Book 2: Chapter 423: Confront and Defend (10)
<Confront and Defend (10)>
Ding!
The crumbling quest window revealed itself again.
[Urgent sub quest : Show the dignity of the hero!!!]
The number of exclamation marks at the end increased from one to three.
‘…….’
Alberu was flustered.
‘What the hell is dignity?’
What the heck was a hero’s dignity?
He was flabbergasted. But he could not just ignore this quest.
‘The Sun God.’
As Cale had expected, Alberu had met with the Sun God.
Of course, the method was completely different from what Cale went through, but he did have a chat with the Sun God.
‘She was decent.’
It was not a bad conversation.
That was because the Sun God didn’t make any suggestions or deals to Alberu.
She just told him how he would change from here on.
‘Saint Jack.’
Nameless 1, the planet with the Roan Kingdom.
Jack was the Saint of the Church of the Sun God there.
‘She said the Holy Maiden to follow him will be a Dark Elf.’
The Church of the Sun God had ostracized Dark Elves, Necromancers, and other races close to dead mana.
That was because of the Sun God, but…
That Sun God, as an olive branch, was telling Alberu that the next Holy Maiden will be a Dark Elf.
‘And-’
She had told Alberu one more thing.
‘The moment you wish to show your quarter Dark Elf self to the world, I will bestow the Blessing of the Sun on you. It will make it so that nobody will be able to question your existence.’
That was quite thought provoking.
If Alberu decides to show his true self as crown prince, she would recreate the legend of the Sun God that was associated with the Crossman Royal family.
‘Of course, I don’t have any plans on revealing myself.’
Why would he?
He had no reason to do so.
That was how he felt.
‘There’s no reason to cause chaos to my people and make rumors come out.’
In addition-
‘I need a free form as well.’
He felt it while playing the game this time.
Alberu needed time to be with his people not as crown prince but as Alberu Crossman, just another person.
Alberu wanted to keep the ‘quarter Dark Elf Alberu Crossman’ a secret so that he could have that freedom.
Ding!
[Urgent sub quest : Show the dignity of the hero!!!!!]
The exclamation marks grew to five.
Alberu had an idea about why the Sun God was like this right now.
‘This is the first time the real Sun God is being connected to the Church of the Sun God in New World.’
The reason that Alberu, despite having his eyes closed, could feel the excitement of the members of the church was because the people here should know the truth to some degree.
This was the reason Alberu’s existence was important.
Hero.
That was proof that reality and Virtual Reality were both becoming real.
‘Haaaaaaaa. I really don’t want to do it.’
Alberu didn’t want to do it because it wasn’t for the Roan Kingdom, but…
‘Haa.’
He just decided to do it.
“Mm.”
Alberu started with a groan.
“Oooh. It looks like the hero-nim is about to arise!”
He heard Cale Henituse’s frivolous voice.
He was certain that the punk was enjoying himself right now.
“Ohhhh, oh herooooo-!”
“The Sun will bestow her blessing!”
The Pope and the Bishops raised their voices and Alberu slowly and naturally opened his eyes.
“Hero-nim!”
He saw the annoying face of Cale Henituse, but…
Alberu gently smiled as if nothing was wrong.
‘Hmm?’
Cale flinched.
‘This is weird.’
Alberu Crossman. The crown prince’s reaction was a bit different from earlier.
He looked like he wanted to avoid an embarrassing and awkward situation, but he suddenly changed into ‘crown prince mode.’
‘Huh?’
Cale felt an unexplainable leeriness and slowly tried to move away from Alberu.
Tap.
But Alberu’s hand grabbed Cale’s shoulder.
He then slowly raised himself up.
“Ah-”
“Hero-nim!”
The Pope, Holy Maiden, and the Bishops, who had not dared to approach the center of the room where the sun was shining down through a hole in the ceiling, slowly started to approach.
They were the top executives of the Church of the Sun God and had seen all of the miracles that the hero had done.
The divine item releasing the power of chaos…
The light of the sun that had been smashing against the frozen surface despite that divine item taking control of the area…
That had truly been extraordinary.
Everything Cale had done had been quite surprising and extraordinary as well, but they couldn’t help but be more excited about the power of the Sun God.
Shh.
However, they could not get any closer.
“Ah.”
“Mm.”
