Chapter 1014:
After ordering the Light Wind Palace swordsmen to stand by in the training hall, Raon headed to the Head of House residence.
“I greet the Palace Lord.”
Roenn, wiping down the doors and walls of the audience chamber, bowed. As Glenn’s butler, he seemed to handle the cleaning of the Head of House residence himself.
“Are you feeling any better?”
“Not fully recovered, but almost there.”
Raon thanked him for his concern and returned the bow.
“Is the Head of House inside?”
“Yes. He’s working, but he’ll probably grant an audience. Please wait a moment.”
Roenn smiled faintly and entered the audience chamber.
“The Head of House has granted an audience. Please come in.”
He returned about a minute later and gestured.
“Thank you.”
Raon followed him in.
He walked across the spotless red carpet and knelt before the platform.
“I greet the Head of House—”
“Get up.”
Glenn’s low voice came from the platform before Raon could lower his head.
“I told you before, there’s no need to bow when we’re alone.”
When Raon raised his gaze, Glenn was smiling faintly.
“Yes, you’ve recovered somewhat.”
Glenn lowered his brows, as if he’d read Raon’s condition at a glance.
“I heard it would take a month, but you were back to training in a week. You really are….”
He chuckled, sounding genuinely dumbfounded.
“I’m a bit sturdy. Maybe I take after Grandfather.”
Raon rotated his wrist, saying he recovered quickly.
“Cough!”
Glenn clutched his head, reacting as if his soul had been shaken by the words “take after Grandfather.”
“Oh. You were training with the kids of the Light Wind Palace again today. Why did you come here?”
He tilted his chin, gripping the broken armrest of the throne with a trembling hand.
“A week ago, I sent a letter to Thespian Emperor Ariel of White Whale, saying I wanted to meet the Five Divine Order.”
Raon produced the reply he had received from Thespian Emperor Ariel.
“You sent a letter to Thespian Emperor Ariel asking to meet?”
Glenn narrowed his eyes.
“And if you’re meeting the Five Divine Order, that means you intend to see the Evil Sword Marquis as well.”
“That’s right.”
Raon nodded calmly.
“What’s the reason?”
Glenn’s gaze sharpened, asking why he’d contacted Thespian Emperor Ariel at a time like this.
“If we leave the Five Divine Order alone, they might be won over by the Four Demons.”
Raon tightened his grip on the letter.
“Right now, the Four Demons must be in disarray because of the deaths of the Black Tower Lord and The Fallen One. They’ll be hiding even deeper than before, trying to reorganize internally. However….”
His eyes shifted to the continental map hanging on the wall.
“Once they’re somewhat prepared, they’ll move again to gather forces. And if it’s Derus Robert, that preparation time won’t be very long.”
“That’s right.”
Glenn tapped the throne’s armrest with a finger, urging him to continue.
“So we must meet the Five Divine Order before the Four Demons move. It’s only two remaining now, though.”
Raon took a short breath.
“The Flying Swallow Guild Lord and I were thinking along the same lines. But it’s unclear how to persuade Thespian Emperor Ariel and the Evil Sword Marquis.”
“There’s no need to persuade them.”
Raon shook his head firmly.
“What do you mean?”
“Even though the Four Sword Demons and Demon Slayer Spear chose the Four Demons, Thespian Emperor Ariel and the Evil Sword Marquis didn’t move. They just kept waiting for a chance to inflate their value.”
Raon’s lips curled into a hard line.
“But now the situation has changed drastically. The Black Tower has fallen, and if there are still people trying to calculate gains and fish for opportunities even after The Fallen One’s death, there’s no need to bring them to our side.”
Raon drew Heavenly Drive, releasing a chilling killing intent.
“I’ll cut them down on the spot.”
“Cut them down? Why?”
Glenn tilted his head, but his eyes were calm, as if he already knew Raon’s answer.
“Trying to calculate profits when their own safety—and their subordinates’ safety—are hanging by a thread isn’t the mindset of a martial artist. It’s a merchant’s. People like that can betray us anytime for a bigger gain. Whether they go to the Four Demons or stand behind us, they’re a problem either way. It’s better to cut them down before they become one.”
Raon lowered his head, asking for permission.
“Hmm….”
Glenn didn’t answer right away, slowly stroking his chin.
“Not afraid of blood, decisive in action, always composed. That’s the attitude a Head of House should have.”
