The Rise of the Black Plain

Chapter 2947: The Throne of the Law of Death!

Chapter 2947: The Throne of the Law of Death!

Near the Throne of the Law of Death, the circulating water was so murky that it was nearly impossible to see beyond a few hundred meters. Even the eyes of cultivators as formidable as Minos and Devdar could not pierce the 350-meter distance between them and the maximum range of their vision.

Lily trembled involuntarily at the crackling aura that pervaded the area. Eerie, ghostly sounds filled the space as if they were trapped inside an invisible magical box—echoing off every corner and returning with ever greater force against them.

She felt as if countless souls were watching, yearning for their daring defiance before the absolute presence of the Throne of the Law of Death.

Minos and Devdar halted, with Lily caught between them. For a moment, they fixed their gaze on the nearly tangible essence that lay within reach—if not for the invisible pressure that held them back.

The water grew increasingly viscous along its course as underwater currents pushed against them, desperately trying to drive them away from that essence. Meanwhile, their minds felt as if they teetered on the brink of a precipice, with the laws governing that throne testing the limits of their wills.

"Impressive!" Devdar exclaimed, goosebumps rising on his skin. "I never imagined the power of death could be so overwhelming!" His words rang out with sincerity, especially considering that they were in the Upper Realm—where one would expect the power of death to be far greater in Hell, or so he thought.

Minos nodded in agreement before adding, "It's best that you two do not advance any further. The laws in this region are more unstable than I anticipated, and the power of this throne is truly overwhelming."

The two continued to watch the black throne, silently awaiting its next possessor. No words of advice were necessary from Minos; they would not dawdle any further, even if he had not spoken.

Devdar, in particular, had long considered that the Throne of the Law of Time he had once encountered near his territory had been among the most challenging to claim. Yet now, facing the Throne of the Law of Death, he was not sure whether the throne he had passed to Minos was the most formidable of all.

'Back then, I didn't have to move it as is being demanded by this very throne before us… But the power of the Throne of the Law of Death appears staggeringly daunting!'

Minos spoke before pressing onward, "Watch over Lily for me in the meantime. I'll return sooner than you might imagine." With a smile on his face, he advanced toward the throne, leaving Devdar with mounting doubts.

Minos, too, recognized the mighty force of the Law of Death, but unlike Devdar, he did not underestimate his own Law of Time.

'The Law of Death is, by its very nature, more aggressive than the Law of Time. It's no wonder that its representing throne is so hostile.'

He pressed forward, feeling the untamed will of that empty throne attempt to bar his way—but he advanced nonetheless, summoning every ounce of his strength.

'Still, you are no stronger than the Law of Time itself. I am sure of that!'

With his personal throne manifesting itself in that gloomy zone, Minos took control of the flow of time, surging forward several dozen meters in an instant. As if sensing a ghost drawing near, the black throne emitted an even more horrific aura, summoning countless dark creatures from the depths of that abyssal zone. From one of the throne's armrests, a streak of purple energy shot forth like a high-velocity projectile aimed directly at Minos.

Just moments before the projectile could strike one of Minos' arms, he moved his hands—and the surrounding water turned jet black, reflecting his profound understanding of darkness.

The negative beings summoned by the throne faltered in their movements for an instant as the purple line collided with the obsidian liquid and immediately disintegrated.

As if seizing the decisive moment to vanquish a formidable foe, Minos drew a sword from the void, coating it in silver flames, while his body expanded into the form of a magnificent dragon. In that moment, Minos' power equaled that of a True Celestial at level 128, capable of threatening any existence below level 129!

Devdar watched the scene before him with his mouth agape, overwhelmed by a power that even all of the Divine beings of level 128 united would struggle to resist.

'It appears Minos is nearing his next breakthrough…' Devdar thought in astonishment, enchanted by the young man's display of might.

Still, Devdar was not entirely confident that victory would come so easily to Minos.

Minos unleashed his full strength on the throne, causing the waters to quake violently in his presence. For a moment, that dark, frigid abyss transformed into a radiant, scalding core of tension. The laws under Minos' control clashed against the Law of Death, turning the situation into a titanic contest between two colossal entities.

At the point where Minos' attack met the throne, not even a scratch marred its surface—the black throne remained immovable and unyielding!

This was as expected, however.

The thrones representing the Laws were indestructible. One might kill the user of such a throne, but to destroy it was impossible!

To destroy a throne was tantamount to shattering that law itself—and that would essentially break the very fabric of reality. Naturally, it could not be done.