Alberu sat up straight, raised up his palm, and told them to stop.
“Mm.”
Cale let out a groan.
‘Something is weird.
Why is this guy smiling so sentimentally?’
Alberu Crossman was smiling elegantly but sentimentally.
He then slowly stood up.
He slightly staggered.
He was moving for the first time in about four days.
“Ah!”
“Eek, hero-nim-”
But Alberu rejected all of the concerned gazes and people coming close to support him and stood up straight.
‘Mm.’
Cale was thinking that he should not be next to Alberu because of the mood.
He slowly took about three steps to the side.
This was a very good decision.
“…….”
Alberu silently looked up.
This place was the most central location in the Vatican, the center of the Church of the Sun God.
This place was called the ‘Temple of Light.’
It was a dome shaped building that got smaller as it went higher.
Sunlight was pouring down from the narrow ceiling.
Alberu quietly looked up before putting his hand on his scabbard.
[Charging completed!]
He ignored the message he heard.
Instead, he looked down before pulling out his sword.
He then gazed at the Pope, the Holy Maiden, Sir Boltien, and the bishops who were all looking at him.
The sentimental smile was now confident and dignified.
Although Alberu was a crown prince, he was realistically ruling a country.
It was the moment those qualities openly revealed themselves.
“…….”
“…….”
The members of the church could not easily open their mouths as someone who they thought as just a hero was looking so different like this.
Clang.
Alberu slowly pulled out his sword.
“Ah.”
The Holy Maiden felt an unexplainable sense of excitement after seeing the same sunlight coming from the ceiling pouring out of the sword.
When even the Holy Maiden had been about to feel suffocated by the power released by the divine item of the God of Chaos at the gorge…
The holy and radiant light that had been the only source of light in the night without the sun…
The hero had been at the center of that light, coughing up blood and radiating light until the moment the light went out.
Drip.
The Pope was already silently crying.
“…….”
Cale slowly turned unsettled at this extremely noble, solemn, and holy sight.
‘Ho.’
He couldn’t believe it.
Alberu Crossman pulled his sword out, not too fast, not too slow, as if he was filming a movie.
He did so while looking extremely cool and dignified.
That guy usually did not pull his sword out like this.
But this right now-
– He’s bluffing.
The Dominating Aura had not said anything wrong these days.
“…….”
Alberu pulled his sword all the way out, looked around, and then started to speak.
“The Sun God has sent me here.”
The Pope’s mouth opened.
“Ah, ah- as expected-!”
The Holy Maiden also clenched her eyes before opening them back to look at the light of the sun.
“The life I have lived was just an illusion-”
Her voice was full of sorrow.
But also full of delight.
“But even that illusion will become a true past.”
New World was now a real world.
The proof was that the real Sun God, not the one the system had set for them, decided to embrace them in her arms.
As proof of that-
‘She has sent the hero-nim!’
Furthermore-
“The Sun will now always shine down on you in this place as well.”
A hero who will save this world!
Alberu Crossman looked like a true hero.
He looked extremely picturesque, fitting the name of the sun.
In addition, waking up after being unconscious for four days but waking up with such a sparkle in his eyes and a dignified appearance was enough to shake the hearts of the Church of the Sun God.
“Hero-nim.”
The Pope stood up.
He slightly staggered.
The others tried to support him but he also rejected their help and slowly walked up to Alberu.
He had something to do.
A task given to him by the real Sun God.
“Bring it over.”
Some bishops moved to bring a big box over.
They cautiously placed the box in between the Pope and Alberu before moving back.
“Sir Boltien.”
“Yes, your Holiness.”
The greatest Holy Knight of the Church of the Sun God slowly opened the box.
‘Oh.’
Cale was amazed.
‘Wow.’
There was an extremely sparkly and beautiful pure white armor inside it.
The Pope pulled the helmet out of the box.
The helmet had no jewels, gold, or anything, but the elegant design and mysterious white color made it look extremely holy.
“Hero-nim.”
He cautiously moved the helmet toward Alberu.
“Could you please become our hero?”
Ding!
Alberu heard a ding and saw a message.
[*You have reached the final level to become a hero and to use the Sun Sword!]
The reason it had said last time that Alberu was lacking the requirements…
The reason he was the hero chosen by the Sun God but still lacked the power to use the Sun Sword…
That was because he was not the Church of the Sun God’s official hero.
