Chapter 96 - 98: Luan Ting’s Other Side
Chapter 96: Chapter 98: Luan Ting’s Other Side
When Su Luoluo saw the wild raspberries, she couldn’t contain her excitement. She hadn’t seen them in years.
Back in the Post-apocalypse, she had only seen one once, back when she was a child. To this day, she still savored the memory of its taste. She never imagined she would find them blanketing the mountainside here.
She reached out to pick one, but a fair hand darted out and snatched it away, plucking the very berry she had been reaching for.
Su Luoluo looked up and saw a strikingly beautiful female.
Seeing as the other female was so beautiful, Su Luoluo decided not to say anything and simply moved to another raspberry bush to start picking.
Who would have thought that the female would brazenly follow her over and once again snatch the wild raspberry Su Luoluo had her eye on.
Now Su Luoluo was furious. She could have written off the first berry as an accident, but this second one was just relentless. ’If this isn’t on purpose, what is?’
She stopped picking and looked at the other female. "Are you blind? There are so many wild raspberries here, yet you insist on taking mine."
The female wore a red Beast Skin Skirt. Her Phoenix Eyes were slightly upturned, and her pupils were a shining black.
She looked at Su Luoluo with her chin tilted up, her expression arrogant as she sized her up. "The clothes aren’t bad," she said, "pity such a face had to ruin a good outfit."
’That was a straight-up personal attack!’
Ever since she transmigrated, Su Luoluo had endured her fair share of verbal jabs, but this was the first time someone had been so blunt.
Hearing this, she chuckled lightly. She crossed her arms and looked at the female. "Why, thank you. Your clothes, on the other hand, are rather ugly. That red feather skirt makes you look like you’re covered in chicken feathers."
’Insulting people? Anyone can do that.’
The female’s eyes widened at the insult. She glanced down at her own outfit, then lunged forward, her hand outstretched to strike Su Luoluo. "You ugly fatso! With all that blubber on you, what right do you have to talk?"
Su Luoluo saw the sharp nails coming and was just thinking about how to take the female down when a honey-colored hand suddenly reached out and blocked the attack.
A clear, gentle voice sounded beside her ear. "My lady, please show some restraint. It’s getting late, and we must set off for Heavenly God Mountain. It wouldn’t do to be late for the ritual."
"What I do is none of your business—" The female instantly flared up.
She raised her hand, about to summon someone, but stopped when a smiling face appeared before her. He wore white beast skin and stood as tall and straight as a green bamboo shoot.
"And you are...?" The man was so handsome that Yan Shu’s tone softened considerably.
Luan Ting smiled faintly. "I’m her Beastman."
With that, he took Su Luoluo’s hand and led her away.
Yan Shu watched his tall, slender figure retreat into the distance, a dazed look in her narrow Phoenix Eyes.
’For such a handsome Beastman to end up with such an ugly female... what a waste.’
’Someone like him deserves someone like me.’
"Yan Shu, what happened? I saw you raise your hand just now. Why didn’t you call for me?" a tiger-eared Beastman asked as he walked over.
Yan Shu smiled. "It’s nothing, Muse. I just saw another female who’s also on her way to Heavenly God Mountain. Have you finished picking my thorn fruit?"
"Yes, right here. I’ve washed them all for you."
"Have a taste." Muse took a clean one from a large leaf and fed it to Yan Shu, then leaned in for a kiss. Yan Shu turned her head aside, avoiding it.
His expression darkened. "Yan Shu, what’s wrong? It’s my turn to be with you today."
She had originally thought this new Beastman of hers was quite handsome and had wanted to show him off on Heavenly God Mountain.
But now that she had just seen someone better, he suddenly seemed very ordinary. That was why she had little interest when Muse leaned in.
Still, a Beastman had to be placated. She tugged on Muse’s arm and whined, "I was up all night, I’m exhausted. I haven’t even eaten this morning, and you’re already starting with me. Are you trying to work me to death?"
The female before him was radiant, and her whining voice was coquettish. Muse’s flicker of displeasure vanished instantly.
"You’re right, I’m sorry. Here, sit on my back and take your time eating."
With that, he transformed into a tiger.
Yan Shu climbed onto his back, her eyes scanning the area, searching for the handsome Beastman who had just left and that fat female.
But even after they had traveled a good distance, she hadn’t seen a trace of them.
After pulling Su Luoluo away, Luan Ting didn’t say much. He simply wiped the berries he had picked with a leaf and handed them to her.
"Here, eat. We’ll have to make do with this for breakfast. Once we get a little farther, we should be able to find better things to eat."
Like Fu Feng and the others, Su Luoluo wasn’t fond of eating wild fruit for breakfast, but she had no choice under the circumstances. She would have to make do.
Su Luoluo had expected Luan Ting to lecture her for being so aggressive with the other female. She was surprised when he said nothing at all, instead giving her all the wild fruit he had picked.
And most of them were bright red wild raspberries.
’Did he see how much I liked them and pick all these just for me?’
A warm feeling flooded Su Luoluo’s heart.
She picked one up and popped it into her mouth. The bright red juice instantly burst forth, a sweet and tart flavor spreading across her tongue.
The taste was incredible—sweeter and juicier than the last wild raspberry she had eaten in the Post-apocalypse.
’Things that grow in this primitive world are just higher quality.’
’All-natural, no pollution, grown in tune with the seasons. It’s so pure and fresh.’
She nodded and smiled at Luan Ting. "Thank you, Luan Ting. These wild raspberries are delicious."
Hearing this, Luan Ting’s lips curved into a slight smile. "This fruit is much tastier than the ones in the tribe," he said in his clear voice. "It isn’t astringent."
"You’re right! Here, you try the biggest one." Sitting on Luan Ting’s back, Su Luoluo picked out the reddest, largest berry and popped it into his mouth.
Luan Ting, being fed, didn’t object and simply ate it.
Su Luoluo remembered what he had said earlier. "You mentioned there would be good food nearby. Have you been here before?"
Luan Ting shook his head. "No. Only the leader and the Leader’s Wife have ever been to Heavenly God Mountain. But I’ve hunted in places similar to it. If we continue down past these shrubs, we’ll reach a forest of tall trees."
Su Luoluo had been so focused on traveling that she hadn’t paid any attention to the mountain’s terrain.
Looking carefully now, she realized the mountain was quite high. The path undulated, going up and down, which meant the distribution of rain and sunlight was uneven.
That explained why some areas were covered in shrubs while others, a little farther on, could support tall trees.
Soon enough, they reached a forest.
The lush, verdant colors made Su Luoluo’s eyes light up. This was truly a wonderful place.
There was plenty of sunlight and abundant rainfall, and the trees were all growing exceptionally well.
’An environment this good is bound to produce all sorts of delicious things.’
As she sat on Luan Ting’s back, she began to scan her surroundings. Suddenly, her eyes darted to the side—she had spotted something good.
