Chapter 1166: Welcoming The Church
Chapter 1166: Chapter 1166: Welcoming The Church
"I suppose he was good. My bad."
There was silence after that. Silence loud enough that it caused everyone’s ears to ring and whistle. Even Louis, who had already had an idea of what Riley was about to do, covered his face in frustration.
Well, at the very least, he reacted. The others were completely frozen in place. Even the lady of the house, who was right beside the emissary of the Church of Fate and was holding his hand, was like a statue.
Her eyes didn’t even blink or move even when some of the emissary’s blood splashed onto her face when Riley caved his chest in. As for the young lady Janine, if it wasn’t for Louis gently turning her face away, she would still be staring at the emissary’s corpse.
As for the healers who were in the midst of healing the emissary, their hands were now just hovering in the air.
This was the first time. This was the first time the person they were healing was killed right in front of them so nonchalantly. It was ridiculous and still hasn’t fully registered in their minds. The scene, however, was slowly registering for one of them.
And it was registering violently.
"Oh... oh, no." Gilbert clasped his hair as he finally realized what had happened, "Heal him! Heal him, quick!"
Gilbert grabbed the healers by their shoulders, shaking and snapping them from their shock as he screamed. The healers instinctively cast their spells at the emissary’s corpse, but realized moments later that what they were doing was useless and stopped.
"He’s... dead, m’lord." The healers slowly backed away, their expressions filled with dread.
"No..." And Gilbert’s heavy breath only added to it.
As for the one who caused all of this, well, he was just casually wiping his hand on the emissary’s robes. Not even asking at all why everyone was reacting the way they were reacting.
"You... need to go, Hero!" Gilbert pointed at Riley, "No. Wait... the church would come. What do we... what do we do!? I am sure they’re already on their way here! This... we’re going to be... we’re going to be wiped out by the Church!"
"Master Gilbert, relax." Louis sighed as he approached Gilbert while looking at Janine and the other people present, "You’re scaring your people."
"They should be scared!" Gilbert’s voice became even louder, "You do not know the wrath of the Church, boy. A few years ago, a family even more prominent than ours offended an emissary of the Church of Fate. They didn’t even hurt him, only offended him—do you know what the Church did? They deemed all the people of the city a heretic and then sealed their walls and their gates. Even until now, no one could get in and out of it—they are all probably dead. I’ve heard stories that you could hear them wailing from outside the walls, and some say they’ve been eating each other. Now... Tell me, boy. What fate do you think awaits a city who killed an emissary!? What—"
"Nothing."
Before Gilbert could finish his rant, he was cut off by Riley who was now casually looking at the paintings on the wall like he didn’t cause any of the chaos.
"I am still alive. Am I not, Master Gilbert?" Riley said, "The Fate of this world is absolute—and one who kills good men, especially an emissary of the very Church that worshipped it, should not be alive after doing so."
"That..." Gilbert’s eyes narrowed as he started thinking of Riley’s words. He looked at the dead emissary for a few seconds before turning his focus back to Riley and saying, "That’s true. Then, does that mean that this man was not an emissary at all? Wait, perhaps he’s another assassin in disguise!? Another one got inside my estate!? I... I am truly ashamed, Hero!"
"Hmm." The man was absolutely not an assassin. If it wasn’t for Riley being completely immortal, then the system of this world would have already turned him into nothing. But of course, one of the best lessons he had learned from Bernard was to never correct the enemy when they are wrong.
Gilbert wasn’t an enemy, of course. But the same concept applies here.
And with Gilbert saying that, his wife who was previously completely frozen also started moving. And the first thing she did was snarl in disgust as she threw the emissary’s hand away.
"To think that I held the hand of a killer!" The lady of the house stood up and quickly walked away, "I must wash my hands!"
"Men! Throw the assassin’s corpse along with the first one and investigate whether they have any similarities in their bodies!" Gilbert ordered.
The soldiers dragged the corpse of the emissary away, and everyone left shortly after that—leaving only Riley and Louis within the previous chaos.
"I feel like I shouldn’t tell you what’s going to happen next." Louis sighed as he stood beside Riley, "But I will, because these people don’t deserve to be caught up. The Church will come here, and they will come for you."
"Interesting."
"I know," Louis let out a very long and deep sigh, "I thought it would take a week for you to catch everyone’s attention, but you just got here and you already have the attention of the Church of Fate—let me tell you this now, Riley... their pope is is stronger than Mom...than Megawoman."
"Very interesting," Riley turned to look at Louis, "Then I suppose I should probably welcome them—where do you think they will be coming from?"
"They are probably already here," Louis muttered. And almost as if in cue to his words, a loud horn reverberated from the sky. The siren rippled across the entire city.
"Hmm." Riley shrugged before turning around and walking out of the hole that the emissary made. He looked up at the sky, only to see an aurora of red completely covering it.
In truth, Riley had already expected the inhabitants of this world to be strong—after all, this is the world where Monkeh came from, and her strength was sealed when he fought her.
What Riley did not expect, however, was that he was about to have fun in this world as he watched as several figures slowly descended from the sky.
"Well then..." Riley’s feet slowly lifted from the ground,
"...I suppose I should confess my sins."