‘It was unbelievable.’
Alberu had been flabbergasted, but thinking about it now, it made sense.
So he acted as best he could as a hero.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your hero.”
He then received the helmet.
Drip.
A tear dripped down the Pope’s face. Alberu smiled beautifully and sent a consoling gaze toward the Pope.
‘Aigoo.’
Cale was thinking all of this was absurd but just quietly stood there.
Ding!
[*Your ability to use the Sun Sword will increase based on the level of support you receive as the hero from the believers of the Sun God!]
Alberu relaxed a bit.
‘It’ll be easier to use than last time.
I shouldn’t end up stupidly dripping blood like Cale Henituse anymore.’
The Sun Sword. He didn’t know the limits of this sword but if he used it to the same level he did last time, Alberu felt like it might push him to the point he could not move but he shouldn’t cough up blood or faint.
His instincts were telling him that would be the case.
‘All done.’
Alberu turned his head with satisfaction.
His task was now done.
His gaze turned toward Cale.
“Ah.”
The Pope realized the meaning behind that gaze and smiled warmly toward Cale.
“The Church of the Sun God has completed our needs so please continue.”
‘What you got?’
Alberu looked at Cale with such a gaze but Cale just ignored him and smiled gently.
“Yes, your Holiness. Thank you very much.”
“It’s nothing. You cannot miss the moment the power of the sun is at its strongest.”
It was slightly past noon right now.
The sunlight coming through the ceiling will slowly start to decrease.
“You said that you need to purify the divine item of the God of Chaos?”
The Pope treated Cale with respect.
He had seen the miracles Cale had completed through the video recording device the Holy Maiden had brought him.
This person was even more amazing than the Hero-nim.
‘Purify the divine item of the God of Chaos?’
Alberu’s eyes clouded over.
Cale didn’t care and continued to say what he wanted.
He spoke extremely respectfully.
“Yes, your Holiness. I needed a holy place where the eye of the God of Chaos cannot reach.”
“Then there is probably no better place than this.”
They had already discussed this in advance, so the Pope left Cale there and moved back.
Alberu also slowly moved back.
But his face looked uncomfortable.
‘He’s going to purify that thing?’
The divine item of the God of Chaos.
How big of a mess had that knife created?
He felt like it could be purified, but it would not be easy to do so.
At the center of the light…
Cale was the only one left.
The others stood in a circle watching him.
[Sub quest : Let’s earn the ‘Purification of Chaos’ skill!]
[Go to a holy place where the eye of the God of Chaos cannot reach and rip the ‘Purification of Chaos’ text!]
[Sub quest : Let’s change the divine item’s attribute to ‘nothing’!]
[Go to a holy place and make the ‘Knife of Chaos’ submit!]
Cale had decided to use these two quests as the basis to discuss the purification of the knife and was planning on taking care of them at once.
‘Mm.’
However…
‘It’s easy to earn the Purification of Chaos.’
He just needed to rip the purification text here.
‘But how do I turn the attribute of this divine item to nothing?’
Cale pulled the Knife of Chaos out of his pocket.
Although his skin was still grey, Cale quietly observed the knife that was no longer shaking.
‘Mm.’
He then looked at the quest window again.
One.
There was an extremely annoying word.
[Sub quest : Let’s change the divine item’s attribute to ‘nothing’!]
[Go to a holy place and make the ‘Knife of Chaos’ submit!]
‘Make it submit?’
Submit…
– Me?
The Dominating Aura spoke up.
Cale just ignored him.
‘No. Maybe I should use a bit of the Dominating Aura?’
Cale used an extremely small amount of the Dominating Aura. It was extremely extremely faint so that it would not make the others feel fear.
–.
The knife did not respond.
Instead, the people around felt a mysterious pressure slowly rise up and gulped.
Cale didn’t care and continued to think.
‘Mm.’
He thought hard before raising his head without any answer.
The sunlight was so bright that his eyes almost closed.
In that instant…
-#$^
He heard a voice.
‘Huh?’
It was an unfamiliar voice.
Cale tried to listen better.
But he could not hear it.
‘Maybe?’
He opened his eyes.
It was so bright that he felt like he would cry, but…
-#$^
He heard the noise again.
‘Is it the Sun God?’
This situation made it so that he couldn’t help but have that thought.
