Chapter 59: A Failed Provocation
Chapter 59: A Failed Provocation
"W-What do you mean!? Didn’t I already give you my points?" Fey asked nervously, taking a step back.
Ken was also scared and quickly took a few steps back.
Seeing their frightened expressions, Raven chuckled.
"Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not planning to kill either of you."
He waved his hand before glancing at Tristan, Mona, and Troy.
"I said earlier that I wouldn’t help the three of you because you refused to pay your points. Unfortunately..."
He sighed.
"I had no choice but to kill all the monsters because those two couldn’t leave unless they killed the hall boss."
He pointed at Ken and Fey.
Hearing that, the two let out a long sigh of relief. They thought Raven was going to break his promise, but thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
Tristan, Mona, and Troy’s faces darkened.
At first, they’d been happy that Raven had killed all those spirit monsters, since it had allowed them to survive as well.
But Raven turned out to be far more cunning than they’d expected.
"If I don’t want to... then what?"
Tristan snorted coldly as he spun his greatsword.
"Just because you can defeat those spirit monsters doesn’t mean I’m afraid of you. They’re immune to magic and physical attacks, but you aren’t!"
Troy and Mona raised their weapons and aimed them at Raven.
Reyna and Claire didn’t just stand by either.
They raised their weapons as well, ready to strike if the other three attacked Raven.
Raven didn’t show the slightest change in expression. He glanced at Ken and Fey before saying casually, "You two can go ahead. I won’t break my promise."
Ken and Fey didn’t move.
Tristan’s words had just reminded them of something they’d almost forgotten—Raven was different from those spirit monsters.
He could still be hurt by both physical and magical attacks.
"Fey, Ken, don’t leave!" Tristan shouted coldly. "He stole your points! Are you really just going to walk away like that!?"
"That’s right!" Mona chimed in. "You’ll leave without any points, which could hurt your standing later! We don’t even know if teams without points will be penalized! Think carefully!"
Faced with their pleas, Fey and Ken began to hesitate. Their breaths grew shaky as they exchanged glances.
"Those two are total jerks," Reyna muttered angrily.
Raven had already helped them both, yet they were still hesitating.
Meanwhile, Raven didn’t move an inch. He simply watched in silence, waiting to see what they would decide.
Would they join Tristan and his group... or not?
With every passing second, the tension in the air grew thicker.
Suddenly...
"Ken, don’t be stupid!"
Ken’s teammate slapped him on the shoulder, his face pale.
"That person can kill all the spirit monsters and even the boss of this hall so easily. Do you really think he doesn’t have a way to slaughter all of us?"
His words snapped Ken out of his greed.
His friend was right—he couldn’t afford to take that risk.
"Ken! Don’t let him sway you, you jerk! Hurry up and join us!" Tristan snapped.
Ken turned toward him and met his furious gaze.
Memories of their time hunting together came flooding back.
Back then, Tristan was always the one who came out on top, while he and his group were left with nothing but the scraps.
He’d been holding onto his hatred for Tristan for a long time, so there was no way he was going to throw his life away just by joining him.
"I refuse!"
His answer struck Tristan, Mona, and Troy like a bolt of lightning.
"W-What did you say!? You refuse!?" Tristan roared.
Ken snorted coldly and pulled his friend away.
"I won’t join you guys. As for our zero points, I’m not worried. There are still a few days left to hunt. At least we won’t be eliminated since we’re ranked above two hundred."
After saying that, he turned toward Raven and clasped his hands together.
"Thank you for helping me. May I know your name?"
Raven smiled, satisfied with his decision.
He was about to say something when a red panel suddenly appeared in front of him.
[DANGER DETECTED! ALL PLAYERS ARE PLANNING TO KILL YOU AND YOUR GROUP! PLEASE BE CAREFUL!]
Raven was stunned.
"The players want to hunt me down?"
The next moment, he remembered Claire’s story and finally understood what was going on.
"So that’s how it is... interesting," he laughed inwardly.
He was curious to see how those people would hunt him down. It was something to look forward to.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he turned back toward Ken and replied casually, "My name is Ryoshi."
"Ryoshi?"
Ken was surprised. He remembered that there was no group named Ryoshi on the top 50 leaderboard.
But he didn’t think much of it and bowed his head.
"Thank you, Ryoshi. I’ll remember your kindness."
Without saying another word, he walked away and left the hall.
Raven had no intention of chasing after him or secretly killing him.
After all, he’d made a promise. No matter how cunning he was, he wouldn’t stoop to such a despicable act.
"What about you? Are you still going to insist on fighting me alongside those three fools?"
Raven glanced at Fey, then shifted his gaze to Tristan, Mona, and Troy.
Hearing his taunt, Tristan was furious. The veins on his forehead bulged, and his face turned as red as a bull’s.
Fey let out a long sigh and shook her head.
"I won’t join you."
"Fey!" Tristan shouted angrily. "Are you stupid!? He’s already exhausted from using that mental attack on all those monsters! Come join us!"
Fey didn’t react to his provocation.
She simply gave him a cold glance.
"There’s no need to try so hard to persuade me. From the very beginning, our alliance was a mistake. If only I hadn’t accepted your invitation, at least my friends would still be alive."
"Y-You..."
Tristan gasped.
"Are you blaming me for everything!? I was just doing my best to make sure every team got points!"
Fey ignored him. She clasped her hands toward Raven before turning around and walking away.
The hall instantly fell silent. Only Raven, Claire, and Reyna remained. Across from them stood Tristan, Mona, and Troy.
Raven rubbed the back of his neck and said casually, "So, how do you guys want to die? Gently or painfully? Tell me. I’m in a good mood right now."
"Arrogant!"
Tristan raised his greatsword and pointed its tip at Raven.
"Like I said before, I’m definitely going to defeat you! You’ve drained your mental strength, haven’t you? Get ready!"
He raised his left hand and shouted, "Mona, Troy, attack from both sides while I confront him head-on!"
Strangely, there was no response from either of his companions.
When he turned to look at them, his confident expression instantly crumbled.
His heart began pounding violently, and his breathing grew ragged.
Troy and Mona were dead. Their heads had been severed from their bodies.
And the culprit was a two-meter-tall black monster, gripping a katana with both hands.
"Hahaha!"
A chilling laugh came from in front of him.
"I didn’t hear you just now."
Raven scratched his ear, his smile as terrifying as that of a laughing demon.
"You said you wanted to defeat me? All right. Come on, attack me..."
