Apocalypse Supermarket: My Four Overpowered Husbands Wontstop Hoarding

Chapter 8 Done babysitting

Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Done babysitting

As Luna sat in a well-spacious room that had everything she needed, she leaned back comfortably on the chair. Her food was already on its way alongside the other things she had requested for the night. So for now, all she wanted was to enjoy the sweet bubble bath she loved so much before settling down to sleep.

But before that, there was something much more important to do.

A little calculation.

She stretched lazily before focusing on the task ahead.

"So... what’s the first thing I need to get?"

Immediately after her command, a huge transparent panel materialized before her, listing every essential item she would need.

"Hmm... so apparently I have to get all these. While the others I can simply request with my system."

The list was divided into different categories. Most ordinary supplies could easily be purchased through her system without attracting attention, but the exclusive items were another matter entirely.

Things like guns, ammunition, top-tier medical kits, hydraulic equipment and other specialized tools were not something an ordinary person could casually buy. Purchasing everything at once would only raise suspicion.

Everything she bought had to look normal.

More like a wealthy young woman preparing her dream home rather than someone preparing for the apocalypse.

To avoid attracting unnecessary attention, Luna planned on splitting every delivery into different shipments arriving at different hours from different companies. No one would think twice if several trucks delivered ordinary building materials over the course of a few weeks.

Living on an island would do her good.

High up on a mountain where waves, tsunamis and other dangerous natural disasters wouldn’t easily reach her.

Far away from humans.

Far away from the coming chaos.

"Okay... first, I need grains and staples of different varieties."

She wasn’t planning on eating the same food every single day.

Variety mattered.

Consuming the same thing continuously would eventually make anyone sick of it. Even if it didn’t kill someone physically, it could slowly break them mentally.

Monotony was another silent killer during the apocalypse.

Luna paused.

Food could wait.

There were more difficult things to obtain first.

The foodstuffs could always be purchased later since markets would still be operating for now.

Instead, she decided to prioritize the expensive equipment needed to fortify her future home.

The system automatically displayed a calculator beside the shopping list, helping her estimate every expense.

"I’ll need bullet-resistant windows..."

Her finger moved down the list.

"Steel security doors for the front entrance... the backyard... the basement... and every possible entrance."

Nothing could be left vulnerable.

At least no one would be getting inside unless she personally opened the door.

Her eyes continued scanning the list.

Everything had to be high quality.

Price wasn’t important.

Fortunately, the system displayed the original market value of every item, making sure no one could cheat her.

"Next..."

She nodded thoughtfully.

"Concrete walls... around three hundred meters."

That was extremely important.

She remembered those mutated beasts far too well.

Their claws were sharp enough to slice through gravel.

Their teeth were even worse.

Weak walls wouldn’t survive a single attack.

If she wanted to live, her house had to become a fortress.

"Okay... we’re making progress."

She smiled faintly.

Every item she purchased was automatically marked by her system.

Thankfully, she already knew someone who specialized in handling these kinds of construction requests. She had contacted them beforehand, so all she needed to do was send the complete list.

Everything else would be handled.

The only things she intended to buy personally were the food supplies.

Large-scale house reinforcement had to be outsourced.

"Electric fencing..."

She tapped the purchase button.

"Perfect."

That would stop external threats as well.

It was always better to be overly careful than regret it later.

In her previous life, she had watched countless survivors believe they were completely safe simply because they lived inside luxurious apartments and tall buildings.

They were wrong.

Some creatures climbed walls.

Others slipped through broken gates.

Then there were humans.

Eventually, zombies stopped becoming the biggest problem.

People became worse.

Desperate survivors invaded homes, stole supplies, murdered innocent families and left nothing behind.

Luna had seen it all.

Those memories alone were enough reason to prepare.

"Next... solar power systems."

She quickly typed the quantity.

"Sixty solar panels... enough batteries... and inverters."

If humanity truly collapsed, the communication networks would disappear first.

After that...

The national power grid.

Darkness would consume every city.

She had no intention of sitting helplessly inside a powerless house waiting to die.

Another click.

The order entered her online cart.

"Next."

This part was strangely enjoyable.

As she continued shopping, she absent-mindedly munched on the popcorn she had bought from a nearby vendor.

