Apocalypse Supermarket: My Four Overpowered Husbands Wontstop Hoarding

Chapter 16 Clearing traitors!!

Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Clearing traitors!!

The vehicle rolled steadily through the floodwaters while Luna kept a sharp eye on the surroundings, making sure the coast was clear. At first glance, everything appeared peaceful, but she knew better than to trust silence.

That was exactly how those creatures hunted.

For some reason, these monsters weren’t behaving like ordinary beasts anymore. At the beginning of the apocalypse they had been mindless, attacking anything that moved without strategy. Now... they had changed.

They were adapting.

Starting from the moment they followed her vehicle, positioning themselves perfectly to intercept Kai, everything they did showed signs of intelligence. It was terrifying.

Kai continued struggling against the tape covering his mouth, trying to say something, but only muffled noises escaped him.

Luna merely grinned.

Good.

At least he couldn’t complain for another few minutes.

Soon the outline of the island came into view. As they approached, Luna noticed something else.

The water had become much darker than before.

It wasn’t the normal dark blue of deep water. It looked black... almost alive. From where she sat inside the amphibious vehicle, the shadows beneath the surface looked enormous, as if something unbelievably huge was gliding underneath them.

Whatever lived down there...

She had absolutely no interest in finding out.

The vehicle stopped at the base of the mountain where her mansion stood.

Without hesitation, Luna flipped another switch.

Mechanical gears shifted underneath them.

The tires folded inward before transforming into claw-like limbs that gripped the rocky surface. Slowly, the amphibious vehicle began climbing the steep cliff like a giant reptile scaling a wall.

Several minutes later, it reached the top and rolled onto the front porch of Luna’s mansion.

"I’m finally back."

She stretched both arms above her head before stepping outside.

"I seriously need a bath... some food... and a very long sleep."

Behind her, frantic muffled noises suddenly reminded her of something.

"Oh."

Kai.

His mouth was still sealed shut.

Luna casually peeled the tape off.

The moment it came loose, Kai bent over and immediately threw up all over the porch.

"Ugh... that was one horrible trip," he groaned between breaths. "Couldn’t you have at least let me breathe? And where did you even get a vehicle like this? I’ve never seen anything like it."

Luna was about to answer when something immediately felt wrong.

The mansion was...

Silent.

Far too silent.

Normally she lived here with only her maid, so the place was naturally quiet.

But this wasn’t ordinary silence.

Something felt... off.

Her instincts screamed at her.

"Something is amiss."

Without another word she drew her pistol and slowly entered the mansion.

Each step echoed through the luxurious hallway.

Almost immediately she noticed someone sitting comfortably inside the living room.

A woman lounged elegantly across one of the expensive couches, her legs resting on the glass table as though she owned the place.

Nicole.

The instant Nicole noticed Luna, her entire body stiffened.

She jumped to her feet so quickly she nearly tripped.

"I-I’m so sorry, Miss! I was just stretching my body!"

She hurriedly tried hiding everything on the table.

Unfortunately...

Luna had already seen it.

Four opened cans of juice.

Several plates filled with roasted beef.

Half-eaten snacks.

More importantly...

There were extra chairs pulled around the table.

She wasn’t alone.

As if confirming Luna’s thoughts, three familiar figures walked out from deeper inside the mansion.

Jackson.

Miles.

Jessica.

"We should’ve killed that bitch when we had the chance," Jackson sneered loudly. "I still want my revenge."

Jessica laughed confidently.

"Don’t worry. With the way this world has become, she’s probably already dead."

She turned casually—

Only for her smile to freeze.

Standing at the entrance...

Luna was staring directly at them.

Beside her stood an unbelievably handsome young man with long silver hair.

Silver hair like Kai’s shouldn’t have existed naturally.

But after humanity awakened...

Many people’s appearances had changed alongside their abilities.

Hair...

Eyes...

Even parts of their physiques.

Jessica’s confident smile disappeared instantly.

Luna’s lips curled upward.

"You wanted me dead?"

Her voice was frighteningly calm.

"I’m standing right here."

She slowly spread her arms.

"Come on then."

"Kill me."

Silence swallowed the room.

Luna shifted her attention toward Nicole.

"And you."

Nicole immediately began trembling.

"I locked people up for a reason known only to me."

She took another slow step forward.

"And yet you released them."

Nicole’s knees weakened.

"Do you even realize how many rules you’ve broken?"

The maid could only shake her head while tears filled her eyes.

"Pathetic."

Luna sighed.

"I hate useless people."

Her gaze turned colder.

"And unfortunately... you’ve become one of them."

Nicole collapsed onto her knees.

"Please... Miss... forgive me..."

Luna stared at her expressionlessly.

She already knew this would happen.

People always begged after betraying you.

Protect them.

Feed them.

Shelter them.

Care for them.

In the end...

They would still stab you in the back the moment an opportunity appeared.

Generosity was nothing more than another way to die during the apocalypse.

Luna had learned that lesson long ago.