He looked out the window with a faintly nostalgic expression.
“Now I understand what that guy was saying.”
“Hahaha.”
Roenn let out a hearty laugh, as if he understood Glenn’s cryptic words.
“What is…?”
Raon blinked, not following.
“There was a guy who insisted I should hand the position of Head of House to you unconditionally. Hearing you now reminded me of him for the first time in a long while.”
Glenn clicked his tongue and shook his head.
“Ah….”
Raon realized who he meant and pressed his lips together.
“Then, are you confident?”
Glenn’s calm gaze settled on Raon, asking if he was confident he could defeat Thespian Emperor Ariel and the Evil Sword Marquis.
“I know Thespian Emperor Ariel is the strongest among the Five Divine Order. However….”
Raon straightened his back.
“I don’t think I’ll lose.”
His hand rested on Heavenly Drive, confidence clear.
“Then what will you do about the Evil Sword Marquis?”
Glenn smiled, as if he expected that answer.
“The Evil Sword Marquis seems to follow Thespian Emperor Ariel’s lead, but if persuasion fails, I’ll cut them down as well.”
Raon tightened his grip on Heavenly Drive, resolved to be ruthless to protect his people and land.
“That’s not what I mean. I’m asking if you can defeat the Evil Sword Marquis.”
Glenn shook his head, as if telling him to answer properly.
“The Evil Sword Marquis…?”
Raon met Glenn’s steady eyes and let out a low breath.
‘The Evil Sword Marquis should be weaker than Thespian Emperor Ariel, right?’
He didn’t understand why Glenn singled out the Evil Sword Marquis.
‘Is he worried about a combined attack?’
As Raon was about to answer, Glenn spoke first.
“You still don’t know, do you?”
Glenn nodded slowly, as if he’d expected it.
“Then go and experience it yourself. No matter what happens, you’ll gain something.”
He gestured, accepting the mission proposal.
“Be careful on your way.”
“…I understand.”
Raon thanked him and left the audience chamber, still confused.
“Aren’t you going to tell him?”
Roenn looked at Glenn, amusement in his eyes.
“That incompetent master of that child once said this.”
Glenn lifted his gaze to the blue sky, as if measuring how far it stretched.
“Raon grows stronger the more hardships he faces. Something will change, and he’ll come back with it this time too.”
He smiled gently, as if he truly believed Raon would return with an answer.
===
After leaving the Head of House residence, Raon returned to the Fifth Training Ground, where the swordsmen were waiting.
“In two days, we leave for White Whale.”
Raon stood at the edge of the platform and began outlining the new mission.
“The mission is to persuade Thespian Emperor Ariel and the Evil Sword Marquis to form an alliance with the Five Kings. However….”
He shook his head, releasing a chilling Energy Wave.
“If they refuse, we will eliminate White Whale and Swordless Pavilion on the spot.”
Raon clenched his fist, making it clear that was the real objective.
“A-are you serious?”
Burren’s jaw tightened, clearly not expecting Raon to say he would erase White Whale and Swordless Pavilion.
“I’m serious. There’s no need to accept people who might become enemies or stab us in the back.”
Raon nodded as if it were obvious.
“In the worst case, this could turn into a full-scale war with White Whale and Swordless Pavilion. Prepare thoroughly.”
“When do we depart?”
Martha licked her lips, as if looking forward to an all-out fight.
“In two days.”
Raon gestured for them to fully recover their stamina, mental strength, and Aura in the time they had.
“Understood!”
The Light Wind Palace swordsmen’s eyes sharpened, their fighting spirit rising as if they were already on the battlefield.
“Prepare well…. First, check your weapon maintenance….”
Runaan turned and began quietly instructing her subordinates on what to watch for. Her eyes were still blank, but her advice was unexpectedly sharp.
“Disband. We meet here again at dawn in two days.”
At Raon’s order, the Light Wind Palace swordsmen left the training hall in orderly fashion.
“You’re awfully busy, aren’t you?”
The Gambling Monster frowned, as if he didn’t like work.
“Well, at least I don’t have to worry about the kids for a while.”
He clicked his tongue, saying he should pour himself a drink for the first time in a while.
“Thank you for always helping.”
Raon bowed to the Gambling Monster as he was about to leave.
“If you know that, buy me a drink.”
The Gambling Monster turned and swaggered out, indirectly telling him to come back safely.
Whee!
