Chapter 1923: What Rules?
Chapter 1923: What Rules?
Villain Ch 1923. What Rules?
Vivian hummed low in her throat. “What rules?”
Alice added, deadpan, “We had rules?”
Zoe smirked. “You think I follow rules?”
Shea was already pouring more wine into Allen’s glass like this was all just foreplay for chaos. “Let’s just admit he likes being surrounded. Fed. Pampered. Worshipped.”
“Yeah, but he earned it,” Bella said, nudging Allen’s knee with hers under the table. “He keeps our monsters quiet.”
Allen rolled his neck, the weight of all their gazes sinking into his skin. He could feel Azura’s eyes flicking between the others, shy but very much present. That quiet longing in her made his chest twist.
“Maybe I just got lucky,” he murmured.
“No, baby,” Jane said with a wry smile, swirling her glass. “You just survived longer than the others.”
And then—
Ping.
A sharp, distinct tone broke through the hum of low laughter and the sound of crackling fire.
Everyone froze.
Jane’s hand twitched.
Her smile vanished like a flame doused in cold water. Just gone. In a blink.
She sat up straighter—no longer lounging, no longer teasing. She grabbed her phone with a speed that made Allen blink. Her fingers flew. Eyes locked to the screen.
The whole room shifted.
Energy changed. Stilled.
Even Zoe, who never stopped smirking, stopped.
Allen narrowed his eyes. He knew Jane well enough by now. That was the look she wore before she hexed a man into vomiting blood in Hell’s Gate. That was the face she wore when something real hit.
“Uh… everything okay?” Bella asked carefully.
Vivian leaned in across the table. “I wonder if it’s from work.”
Shea snorted. “That’s my question. What kind of work freaks her out?”
No one laughed.
Jane was still staring at the screen, still scrolling, still stiff.
Allen didn’t say anything.
He waited.
When Jane finally looked up, her face was unreadable. A flicker of something behind the cool mask.
“Guys,” she said. “Sophia made a livestream again.”
That hit harder than it should’ve.
Allen felt a low current buzz under his skin.
Alice’s eyes widened. “Wait, you follow her?”
Jane finally grinned, all teeth. “Oh I’m a good detective. I got fake accounts. VPNs. Notifications. I like my enemy updates raw and live.”
Vivian slapped the table. “Yes! Finally! A good drama! Let’s watch her crash and burn!”
Bella giggled. “Quick, cast it to the TV!”
“I bet she’s selling her cry again,” Zoe muttered, already reaching for her wine.
Shea snorted, flipping her hair. “I bet. Probably another ‘I’ve changed’ apology with that fake ass background music.”
“Muted piano, slow zoom, mascara tears,” Alice said. “The classic.”
Larissa already had the remote, switching the screen from ambiance mode to smart TV. “Okay, ladies and slutty gentlemen, let’s tune in to the world’s most tragic influencer.”
Allen didn’t say anything.
Not at first.
But his jaw tensed.
He knew it was stupid to care. He didn’t. Not really. Sophia was old news. History. A closed chapter. But…
But still.
The ghost of that betrayal was a wound that sometimes whispered. And seeing her name, her face, that old performance flicker back into the room?
It was like a bad patch update to an already messy game.
Jane cast the screen, and boom—there it was.
Sophia, live on a sofa that was just a little too clean. Lighting too soft. Eyes too glossy. Hair perfectly undone, like she wanted to cry cute.
The comments were exploding on the side of the stream. Some even gave her gifts.
Vivian fake-gasped, tossing a pillow off her lap like it betrayed her. “Wow. Crying at the two-minute mark. That’s gotta be a new record.”
“She must’ve trained,” Zoe said, sipping her red wine like it was tea from the underworld.
Shea crossed one leg over the other, calm but wicked. “Watch. Ten bucks says she’s gonna bring up the video without saying the word sex.”
The whole living room held its breath for a beat. Then—
“She’s pretending she didn’t upload it herself,” Jane snapped, tapping rapidly on her phone. “I’ve got everything. The metadata, the upload logs.”
Zoe cackled. “You got her words?”
“I’m a psycho with a grudge,” Jane grinned. “And access to VPNs and receipts. Fear me.”
Allen peeked over Jane’s shoulder, eyes squinting at the stream screen. Her fingers were flying, fast, surgical, like she’d trained for this exact moment. Which—knowing her—she probably had. Her entire aura screamed revenge with aesthetic lighting.
He tilted his head and muttered, “thetechoracle? That’s your nickname?”
Jane didn’t even blink. “Yup,” she said with smug pride, popping the ‘p’ at the end.
Shea leaned forward, nearly elbowing Zoe. “Hey, wait. This vorturious guy in chat—he your friend or what? Look at this.” She zoomed in on a comment.
@vorturious: your “truth” keeps changing. first you said they blackmailed you, which means they should’ve leaked the video. but the one who uploaded it… was you. doesn’t that completely contradict your own story?
Sophia’s face on the livestream froze for half a beat. Like the words had physically slapped her. Jane grinned wide and whispered, “Boom. Headshot.”
Allen raised a brow. That was… brutal. Even he flinched a little. “Damn.”
Shea howled, “She’s speechless now. Look! She blinked five times in four seconds. That’s the lie buffering. He has a sharp tongue.”
Bella snorted. “You mean sharp fingers, not tongue. He types, not speaks.”
“Same thing,” Shea shrugged. “Keyboard is mightier than the mouth.”
“Nope,” Jane replied, eyes still fixed to the scrolling chaos. “Never met him. But a lot of people are smart now. They check before they simp. And scamming? Online sob stories? Too many fake donation links and performative breakdowns. People getting tired of crocodile tears.”
Azura leaned over Allen’s shoulder, hesitant but curious. “Is that… her crying again? Like, actually crying?”
Allen didn’t answer right away. His eyes were fixed on the screen too.
Sophia was back on camera now, a perfectly disheveled mess. Mascara streaked, voice cracking just enough to seem vulnerable, shoulders trembling under a silk robe that suspiciously still had the price tag peeking out the sleeve. She sniffled dramatically into a suspiciously dry tissue.
More comments slid across the screen. More haters.