The noise he heard was the same as earlier as well.
He tried to listen better.
– Beat it up.
‘Huh?’
– …….
He did not hear anything else.
Cale closed his eyes.
Drip.
A tear dripped out of his eye.
It had been too bright.
“…Ah.”
A hero overflowing with dignity shedding a single tear while looking up at the sun.
One of the bishops subconsciously gasped and clasped his hands together.
Cale didn’t care and opened his eyes.
As the single tear dripped down and only a trace of it remained…
“Pope-nim.”
“Yes sir?”
Cale asked the Pope for something with a serious look on his face.
“May I use this cloth on the ground?”
There was a thick cloth on the ground that had been placed there for the unconscious Alberu earlier.
He heard that this cloth had been made with threads dipped in Holy Water.
“Ah, yes sir. Please use it as you need.”
The Pope had no issue letting him use the cloth.
“Thank you very much.”
Cale placed the knife at the edge of the cloth that was thick but not soft, which made him think earlier that it would be painful for the unconscious Alberu.
‘?’
People looked confused.
“Ah.”
The Holy Maiden gasped.
“Maybe he is planning on using the power the Sun God has bestowed to help him purify it?”
As the members of the church looked concerned after hearing her comment…
‘That’s not it.’
Alberu tilted his head to the side.
‘This is how he looks right before he causes trouble.’
Cale Henituse.
This bastard was acting calm but the corners of his lips were twitching.
This seemed like it may end up being a bit much.
“…….”
But Cale just kept moving silently.
He placed the Knife of Chaos on the edge of the cloth then covered the knife with it.
The knife was wrapped up in the cloth.
Ooooooooong-
The knife suddenly started to shake.
The mood turned serious.
It felt like something was about to happen.
“Huuuuuu.”
Cale stood up and stared at the divine item that was no longer visible because it was covered.
Ooooooooong-
He could still see it shaking.
Cale nonchalantly looked at it and let out a deep breath.
He then slowly raised his foot.
Crack!
He stepped on it.
Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!
He stomped very diligently.
He stomped with everything he had.
Stomp! Stomp!
He gave it his best with his feeble body.
Stomp! Stomp!
He kept stomping on the divine item.
“?”
“??”
“…Huh?”
The Pope, the Holy Maiden, and the others all looked confused.
They could not believe what they were seeing.
Stomp! Stomp!
However, Cale was serious.
He could not hide the twitching corners of his lips as he spoke to the divine item.
“You are like the crown, aren’t you?”
The crown.
The crown that drank Dragon blood had been pummeled by Cale after trying to drink Raon’s blood and almost broke.
Ooooooooong-
The divine item was shivering.
Cale didn’t care and excitedly stomped some more before turning his head.
“Sir Boltien.”
Boltien flinched after seeing the excitement in Cale’s eyes.
But Cale ignored that and continued to speak.
“Please bring me a hammer.”
Ooooooooong-
The divine item shook intensely.
Cale didn’t care and continued to be serious.
Cale, who was still releasing a small amount of Dominating Aura, snickered as he spoke.
“Please hurry. Could you please get me a hammer?”
He looked back at the divine item.
“Let’s go until we see a crack.”
Oooooong– oooooong—-
The divine item shook in fear but Cale was serious.
It could not be helped.
[Sub quest : Let’s change the divine item’s attribute to ‘nothing’!]
[Go to a holy place and make the ‘Knife of Chaos’ submit!]
He saw a new message once he started to beat it up.
[Remaining chaos attribute : 100%]
It fell the more he stomped on it.
[Remaining chaos attribute : 99.2%]
It was down this much now.
There was still a lot of chaos attribute left.
There was a long way to go.
‘This rotten knife that tried to call the God of Chaos here!
This knife that sucked up the lives of numerous sacrifices through 42 rituals!
This knife that made us suffer so much!’
Stomp! Stomp!
Cale continued to stomp on the knife and asked, no, ordered the blankly standing Boltien.
“Bring a hammer or anything that may break this knife.”
“Y, yes sir!”
Oooooong– oooooong! Ooooooong! Ooooooooong!
The divine item shook intensely.
Cale didn’t care.
“This is driving me nuts.”
Alberu watched Cale excitedly stomp on the knife as if releasing his frustration before clenching his eyes shut.