It was no accident that the thrones of the Upper Realm had existed since the dawn of time, changing hands only over eons—or sometimes never having had a user at all.

Reaching the pinnacle of existence to the point of controlling the power of a Law was no trivial feat. With few exceptions, only a handful of beings had ever seated themselves upon the same throne. In other words, very few users have ever held a given throne throughout history—a fact widely acknowledged, as only beings of vastly different powers can truly approach that apex.

The case of the Celestial King's heir was a notable exception, while many of the absolute thrones—those representing the most fundamental Laws of reality—had remained vacant since the calamity of the Ancestral Realm.

Given the sheer significance and might of these entities, Minos did not underestimate his "adversary" today. Even without inflicting a scratch on the throne, the mere contact with it was enough.

A single drop of black fluid fell from Minos' sword, momentarily bridging a connection between the Throne of the Law of Death and his own personal throne.

All of Minos' profound insights into the most potent laws of Hell were condensed in that fleeting instant, and a mental dimension unfolded before him—a communion between his mind and the Law of Death.

'Come with me, and I will end your long wait. I have the ideal candidate to inherit the Law of Death after millions of years without a Deity being in that position. Hell itself would have chosen her, if not for my determination to have her on my side in the Upper Realm!'

The throne trembled for but an instant, then seemed to pause in thought at the spiritual fluctuation emanating from the one Minos mentioned.

When Minos' mental illusion faded, the murky waters around the area cleared, and the dread aura of the throne vanished.

Even the fearsome entities and voices echoing in the vicinity ceased as if they had never truly existed.

All that remained was the black throne, faced by Minos' grand sword—its golden and silvery flames clashing with the unyielding monument.

Minos relaxed his intense, solemn gaze and took a deep, relieved breath. He had succeeded—but he could not shake the feeling of how arduous this test had been.

'I used nearly everything I had, yet it only yielded when I presented the diabolic aura of Abby…' Gradually, Minos resumed his human form, his sword dissipating into the water. 'It seems I must rely on those with compatible affinities to harness these laws. This time, it was 'easy' because I already knew that this was the Throne of the Law of Death. But for the next three, I do not know what they represent. I must be far more cautious.'

Lily and Devdar approached Minos with smiles, astonished at how swiftly he had "conquered" a throne that even Lydis had failed to move.

"Father, congratulations! You were incredible!"

"It's nothing less than being worthy of the legendary Celestial King's position! You truly are extraordinary, Minos!" Devdar added, inwardly swelling with pride for having aided Minos on his journey to the realm.

Minos toyed with the throne in his hands—now much smaller and partially under his control. He might not control the Law of Death or the myriad advantages that come with its throne's user, but he could now channel that essence wherever he wished after having "passed" the previous test.

"In truth, I was almost humiliated before the Law of Death," Minos remarked good-humoredly. "It only yielded when I presented the diabolic aura of Abby."

"Oh?" Lily opened her mouth, her eyes shining with extraordinary light.

Devdar narrowed his eyes and inquired, "Is that really the method to claim these vacant thrones?"

"I'm not sure… It might be. We shall see with the next ones, if I have in mind the ideal candidate for taking them." Minos replied, shaking his head in uncertainty.

"It's worth a try. If it were merely brute strength, Senior Lydis would have already claimed all four thrones," Devdar asserted confidently. "Though we Entitled Deities may not be as strong as Devils of the same level, Senior Lydis is different. Even Devil Ritter would have to be cautious in his presence!"

"Is Senior Lydis really that powerful? How does my father compare to him?" Lily inquired as she moved closer to Devdar.

The blond man, smaller and less imposing than Minos, looked at her and sighed. "They say Senior Lydis is at the absolute peak of level 129. Were it not for the fact that the laws and energy of our dimension are 'weak,' he would have already advanced to level 130 and become an Absolute tens of thousands of years ago."

Devdar shook his head, concluding his thought and answering Lily's questions. "So forget about comparisons. Lydis is the strongest being in existence, and unless a legendary Absolute emerges from somewhere, he is invincible!"

He glanced at Minos with evident difficulty, fully aware of the remarkable power the young man wielded. Unfortunately, the remaining energy and laws of their realm were insufficient for Minos to reach the same level as Lydis—he would forever remain a step below that ultimate existence!

Minos, uninterested in conjecture, motioned for the two to move on. "That doesn't matter. We can only have this throne for ourselves if we secure another one for Lydis."

And so, they pressed onward, navigating toward the region where, according to Lydis's intelligence, the throne closest to their current position lay hidden.
