Chapter 581 - Chapter 581: Chapter 581: Ling Jinhua Appears

Chapter 581: Chapter 581: Ling Jinhua Appears

“What are you doing?” a voice that wasn’t loud but very authoritative said from behind.

Everyone turned around, and to their surprise, they saw the birthday celebrant, Ling Jinhua, who had just been lying in bed, shakily walking out with the help of two nurses. Once outside, he stood under the eaves, supported by the nurses’ hands.

Although the old man was of advanced age and his body was frail, so thin that it seemed a gust of wind could carry him away, and his voice wasn’t loud, the courtyard fell silent in an instant. You could hear a pin drop—no one dared to say anything further.

“This is supposed to be a celebration for my birthday, not an attempt to infuriate me to death!” Ling Jinhua said, thumping his cane heavily on the ground.

Upon hearing this, everyone except Luo Ziling bowed their heads in shame.

Luo Ziling, already tall, stood out even more as everyone else bowed their heads. He met Ling Jinhua’s gaze without flinching, showing not a hint of guilt.

“There has been no fighting in the Ling Family Old Mansion for decades, yet today, you’ve broken that record. On the day of my ninetieth birthday, you’ve turned the old mansion’s courtyard into a full-blown battlefield,” Ling Jinhua said excitedly, hitting the ground with his cane forcefully.

His demeanor was so alarming that even Ling Mingrui couldn’t help but feel frightened. He quickly walked over to support his father, “Dad, it’s cold outside, please go back in.”

“You are the Family Head, and you will handle today’s matters personally,” Ling Jinhua pushed away Ling Mingrui’s hand,

“Luo Ziling, Ling Haiyang, come to the front,” knowing that his father was truly angry and understanding the implication of Ling Jinhua’s instructions, Ling Mingrui did not hesitate to order the instigators, Luo Ziling and Ling Haiyang, to step forward.

Ling Haiyang, with a bruised and swollen face, tried to indicate how badly he had been hit, gesturing to two others who had also been injured by Luo Ziling to help him forward. Luo Ziling, under Ling Ruonan’s urging gaze, walked to the front unwillingly.

“Explain the cause of today’s incident,” Ling Mingrui said, looking coldly at the two youths with their differing expressions, his brow slightly furrowed, “Who will speak first?”

Luo Ziling appeared arrogant, unwilling to bend, while Ling Haiyang was putting on a pitiful act, listless as a frostbitten eggplant.

“I’ll speak first,” originally, Luo Ziling wanted to wait for Ling Haiyang to state his case, but when he saw no response coming after a while, he had to start himself.

He glanced around and saw Ling Qingqing, who was standing far away. Her gaze suddenly became fervent as he looked in her direction.

“Just now, I came out of my room and wanted to say hello to get to know each other. But when I met him, he called me a bastard,” Luo Ziling said, with deep sadness in his voice, “I had never met him before today, and there had been no conflicts. I even greeted him with a smile, and yet he said that to me.”

“Even if he cursed me as a freak or effeminate, or even called me a pervert, a son of a bitch, I wouldn’t get this angry. But he called me a bastard, which is an insult not only to me but also to my parents. Insulting me is one thing, but insulting my parents, my grandfather, that’s something I’ll never tolerate, even if it kills me. No matter who it is, if they curse me like that, I’ll fight them with all I’ve got,” Luo Ziling said with determination.

Luo Ziling’s words were loud and emphatic.

He didn’t stop there, but continued, pointing at Ling Haiyang, “My mom should be your aunt, right? He doesn’t give a damn about his own aunt, insulting her openly, and others joined in to curse me too, even he cursed me.” As he said this, Luo Ziling pointed to Ling Zhengjun, “I might not know who he is, but I can tell he’s definitely an elder from the Ling Family, and to think he would go so far as to repeatedly call his own family’s son a bastard. I just want to ask, if I cursed you all with the same words, would you be able to endure it?”

Luo Ziling pointed at Ling Zhengjun, whose face was still swollen, “When one of your own family curses another in such an utterly insulting tone, I thought that everyone lacked manners, there was no respect for elders or care for the young. So, I stooped to your level just this once. Whoever calls me a bastard, whoever insults our whole family, I’ll hit them.”

Everyone present was shocked by Luo Ziling’s words.

Ling Mingrui was even more shocked, for Luo Ziling had directly insulted the entire Ling Family. Luo Ziling’s implication was that the Ling Family had poor morals, did not know how to honor the elderly or care for their own family, and as a junior, was brazen enough to curse his own elders. He felt that everyone in the Ling Family was poorly taught.

Moreover, Ling Mingrui also noticed that when Luo Ziling spoke, he did not call him ‘grandpa’ nor did he call Ling Jinhua ‘Great Grandfather,’ nor did he refer to the others as cousins. In other words, he didn’t see himself as part of the Ling Family, speaking entirely as an outsider.

If during the outbreak of violence earlier Ling Mingrui regarded Luo Ziling as a reckless, ill-mannered lad who could only speak with his fists, after hearing Luo Ziling’s words just now, he immediately changed his opinion.

This brat was not reckless but decidedly clever. But, Ling Mingrui said nothing and looked at Ling Haiyang, “Say something.”

Observing the situation from the back, Ling Haining felt something was amiss.

It seemed like the two elders had no intent to punish Luo Ziling, and Luo Ziling’s words were cleverly crafted, portraying himself as provoked by the descendants of the Ling Family, driven to irrational behavior, leading to his rash actions.

Frightened, Ling Haiyang suddenly knelt on the steps with tears in his voice, “Great Grandfather, Grandfather, it wasn’t like he said, I didn’t provoke him. He looked down on us and talked to us with disdain. We were provoked by him, so we blurted out and called him a bastard. Then he just started hitting us, beating me to a pulp, and even when my dad tried to intervene, he hit him too. It’s outrageous, he’s bullied all of us in the Ling Family, completely disregarding the Ling Family, not taking Great Grandfather and Grandfather into consideration at all.”

“It’s not like that,” a crisp female voice spoke up.

Fuming and about to scold Ling Haiyang, Luo Ziling turned his head and saw that it was Ling Qingqing, the young girl who had been quite friendly to him, stepping forward to speak.

“Haiyang, it was you who started it. When Ziling cousin reached out to greet you, you refused to shake his hand and called him a bastard. Afterward, all of you called him a bastard and even prepared to beat him up in a group. Ziling cousin was forced to fight back in self-defense. You can’t spout lies,” Ling Qingqing said.

Ling Qingqing’s words once again shocked everyone in the yard.