The moment it touched her tongue, she frowned.

Too sweet.

The flavor wasn’t right.

"I’m definitely going to have to learn how to make my own popcorn because this is absolutely horrendous."

Even so...

She continued eating it.

It was still her money.

There was no point wasting perfectly edible food.

Back in her previous life, Luna had been an unbelievably spoiled young woman.

Money came easily.

She spent it carelessly without thinking twice.

But this life was different.

There were too many things demanding her attention.

Too many preparations to make.

Every coin mattered now.

"Now..."

Her eyes suddenly widened.

"Water."

She immediately opened another section.

"I’ll need an underground water tank."

Her fingers danced across the screen.

"Capacity... one hundred thousand liters."

Water.

One day it would become far more valuable than gold.

People would kill each other over a single bottle.

Rivers would become contaminated.

Lakes would dry up.

The oceans themselves would become death traps, hiding terrifying creatures beneath their waters.

Any clean water left would become priceless.

Preparing now was far better than regretting everything later.

Nothing was excessive.

Nobody knew how long the nightmare would last.

Depending on the government...

That was simply another way of committing suicide.

They had always been too slow.

Too stubborn.

Too blind to understand that not every disaster was man-made.

Not every crisis could simply be controlled.

In her previous life, Luna had waited.

She had believed rescue teams would eventually arrive.

She wasn’t the only one.

Thousands of survivors waited alongside her.

Nobody came.

Every single one of them was butchered.

And what did the government do?

Absolutely nothing.

"Now..."

She scrolled further.

"A borehole."

That was another necessity.

She immediately allocated money for the drilling project.

"Also..."

Her finger tapped another option.

"One diesel generator."

Large capacity.

Enough to power the entire house whenever the solar system couldn’t.

She nodded in satisfaction.

"One hundred KVA should be enough."

Her shopping list kept growing.

"Also..."

She thought for a moment.

"A hidden panic room."

That one couldn’t be ignored.

It would be reinforced with thick steel walls.

Filled with emergency medical supplies.

Food storage.

Clean drinking water.

Communication equipment.

If disaster somehow breached every other layer of protection, she would still have one final place to hide.

Finally...

The last few items.

"CCTV cameras."

She selected the quantity.

"Thirty-two cameras."

Enough to cover every blind spot around the property.

"Steel gates..."

Another click.

"...with motion sensors."

Perfect.

Anyone approaching her home would be detected long before reaching the walls.

Luna leaned back with a satisfied sigh as she looked over the massive shopping cart displayed before her.

"Now..."

A smile slowly spread across her face.

"House reinforcement..."

She nodded proudly.

"Done and dusted."

Knock!

Knock!

A sudden knock interrupted her thoughts.

Frowning, she closed the holographic screen before walking toward the door.

The moment she opened it, she saw Bonnie standing there with a strange young man she had never met before.

Her eyebrows immediately knitted together.

"Bonnie..."

Her voice carried obvious irritation.

"What exactly is your problem?"

She folded her arms.

"Aren’t you supposed to be asleep by now?"

Without waiting for Bonnie to explain herself, Luna spoke again.

"I have work to do tomorrow."

"I know you’re probably here to give me advice or convince me of something."

"But I don’t need it."

"So both of you can leave."

"I need sleep."

"I have to prepare for the end of the world in peace."

She wasn’t about to let anyone distract her from stockpiling.

Not anymore.

Without another word...

Bang!

She slammed the door shut.

Bonnie and the young man—Chris—stood frozen outside, completely stunned by what had just happened.

Luna didn’t care.

Friendship wasn’t going to save her when the apocalypse arrived.

Kindness wouldn’t stop monsters from ripping people apart.

Trust wouldn’t fill an empty stomach.

If anyone wanted to call her heartless...

So be it.

She had already died once because she trusted people.

She refused to make that mistake again.

The food she had ordered earlier was immediately canceled.

There was no longer any reason to stay awake.

Stretching lazily, Luna climbed onto the soft, plump bed and buried herself beneath the warm blankets.

Tomorrow morning...

The preparations would continue.

As for Bonnie and Chris...

They could think whatever they wanted.

Babysitting anyone was no longer on her list.
