The Lucky Farmgirl

Chapter 2519 - 2493: Wedding Night

Bai Shan was momentarily stunned, then his face turned bright red, as did Manbao’s. Upon seeing this, Madam Tang clicked her tongue and said, "Out, out, sisters, let’s chase them out. A bunch of stinky men have suffused the new room with their smell."

Seeing Bai Shan and Zhou Manblush, the young men felt they’d regained some face, so they left satisfied without waiting for an answer, laughing heartily with their arms around each other’s shoulders. They called back, "Bai Shan, we’ll be waiting for you outside for a drink, tonight we won’t leave until we’re drunk."

"That’s right, that’s right, later Lord Zhou will give you a needle to dispel the alcohol."

Bai Erlang followed along with silly laughter, but to show he was on Bai Shan’s side, he gave them a kick from behind to make them leave faster.

Yin Huo shook his head with a smile and said to Bai Shan and Zhou Man, "This is something I really can’t help you with."

Though Yin Huo couldn’t help here, he was a great tool at the front.

Out of envy and jealousy, everyone gathered to get Bai Shan drunk.

Of course, there were many people surrounding Bai Shan. Just saying the three brothers, Zhou SiLang, Zhou WuLang, and Zhou LiuLang who came to send off the bride, wouldn’t allow them to actually get him drunk, so they took turns blocking the drinks.

Bai DaLang was somewhat useful, but Bai Erlang and Liu Huan’s alcohol tolerance was totally a liability. As soon as they’d had two cups, their faces turned red, which made people like Zhao LiuLang burst into laughter, "Unlike anything else you do together, your drinking tolerance is definitely the same. No way, we’ve got to test your limits tonight."

Finally, Bai Shan resorted to using Yin Huo as a tool by pulling him over. Whenever someone offered him a drink, he would look dazed, clinging onto Yin Huo, who then volunteered to drink for him.

Who would dare have Yin Huo drink for them? Do they have a death wish?

Although now he seemed just slightly weaker than usual, two decades of a deeply-rooted reputation meant that no one dared to let the capital’s weakest man drink in their stead.

Even Zhao LiuLang sobered up a bit and wobbled away.

Bai Shan finally breathed a sigh of relief, returning to the new room with Yin Huo and Bai Erlang’s support.

Upon reaching the main courtyard at the back, Bai Erlang let him go. Bai Shan staggered a couple of steps, let out a hiccup, and even felt stinky himself.

Bai Erlang stared at him, "Are you really drunk?"

Bai Shan nodded, "Drunk..."

Anyway, he felt thirsty, his face was flushed, and his head was a bit dizzy. What else could it be if not being drunk?

Bai Shan said, a bit aggrieved, "They were too ruthless, but just wait, they’ll have weddings of their own too."

"That’ll only be if they remarry," Yin Huo said clearly, "I just checked, the ones leading the drinking are all already married, like Zhao LiuLang, Lu Yue, Feng Zongping, and Yi Ziyang..."

Most of Bai Shan’s classmates and colleagues were already married.

Bai Shan pouted, feeling wronged, as he reached the new room, he was fairly sober, turned back to give them a cupped fist salute, "Thanks for sending me back, you can go now, I can manage from here."

Yin Huo and Bai Erlang stopped, reached out, and pushed open the door, "Alright, you go in."

Bai Shan stumbled in.

Inside, Jiu Lan and May went up to support him immediately. Manbao approached and seeing his state, knew he was drunk and sighed in relief, "Good, good, I prepared some sober-up soup for you."

Bai Shan came to his senses a bit, but was still pulled by Manbao to sit on a chair, with a bowl of sober-up soup shoved into his hands.

Bai Shan stared blankly at it for a while before saying, "It looks really bitter."

"Not bitter, it’s sour." Manbao said confidently.

Bai Shan held the bowl foolishly and drank, after a sip, he frowned and complained, "It’s bitter, it’s both sour and bitter."