Raon smiled, then whistled toward the sky.
Pee!
A thin cry answered, and a small swallow landed on his fingertip.
“I’m counting on you.”
He took a short letter from his pocket and tied it to the swallow’s leg.
Pee!
The young swallow soared up and flew away.
– “Who did you send it to this time?”
Wrath frowned, saying that swallow didn’t seem to get any rest.
‘I sent it to Grandfather.’
Raon smiled and shook his head.
‘He must be worried. I need to let him know I’m safe, and I want to see if anything else is happening.’
He added that he’d sent one to Rektor as well.
– “Come to think of it, it’s been a while since I’ve seen that old man too.”
Wrath clicked his tongue, wondering what the other doting old man was doing.
‘That’s right. I’m curious too.’
Raon smiled softly, watching the sky where the swallow had disappeared.
‘If this goes well, it wouldn’t be bad to visit him after a long time.’
===
“I see.”
Rektor folded the letter neatly and smiled brightly.
“Is that a letter from Zieghart?”
Muston, practicing swordsmanship behind him, wiped sweat from his forehead and asked.
“How did you know?”
Rektor blinked as he held the letter.
“The only people who make Master smile like that are Raon or Sia.”
Muston grinned, saying it was written all over his face.
“Cough!”
Rektor coughed dryly, trying to force down the corners of his mouth.
“It looks good, so you can keep it.”
Muston waved a hand, saying it was the kind of smile that made him feel good just by seeing it.
“So what did the letter say? Tell me too.”
He rolled his eyes, curious.
“You can read it.”
Rektor tossed the letter over, as if telling him to check for himself.
“Ah!”
Startled, Muston still reached out and unfolded it.
“It’s from Raon. Ha. Huh! Hmmm….”
His eyes widened and narrowed as he read.
“I heard rumors that Demon Slayer Spear and The Fallen One died, but I never thought Raon was really the one who did it!”
Muston trembled, gripping the letter.
“And the Heavenly Demon—he’s insane….”
He could barely breathe as he repeated the shocking facts from the brief message.
“It’s kind of funny. He writes one unbelievable thing after another, then worries about Master’s health at the end.”
Muston chuckled at the last line: Grandfather, I’ll visit you soon, so please be healthy.
“He’s an affectionate kid.”
Rektor tucked the letter Muston returned into his arms, his face filled with a grandfather’s warmth.
“When I first met Raon, we weren’t that far apart. But at some point, the distance widened so much….”
Muston respected Raon, but he sighed, saying he couldn’t understand growth like that.
“It’s best to let go of trying to catch a child like Raon.”
Rektor shook his head, recalling Raon’s talent for imitating others’ martial arts.
“You have a talent that wouldn’t be strange to call genius too. Keep working hard, just as you are.”
He waved Muston off, telling him to focus on his own path.
“I know. Don’t worry!”
Muston smiled, saying he no longer felt jealousy or envy.
“Then I should write a reply too.”
Rektor wrote a response to Raon on the spot.
“M-Master! Me too! Please send my regards!”
Muston waved both hands, insisting.
“I already did.”
Rektor lifted a finger, telling him not to worry, and tied the letter to the swallow’s ankle.
Whoosh!
Just as the black swallow bowed once and soared toward the sunset—
Whoosh!
A white hawk shot in like lightning from the west and seized the swallow by the leg.
Pee!
The swallow screamed and struggled, but the hawk didn’t loosen its grip, as if it meant to kill it outright.
“What….”
Rektor frowned. The swallow Raon had sent was a special spirit beast, yet it couldn’t use any power and was caught in the hawk’s claws.
Tsk.
Rektor clicked his tongue and reached out.
The white hawk was yanked into his grasp.
Crack!
With a twist of his wrist, Rektor snapped the hawk’s neck.
Pee.
Only then did the swallow break free and let out a thin, shaken cry.
“Can you fly?”
Pee.
When Rektor’s eyes softened with concern, the swallow chirped as if it was fine and rose back into the sky.
“M-Master.”
Muston pointed at the dead hawk, swallowing hard.
“Th-there’s a letter tied to it.”
He trembled, staring at the black letter bound to the hawk’s leg.
“No one should know this place. How….”
Muston chewed his lip, not understanding.
“In the end….”
Rektor let out a heavy breath as he saw the Robert family crest stamped at the end of the letter.
“It’s finally here.”