She pointed toward the cliff overlooking the endless floodwaters.

"Go."

Nicole looked up blankly.

"Stand at the edge."

"...And enjoy the beautiful view."

Kai’s eyes widened.

"What exactly are you trying to do?"

Luna smiled wider.

"Watch carefully."

"If you’re going to stay with me, stop acting clueless and start using your brain."

She folded her arms.

"This is the apocalypse."

"If you can’t survive..."

"Someone else will steal everything you’ve worked for and survive in your place."

Kai swallowed nervously.

Nicole slowly walked toward the cliff, crying the entire time.

"I can’t..."

"I don’t want to die..."

Surprisingly...

Jackson, Jessica and Miles never moved.

They simply watched.

Luna found that amusing.

Did they really think she wouldn’t pull the trigger?

Or...

Did they have another plan?

Almost immediately Jackson reached behind his back and pulled out a rifle.

Luna recognized it instantly.

It belonged to her.

He had raided her storage.

How disrespectful.

"You really don’t want to do that," she warned calmly.

"You really don’t."

Jackson ignored her completely.

The moment he pulled the trigger...

Nothing happened.

The rifle froze in his hands.

He frowned.

"What the hell?"

Kai couldn’t help grinning.

"I think it’s time for you to leave the nice lady’s house."

Luna nearly laughed.

Nice lady?

That was certainly a new one.

Jackson looked equally confused.

"Nice?"

He almost burst into laughter.

"She’s a monster."

Jessica nodded immediately.

"Exactly."

Luna sighed.

She was already tired of listening.

Fortunately...

Before leaving to rescue Kai earlier, she had packed several throwing knives inside her backpack.

Fast.

Silent.

Deadly.

Jessica raised another gun.

Before her finger could reach the trigger—

A silver dagger shot across the room.

Slash!

Her hand split open.

Jessica screamed.

Before the sound could fully leave her mouth—

Another knife flew forward.

Thud.

The blade buried itself deep into the center of her forehead.

Her eyes widened.

Then...

Like a chopped tree...

She collapsed onto the floor.

Dead.

Jackson finally broke free from his frozen shock.

He charged at Luna.

The two immediately engaged in brutal hand-to-hand combat.

Punches.

Kicks.

Elbows.

Neither side held back.

Luna ducked beneath his swing before driving a devastating kick into his ribs.

The impact twisted his body violently and sent him rolling across the floor.

She glanced around.

"Where’s your ice prison?"

"Why was he released?"

No answer came.

Because Kai was no longer beside her.

Instead...

He was sitting comfortably on the couch.

A bowl of French fries rested on his lap while he munched happily, completely absorbed in the enormous plasma television hanging on the wall.

Crunch.

Crunch.

Crunch.

Luna almost rolled her eyes.

Meanwhile the fight continued.

Jackson lunged again.

Luna caught his arm, twisted it behind his back, then slammed her knee into his stomach before kicking him toward the edge of the room.

Nicole screamed.

Jackson barely managed to stop himself before falling over the cliff.

"It has been nice knowing you both," Luna said casually.

Nicole and Jackson immediately began begging.

Only Miles remained standing exactly where he was.

He didn’t interfere.

He didn’t plead.

He simply watched.

Before either Nicole or Jackson could react...

Luna pressed a hidden button on the wall.

Click.

The section of flooring beneath them suddenly split apart.

Both of them screamed as the trapdoor opened beneath their feet.

They plunged straight toward the dark floodwaters below.

Neither noticed the gigantic shadow waiting underneath.

An enormous mouth opened beneath them like a massive gate.

Rows upon rows of horrifying teeth stretched endlessly into darkness.

Then...

Snap.

The jaws closed.

Crunch.

Bones shattered.

Limbs snapped.

Blood spread across the water until everything became silent once again.

Luna didn’t even bother looking twice.

Instead she turned toward Miles.

"Congratulations."

"You’re officially hired as my worker."

Before she could continue...

Miles interrupted.

"I won’t."

Luna simply shrugged.

She wasn’t interested in arguing.

He would change his mind eventually.

Or die.

Those were his only choices.

Ignoring him completely, she walked over to the couch where Kai remained glued to the television.

He didn’t even look away.

"I’m watching a romance movie," he said while grabbing another handful of fries.

"Want to join?"

Luna made a disgusted face.

She hated romance with every fiber of her being.

Without asking, she grabbed the remaining fries beside him and started eating.

"Tomorrow," she said between bites, "we’re going food scavenging."

"And after that..."

"We’re recruiting my second partner."

Her eyes shifted toward Kai.

"I hope you’ll actually train instead of sitting around all day."

"If you can’t be useful..."

"I’ll personally throw you back into the ocean."

She smiled sweetly.

"And trust me..."

"You really don’t want to meet those things living underneath the water."

Kai gulped.

The image of those enormous jaws instantly flashed through his mind.

He nodded so fast his neck almost snapped.

Good.

Threat delivered.

Mission accomplished.
