The Unlimited Ascension: Reborn as an Extra

Just a few hours ago, in the WGA office.

Everyone was working peacefully at their desks. Among them, one guy sat there leisurely, scrolling through social media on his phone.

"Hey man, if the manager finds out about you lounging around here, you are surely going to lose your job..."

The man smirked slightly, still scrolling his phone without a fear in the world.

"Hehe, why worry? There is no way they are going to find out. Besides, I already checked the records. This bunch of commoners are disinteresting; it is boring to keep measuring them. As if they are going to awaken some god-like power! Just a waste of time."

"Don’t say that! Don’t you know even the ’Supreme Sage’ was also a commoner? He broke that record and climbed to the very top. So don’t underestimate the commoners. Maybe someone new will also appear who will reach that same level..."

"Ha! In your dreams. Don’t compare someone else with him. There is no way someone of his level will appear from the low ones..."

He waved his hand and ignored his colleague. Leaning back in his office chair, he kept scrolling through social media.

Just as the silence was maintained and everyone decided to ignore his laziness and focus on their work, a red light suddenly sparked in the room. All the screens which were showing the status of different individuals a second ago suddenly turned red. Alert signs appeared everywhere, flashing warnings across the room.

Loud system chimes echoed through the surroundings.

[Ding! The Overall System has been Crashed because of an Unknown anomaly! A large amount of data has been erased from the Artificial System!]

[Ding! The system has been hacked and the damage is spreading to all Association offices around the world.]

[Ding! The devices have been overloaded!]

[Ding! Due to the sudden overload, all of the artificial systems have been forcibly shut down!]

Everyone looked around with pale faces as they frantically tried to do something to fix it.

The guy who, just a second ago, was busy on his phone looked around. All the color drained from his face as he realized the entire global system had crashed on his watch.

"Hey, do something! We can’t let that happen, or the higher-ups are definitely going to kill us!"

"I am trying! Wait a second, why is the screen turning off?! F*ck, the keyboard is not working!"

Suddenly, hot sparks started to fly from the screens and the keyboards. The workers felt bewildered.

The lazy guy looked at the smoking machines and screamed.

"Run away immediately! There is going to be an explosion!"

Without wasting his time, he crashed right out of the window, breaking through the glass as he flew out of the Association office. Many other of his Awakener colleagues did the exact same, imbuing mana into their feet to survive the drop. But some of the non-Awakened staff weren’t able to jump. Before they could do anything, the massive blasts occurred.

*BOOOM!* *BOOOM!* *BOOOM!*

The guy fell down onto the street, still alive. He saved himself from the fall because he was an Awakener, and falling down from a building didn’t hurt him as much.

He looked up at the building he used to work in. The entire top floor where he had been sitting blasted outward in a ball of fire. The flames spread immediately to the whole building, and people screamed, running from here to there in panic.

*Buzz...* *Buzz..*

As his phone vibrated in his pocket, he picked it up and placed it to his ear without even looking at the caller ID.

"Hello, Loid, are you there?! What is the situation over there?! Here, a large amount of information was wiped out from the system and an explosion occurred! We were barely able to escape! What is happening there?"

Loid wasn’t able to speak for a few seconds. He finally spoke hesitantly.

"Here too..."

He immediately cut the phone call. He checked his social media, where there was a group formed between the common members of Association offices across the world.

As he checked the chat, his face turned pale. He couldn’t speak as he read the frantic messages.

[Hey! The system has crashed around this place!]

[Everyone, the Vale City Association building has exploded! The overall data has been stolen!]

[Hey, someone guaranteed hacked everything! That is why such a large destruction occurred!]

[What should we do now?!]

[Let’s pray. At least we might recover some of the information, or we will all be dead meat.]

As he read those messages, the phone slipped from his trembling hand and clattered onto the street.

He couldn’t help but feel tense. He didn’t know what was going to happen now. He wasn’t worried about losing his job; he was worried about what this problem could signal.

The last time a similar, though much lower-level, crisis had been launched against their artificial system, it had been a signal for war. He had been just a child at the time, but he had heard from his father that his grandfather had been one of the officers involved in that crisis.

A dangerous organization had descended upon them back then and nearly taken over several regions under their control.

But thanks to the presence of powerful Ascenders, those areas were eventually reclaimed. However, the battle had resulted in massive destruction across the affected regions, leading to the deaths of countless civilians.

But the current situation was far more critical than it seemed.

The crash wasn’t limited to just one or two offices in a particular region. It had occurred at WGA offices all around the world.

"Who the hell could cause such a massive problem?..." he muttered. "Is it some secret organization competing against the WGA? Or some other powerful enemy?"

He didn’t know. There was no way he could find out the truth behind it.

But he knew one thing for sure.

The higher-ups wouldn’t sit still.

If they discovered the person behind this incident, they wouldn’t simply kill them. They would torture that person until they lost even the will to live.
