Chapter 2: Binding the Romantic Brain System
Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Binding the Romantic Brain System
The herb on the table was none other than Motherwort, which soothes and relieves the pain of menstrual cramps for females.
To prove to the other females that her relationship with her Beastman wasn’t bad, the original owner had lied to Luan Ting, claiming she was on her period and couldn’t wash the beast skins because of cramps.
The original owner had done this before. She would tell Luan Ting every time she got her period.
Out of respect for her father, Luan Ting would help her wash the beast skins.
But just now, she had returned to the cave soaking wet. Her clothes were drenched, yet there wasn’t a single trace of blood on her legs. It was obvious she had lied.
That explained the look of disgust in Luan Ting’s eyes earlier.
The plot had progressed to the point where she had thoroughly offended everyone she possibly could.
Su Luoluo let out a deep sigh. ’Looks like the days ahead are going to be tough.’
He was gone, but the chill seeping into her bones remained.
Su Luoluo sneezed, then went into the cave. She found a piece of fur to dry herself off and changed into a clean beast skin.
After she was done, she felt that something was off and wanted to find a mirror.
She looked all around the room before it suddenly hit her. ’This is a primitive era. How could mirrors exist yet?’
Su Luoluo thought of the river she had just thrown herself into. She dusted herself off and walked out of the cave.
The river was quite large, flowing past the cave entrance. Instead of stopping right there, Su Luoluo took a detour, finally stopping at a spot by the riverbank surrounded by lush, green trees.
In the post-apocalypse, she possessed the Water Ability. Besides wanting to see her reflection, she also needed to check if her superpower was still intact.
Knowing full well that the tribe treated the original owner badly, she wasn’t about to expose herself and cause unnecessary trouble. Finding a secluded spot far from where people usually gathered was the best option.
In the post-apocalypse, her Water Ability had reached Level 9. As long as she was near water, she could heal rapidly, as well as perform purification and filter toxins.
She tentatively reached out, and her fingertips immediately connected with the water. Su Luoluo felt a gentle power flow through her.
’The river water in this primitive era is so clear. Back in the post-apocalypse, you’d be lucky if your hand didn’t get corroded the moment you touched the water. There’s no way you could establish a connection in a single second like this.’
In the post-apocalypse, she had relied on this Skill to survive. It was a shame that the water quality had deteriorated so much over time, causing her superpower to corrode as well.
That was exactly why a "battle god" of her generation had been reduced to taking a zombie down with her.
She held her breath and tried to gather the surrounding water, condensing it into a ball before flinging it out.
The resulting water droplet wasn’t large. Its power wasn’t very strong, and its offensive capability was weak.
’From the looks of it, this is only Level 1.’
Su Luoluo sighed. Her Level 9 superpower had been completely eroded away, just like that.
Su Luoluo felt down for a moment but quickly bounced back.
’At least I’m still alive. And being alive is the greatest asset of all.’
’As for my superpower, I have time to train and level it up again.’
After checking her superpower, Su Luoluo began to examine her reflection in the water’s surface.
She hadn’t known what to expect, but one look was enough to give her a shock.
’I’d already prepared myself for not being a looker—the book did say the original owner was ugly, after all—but does she really have to be *this* ugly?!’
Fair skin, a youthful face, a slender figure—she didn’t possess a single one of those traits!
Her only comfort, perhaps, was her height. Su Luoluo visually estimated she was around five-foot-five.
As for everything else... calling her skin "dark" would be an understatement. She was practically a block of charcoal. She had to wait a good while for her reflection to even appear in the crystal-clear water.
Her facial features were flat. Her eyes were almost nonexistent, just two narrow slits. Her nose was even worse, so flat it looked like a piece of clay smooshed onto her face. Her lips were thick and plump, like a sausage.
Her features were ugly enough on their own, but to make matters worse, a purple birthmark on her upper left cheek made her face even harder to look at.
The flesh on her body bulged out. Su Luoluo lifted an arm slightly and saw that it was as thick as a Michelin tire.
If she curled up, she felt like she could probably roll across the ground, being so round and dark.
For Su Luoluo, who had always been particular about her appearance, this was completely unacceptable.
’At least this person wasn’t a total slob; her hair is combed.’ Thinking this, Su Luoluo reached up to touch her hair.
The moment she touched it, her face froze. ’Is this hair glued together?’
It was stiff as a board, and she thought she felt something moving. She tried picking at it.
A tiny, wriggling thing crawled up her fingernail. Su Luoluo quickly flicked it off to get a better look and found several insects on her hand. They looked like lice.
Su Luoluo was instantly horrified. ’What kind of freak was the original owner?!’
’According to standard novel tropes, I should at least get a beauty system, right?!’
"Ding! The host’s inner desires have been detected."
"A system actually showed up! Quick, give me some shampoo and lice removal medicine."
"Apologies, Host. We do not have the items you mentioned."
"You don’t have them? According to the usual transmigration novel tropes, with my face and body, shouldn’t I be bound to some kind of beauty upgrade system?"
"Apologies, Host. This is the Romantic Brain System."
"A romance system is fine, but you have to at least let me get beautiful before I start trying to win anyone over!"
"Apologies, Host. To reiterate, this is the Romantic Brain System."
Su Luoluo realized the system had a one-track mind. It wasn’t getting it. She’d have to spell things out. She sighed and asked, playing along with its script, "Win over what, exactly?"
"As long as the Host successfully turns the system’s designated Beastmen into ’Romantic Brains,’ your superpower and spiritual power will be upgraded."
"Wait, did I hear that right?"
"Are you saying that I, looking like *this*, am supposed to win over the original owner’s five Beastmen?"
’Seriously, System, you have to be kidding me!’
’This body—dark, overweight, and birthmarked—has every debuff imaginable.’
’And you want me to win over those Beastmen? What kind of epic-level difficulty is this?’
Su Luoluo couldn’t help but ask from the depths of her soul, "System, do you really think that’s possible?"
"As long as the Host succeeds, nothing is impossible. The system will grant you rewards at any time."
"Then who are the targets? And what are the rewards?"
"The Romantic Brain targets are the original owner’s five Beastmen: Xiao Ye, Mo Xuan, Fu Feng, Nantu, and Luan Ting. The Host needs to interact with them to raise their ’Romantic Brain Index’ for you."
"’Romantic Brain Index?’ What the heck is that?"
"The Index is divided into six levels: Level 1 Filter Brain, Level 2 Drama Brain, Level 3 Romance Novel Brain, Level 4 Devotion Brain, Level 5 Saint Brain, and Level 6 Self-Torment Brain."
"Each time you advance a level, you will receive generous rewards. After completing all levels, a final grand prize package from the system will be waiting for you."
"Friendly reminder: Failure to complete the mission will result in the system forcibly terminating the Host’s life."
This string of "Brains" left Su Luoluo completely bewildered.
"What are all these ’Brains’ you’re talking about? I don’t understand any of it."
"Apologies, Host. You have not yet triggered the Romantic Brain mechanism, so the details cannot be disclosed at this time."
Su Luoluo pursed her lips. "If you can’t tell me about the six ’Brains,’ you can at least tell me about the rewards. I’m telling you now, if the rewards aren’t any good, I’m not interested."
