Chapter 1988: Chapter 1934–1935: Xuántiān’s Concerns and Secret Plot
“The Space Dao, truly fearsome!” Taoist Monarch Xuantian stood with his hands behind his back, observing the Witch God Sect Leader’s actions, a chill in his eyes.
Among the current veteran Dao Lords, aside from the Longevity Taoist Monarch Pei Xuanjing who emerged abruptly, traversing many levels in a short span of time to stand shoulder to shoulder with them, or even surpass them, the rest of the veteran Dao Lords were already long-established figures.
As the leader of the human race’s Righteous Path back then, Taoist Monarch Xuantian, apart from continuously suppressing and guarding against the constant challenges from the Sword Sect, was also wary of other forces.
Some powerful figures from certain forces might have believed that the only challenger Xuantian Sect faced was the Sword Sect, but only from Xuantian Sect’s position could one see that the real challengers exceeded just the Sword Sect, as which of those once top-ranking forces, and now top immortal sects, are without ambition?
Aside from Xuan Du Guan and Taisu Sect, which either have few members or a group of female cultivators banding together without the ambition for supremacy, the other forces are all ambitious.
The Sword Sect came forth only because of their sharpness and also due to other forces’ instigation and support, urging the Sword Sect to challenge the might of the Xuantian Sect.
If it were only the upstart Sword Sect, with Xuantian Sect’s foundation, they would have suppressed them long ago. They couldn’t achieve this because other forces didn’t wish to see Xuantian Sect’s unrivaled dominance, dragging them back in secrecy.
Of course, no one imagined that the situation would evolve to the present day, allowing a strong figure emerging from an end-law land of Ancestral Land to break the balance, causing the current situation.
Upon closer inspection, these newly risen forces in this world mostly have various connections with the Shenxiao Sect and Longevity Taoist Monarch, and aside from these, it remains the structure of the Desolate World, where those first-class forces, now large immortal sects, dwell beneath the top immortal sects.
Perhaps some newly-arisen strong figures believe that the current evolution of the situation is due to an inequitable distribution of benefits over the past ten thousand years.
But it goes beyond that; this unfair distribution of benefit has existed from ancient times, and those large immortal sects have long wanted to break the rules established by these people, only they lacked the strength before. Now they have grown, believing they possess this ability.
However, regarding the ideas of these strong figures and immortal sects, Taoist Monarch Xuantian never gave them much thought, or even if he considered them seriously, he would not invest too much energy, unless a Taoist Monarch emerges or some qualitative transformation occurs on their part.
The true opponents are only those top-immortal sects, meaning the real opponents have always been these veteran Dao Lords.
Taoist Monarch Xuantian knew that this situation isn’t impossible to suppress; at least, if these veteran Dao Lords unify their will, they can certainly continue to delay, pushing it back another few thousand years.
The current development of the situation is largely due to the indulgence of these veteran Dao Lords, even pushing it forward behind the scenes.
This is the common will of many veteran Dao Lords, who also wish to reap benefits from it, advancing their own path further.
Therefore, his true opponents are only veteran Dao Lords, a thought shared by most veteran Dao Lords, as the opponents they fear are only each other.
In Taoist Monarch Xuantian’s plan, the ones he truly feared were merely Longevity Taoist Monarch, Sword Emperor, Ancestor Celestial Master, Witch God Sect Leader, and two Bodhisattvas of the Buddhism School.
As for Mystic Capital Taoist Monarch, and the Demonic Way’s Blood Fiend Ancestor, although they are formidable, they are not his real enemies.
Xuan Du Guan has few disciples, which might be a crushing force against ordinary large immortal sects, but among top immortal sects, it is a great disadvantage, meaning they can hold ground and preserve their interests but cannot vie for leadership.
The same goes for those few Tao Lords of the Demonic Way; their strength is undeniable, but internal conflict is relentless, making unity impossible. Moreover, other strong figures absolutely would not allow the Demonic Way to dominate the world.
The rules of the Demonic Way are too harsh; such a cruel environment can indeed train strong figures, but it also serves to highlight the glory of the Righteous Path, for only the black of the Demonic Way can underscore the white of the Righteous Path.
This is why many Dao Lords tacitly allow the Demonic Way’s existence.
However, the presence of the Demonic Way is to validate new roads, to serve as a whetstone, as a backdrop. Should the Demonic Way become predominant, the situation in the Realms of Heavenly Seas would become even harsher; many Heaven’s Proud might not even have a chance to grow, turning into a place where everyone feels insecurity, which doesn’t align with the interests of the Dao Lords.
Thus, the Demonic Way might expand its influence and gain more benefits, but it can never become the true ruler of the world; this is something no side would allow, and even the Demonic Way itself understands this point.
The Buddhism School is similar in essence, for their ideology transcends racial boundaries, and their doctrines dilute the concept of the human race in their interpretations, a point of dissatisfaction for many strong figures.
Aside from the branch of Joyous Buddha leaving behind bloodlines, other branches, though not forbidding marriage, have practices destined to impact the prosperity of human bloodlines, which is a significant disadvantage.
Among the Dao Lords today, nearly all hail from the pure human race, even the newly ascended Dao Lords from other worlds in the Realms of Heavenly Seas are branches of the human race, recognizing the ideology of humanity.
