Chapter 45: What a Massive Screw-Up Scene
Chapter 45: Chapter 45: What a Massive Screw-Up Scene
This was Su Luoluo’s first time making pottery. Although she knew the theory, it was her first time actually doing it, and she was a little nervous.
When the reddish-brown teacup was finally revealed, Su Luoluo let out a huge sigh of relief, her face breaking into a wide, happy smile. "It’s a success!"
She carefully picked up the teacup, blew away the clinging ash, and then examined it closely, inside and out.
To the touch, it wasn’t as smooth as porcelain and felt a bit coarse, but it didn’t have the slightest crack. It was a perfect container.
Su Luoluo was already extremely satisfied with this result.
After making sure the teacup was fine, Su Luoluo proceeded to dig up the other pieces of pottery.
Other than a jar with a slight crack, all the other pieces—the pot, kettle, bowls, and spoons—had been fired perfectly.
Su Luoluo hadn’t expected her first attempt at making pottery to be so successful.
Even though the jar had a few cracks, it was still usable. It would be fine for holding things like eggs or fruit.
The rustling sounds of Su Luoluo handling the pottery woke the three men, who couldn’t help but walk over to see.
The clay containers of all sizes that Su Luoluo had made yesterday were arranged neatly on the ground, each one looking incredibly solid.
Xiao Ye was stunned. He crouched down to examine them. "This is the pottery you were talking about?"
Su Luoluo nodded, saying with a hint of pride, "So? Not bad, right? With this pottery, I can make even more delicious food."
Xiao Ye ran a hand over the pottery and clicked his tongue in silent amazement. ’I can’t believe mud can be made into something so sturdy.’
No wonder Su Luoluo had disdained the stone pots and bowls; these were so much lighter in comparison.
They were not only easier to pick up and carry, but you could also shape them however you liked. You could literally make any kind of container you wanted.
Mo Xuan also marveled at what Su Luoluo had created, finding it hard to believe it was all made from a pile of mud.
Just yesterday, Fu Feng had thought the clay was too dirty. He never imagined that firing it in the flames would transform it so completely.
The three men were lost in their own thoughts, but they all found their affection for Su Luoluo growing even stronger.
’She really is so much smarter than before.’
’From discovering the Salt Well to making pottery, she’s more capable than any other female!’
Su Luoluo, however, was completely oblivious to their thoughts.
After organizing the fired pieces, she handed three bowls to them. "These are the ones I made for you yesterday. Take them! You can eat out of these from now on. No more worrying about your bowls losing their shape!"
They already knew the bowls were ugly from when she’d decorated them yesterday, so they didn’t have high expectations as they took them.
A quick glance confirmed it: the drawings were crooked and, sure enough, very ugly.
’Well, they’re ugly, but it’s better than nothing,’ they thought, resigning themselves to using them.
Just as the men had accepted their fate, they saw Su Luoluo take out a small bowl decorated with a flower. Mo Xuan asked in surprise, "Why does that bowl have a flower on it?"
"Oh, that’s the one I made for myself," Su Luoluo said nonchalantly.
"How come your bowl gets to be so pretty while ours are so ugly!" Mo Xuan complained, clearly displeased.
"You think mine’s pretty? I just drew a flower on it, that’s all."
"If you like it so much, I can draw flowers for all of you next time," Su Luoluo said after a moment’s thought. "A Dragon Sparrow wearing a flower on its head, a Black Panther holding a bouquet, and a Purple Snake with a flower in its mouth. I think that would look quite nice."
The three men looked down at the bowls in their hands. ’On second thought, maybe not.’
’Her description sounds even worse than what we have now.’
With the pottery successfully fired, Su Luoluo had solved one of her biggest problems.
They had been away from the tribe for a night. It was time to head back.
She carefully wrapped the pottery in a beast skin blanket.
On the way back, she once again rode on Mo Xuan’s back.
She hadn’t really considered riding Xiao Ye. The snake scales did chafe a bit, and since she was only wearing briefs underneath, her skin could easily get rubbed raw.
To keep the pottery from breaking on the way back, she cradled the bundle in her arms the entire time.
She had the three of them carry some of the larger pieces in their mouths, as that would be a safer way to transport them.
...
「In the tribe.」
Early in the morning, a group of beastmen were lined up to receive their rations of wild fruit.
Suddenly, a few beastmen rushed up to the leader to report, "This is bad! This is bad! Su Luoluo has run away with three of her beastman partners!"
All at once, everyone in the tribe turned to stare at the newcomers. Su Yang was also taken aback. "What did you say? Su Luoluo ran away?"
Su Nuannuan also found it hard to believe. ’Su Luoluo actually managed to convince her other beastman partners to leave with her?’
"It’s true! I saw it with my own eyes yesterday. Su Luoluo left with Mo Xuan, Fu Feng, and Xiao Ye. They didn’t come back last night, and there’s still no sign of them this morning."
"That’s right, I saw it too," another female chimed in. "Su Luoluo’s hut is empty. It looks like she was gone all night."
To leave the tribe without permission was considered an act of betrayal.
Primitive people had low productivity, so most lived in communal groups.
Leaving one tribe meant you had to join another; surviving alone was not an option.
If that happened, the new tribe would inevitably learn about this tribe’s circumstances and could come to plunder the resources they had worked so hard to find.
Thus, the accusation instantly sent a wave of discussion through the tribe.
Upon hearing this, Lan Ya said bluntly, "Even though Su Luoluo is the daughter I bore, she has committed an act of betrayal. I support capturing her and punishing her severely."
Su Zhao frowned at this but still found it hard to believe. "Impossible! As fat as Su Luoluo is, what tribe would take her? Besides, she’s ugly and lazy. No one can stand her!"
Su Nuannuan, however, was more astute. She looked at Luan Ting and said, "Even if she left with her beastman partners, Luan Ting should have heard something, shouldn’t he? Luoluo wouldn’t just leave him behind, would she? And Nantu, too."
Nantu rarely spent time with the rest of the tribe, leaving only Luan Ting present. All eyes turned to him.
Luan Ting didn’t really believe Su Luoluo would just take the others and leave, even though she hadn’t said anything to him.
’But if she left, why didn’t she tell me?’
’And with the other three, no less.’
He pressed his lips together, about to speak.
Suddenly, a bright, clear voice cut through the air. "Sister, what nasty things are you saying about me now?"
As she spoke, Su Luoluo hopped down from Mo Xuan’s back.
In a flash, she was in front of Luan Ting, rummaging through her Beast Skin Bag. Her eyes lit up when she found his bowl, and she handed it to him.
"Don’t listen to their nonsense. I went to make a bowl for you. See? I made this especially for you. It’s one of a kind."
The words had barely left her mouth when Mo Xuan snorted. "So, what are we? Chopped liver?"
Xiao Ye crossed his arms. "Right. ’One of a kind.’"
Fu Feng’s eyelids fluttered open. "And she says it with a straight face."
Luan Ting heard them and glanced at their hands. Each of the three held a bowl nearly identical to the one he was holding. His gaze then shifted back to Su Luoluo’s face.
Su Luoluo felt an intense gaze lock onto her.