Manbao sat beside him, "It works well. Even Director Xiao said my improved sober-up soup worked well. In a while I’ll have someone soak honey in vinegar water for you. Drink more, go to the toilet a few times, and the alcohol will wear off."

Bai Shan sighed, lifted the bowl again and drank, his whole face scrunched up, after swallowing he sighed again, then drank...

Jiu Lan, standing nearby wanting to speak but stopping, wanted to say it’s not good to sigh on the wedding night, but May looked over and smiled, pulling Jiu Lan outside and closing the door, waiting in the corridor.

A maid came forward to ask, "Young master is back, shall we prepare some food?"

May said, "Wait a bit, he’s still sobering up."

Upon hearing this, the maid left to report to the Old Madam.

Ms.Zheng grew anxious when she heard, "It’s too much ruckus upfront. The elders’ wine isn’t easy not to drink, Shanbao’s classmates and colleagues’ antics he couldn’t very well harshly refuse, but so many from the clan joined the riot, insisting on getting Shanbao drunk..."

Old Madam Liu comforted her, "Don’t worry, I’ve had people watching all along. Thankfully his uncles helped him out, he didn’t drink that much. I saw when he came back, he could still walk steadily."

Ms.Zheng: "Then what about the wedding chamber?"

Old Madam Liu frowned slightly and after a brief contemplation said, "No rush, it’s still early, Manbao can make sober-up soup, yes, have the kitchen send some of her soup up front. Wine may be a fine thing, but too much is not good either."

Sharing joy is better than enjoying alone.

Having finished giving instructions, she reminded the maid, "Keep the water heated in the kitchen; the Young Master and Lady will need to bathe later."

The maid complied and left.

Manbao propped her chin on the table, watching Bai Shan drink the sober-up soup, his eyes slightly reddened and his whole demeanor dazed, she couldn’t help but chuckle, half her face buried in her arm.

Bai Shan seemed to sense her smile, looked down to see her eyes and brows full of laughter, tears of mirth in her eyes, he couldn’t help but smile too, then asked, "Why are you laughing?"

Manbao bashfully buried her whole face in her arms, then partly surfaced her face to secretly peek at him, whispered, "You look nice when drunk, hmm, with irresistible charm."

Bai Shan smiled with pressed lips, perhaps due to the drunkenness, or because they were now married, he grew bolder and leaned over to plant a kiss on her lips, pulling back slightly to ask, "Irresistible to your heart?"

Manbao’s cheeks flushed deeply, but this time she didn’t hide in her arms. She lowered her gaze slightly, nodded, then looked up at him with bright eyes, softly saying, "Irresistible to my heart."

Bai Shan felt his throat tighten; he couldn’t resist leaning down to catch her lips again...

Manbao blushed as she went to open the door, telling Jiu Lan and May, "He’s sobered up, you can prepare the bath water."

Jiu Lan and May answered immediately, happily going to fetch water.

Bai Shan’s face was also rosy, quite sobered now. His eyes were bright as he discarded his outer robe onto the wooden bed and said to Manbao, "I don’t feel dizzy anymore, your sober-up soup is indeed effective."

Manbao mumbled something, Bai Shan didn’t catch it and turned back to ask, "What?"

"Nothing," Manbao tried hard to keep a straight face, "I just opened the door and heard it’s still lively up front. They probably won’t disperse until the curfew."

Bai Shan quietly watched her, suspecting she was trying to change the subject, but what did he care? Bai Shan went to the washroom to bathe and change.

Once both sat on the bed, Bai Shan and Manbao felt a bit awkward again.

Sitting side by side, Bai Shan scratched his head, lightly coughed, and said, "Manbao, the night is deep, let’s sleep."

It wasn’t curfew yet, so it wasn’t really late, but with a blush, Manbao nodded.

They lowered the red curtains and lay on the bed together. Bai Shan quietly reached for her hand, and when Manbao didn’t object, he turned his head to gaze at her. By chance, Manbao looked over too, both their eyes shimmering. Bai Shan leaned closer and kissed her softly, Manbao’s heart raced as she felt like she could hear the thumping sound in her ears...
