Chapter 1193: Three Heroes Battle Goodwin

Kira continued his act, while Yusei and the others remained skeptical. With the fate of the world at stake, nobody dared hold back; they resolved to give everything they had against Goodwin's "unexpected betrayal."

And aside from these duelists, far away, another being was also watching Goodwin's performance.

In the place of the old perpetual motion machine, the portal to another dimension was resonating, starting to loosen. Beyond that door lay the master of the Earthbound Immortal, the huge monster resembling a living pile of sludge—or the so-called Lord of the Netherworld.

Of course, being called the Lord of the Netherworld didn't mean it literally ruled the afterlife; it was just a dominant monster there. If it really governed the realm, then even the Pharaoh would have to obey!

This Netherworld Lord was excited. All its dark signers had been defeated—it had no more pieces left. It seemed like the 5,000-year-long war was lost yet again, and it would have to wait another 5,000 years.

But now, unexpectedly, the barriers between worlds softened; the ritual was underway, and the old engine was stirring—a new chance for it to descend!

And so, it witnessed the very man who once united the Signers against it—now, "Goodwin" had defected to the darkness.

The Netherworld Lord rejoiced.

I knew you Goodwin brothers were reliable! Now, finish off those Signers and bring me into this world!

Jack Atlas: "Vice Dragon's effect: when Special Summoned by its own ability, its attack is halved!"

[Vice Dragon, ATK 2000 → ATK 1000]

"Now I Normal Summon 'Dark Resonator'!"

[Dark Resonator, ATK 1300]

Jack's favorite Resonator—practically his personal emblem. That combo—Resonator plus Vice Dragon—was one of his key Synchro combinations.

"Level 3—Tuner monster 'Dark Resonator'!

Level 5—Vice Dragon!

Synchro Summon!"

[3+5=8]

"The king's heartbeat now resounds! Witness the thunderous power! Synchro Summon!"

A red pillar of light pierced the dome. Synchro patterns melted in the air, stars reformed through the turbo-charged light.

Lava-like energy steamed the air, as a giant dragon's talons ripped open a dimensional rift, causing the altar's structure to vibrate. The dark red Dragon burst free in a storm of fire, sending stone slabs flying as molten rocks rained down.

Red Dragon Archfiend, summoned!

[Red Dragon Archfiend, ATK 3000]

So quick to bring out your ace, eh, Jack Atlas, the Dragon Marked? You seem even more pumped than when facing Goodwin in the original—is it anger at my 'betrayal'? Good. Maybe you'll grow stronger this way.

Keep going. I'm rooting for you guys.

Crow: "Jack's Red Dragon Archfiend matches Uria's attack now… Damn, if I'd attacked Uria earlier, Armor Master could have made Uria's attack drop to zero."

Under current team rules, teammates' monsters can block attacks for each other, but you can't command or activate teammates' monsters' effects.

Jack: "I don't need your help! I will take down Goodwin on my own!

I activate the Spell Card, 'Card Rotator'!

I discard a card, and all monsters on the opponent's field that have attacked switch their battle positions!"

Jack discarded a card to the graveyard.

"All monsters on Goodwin's field must switch from Attack to Defense Position!"

[Chaos Core, ATK 0 → DEF 0]

[Uria, ATK 3000 → DEF 3000]

"And the card I discarded is 'Card of Compensation.' When this Spell Card goes to the graveyard, I draw two cards."

Leo: "Huh? Even switching to Defense, Uria's DEF is still 3000. Even Red Dragon Archfiend can't—"

Akiza: "It's Red Dragon Archfiend's effect."

"Huh?"

Jack: "Battle! Red Dragon Archfiend attacks 'Uria, Lord of Searing Flames'!

Absolute Power Force!"

Red Dragon Archfiend roared, flames surging all over its body, pouring into its right claw. With a burning arc, the claw shot at Uria.

But, unsurprisingly, Uria's tail swept aside Red Dragon's claw, scattering the raging flames.

"Now, Red Dragon Archfiend's effect activates!

After damage calculation when it attacks a defense monster, destroy all defense position monsters your opponent controls!"

Jack's effect—total annihilation of defense.

He sought power, supreme power, a direct clash of strongest attacks. No tolerance for the weak or defensive tactics.

The Sacred Beasts, even with their anime effects, weren't immune to monster effects. Uria and Chaos Core were swallowed up by Red Dragon Archfiend's flames.

Crow: "Nice! Not only did he deal with that tough Sacred Beast, but he took down the whole defense line. That's Jack for you!"

Jack: "Hmph! For Jack Atlas, that's only natural!"

He set two cards face-down.

"I set two cards and end my turn!"

Kira: "Just like that, he took down the Sacred Beast after all. Not bad, Former King."

He emphasized "Former King" and Jack flared up.

Jack: "What the hell do you mean by that!?"

Kira: "Nothing—just stating a fact."

Then he revealed a card.

"Uria's graveyard effect—if I discard a Trap Card, I can Special Summon Uria from the graveyard!"

Everyone: "Nani!?"

Leo: "What the heck! We just barely beat Uria, and it can already resurrect? That's cheating!"

Yusei: "This is a Sacred Beast—unbeatable in attack or defense…"

Crow: "No monster is unbeatable!

I'll prove it now!

From my hand, I discard 'D.D. Crow'—its effect activates!

By discarding this card, I can banish a card from your graveyard—even during your turn!"

Crow pointed at Kira's field.

"Banish 'Uria, Lord of Searing Flames' from the graveyard!"
