Chapter 219: Excidium
Chapter 219: Excidium
"Ah, it seems you’re all here," a voice pulled their attention from the skies to ahead of them, "this should be quite easy then."
The King, Boreas and even Sebastian immediately recognized the man before them.
Or at least, his voice anyway, since reality itself seemed to hide his facial feature....though completely, the truth was that he was deliberately hiding it.
"This seems familiar," he muttered, looking at their faces with a smile...though they couldn’t tell, "the last time I had all four Grand Dukes in one place, things got a little..AllNovelF(ull).Comssy."
He tilted his head slightly.
"Though I suppose that was a different timeline....and it wasn’t exactly me."
The three who recognized him said nothing as they continued looking at him.
"Don’t worry," the cult master continued, "I have no intention of engaging with you six this time....Well, I suppose it was five back then."
Although none undertook to decipher the meaning behind his words, the cult master was clearly looking towards Boreas.
ROAR!!
A roar pulled their attention to the skies, and the cult master looked up with them.
"It seems you all have already met my masterpiece," the cult master said as he watched the creature he had created from Excalibur’s core slowly descend.
Much like the Spirit King, the monster slowly descending from above possessed a humanoid form.
Unlike the Spirit King, however, its skin appeared human rather than being covered in scales.
It had dark skin with patterns all over it, patterns that led towards the center of its chest, where a familiar core lay,
Excalibur’s core.
On parts of the creature’s body were golden metals that acted like armor, and slowly rotating behind its head was a golden disc.
The creature’s face was completely smooth, devoid of any features whatsoever, and yet they could all feel its gaze fixed upon them.
The overwhelming amount of mana radiating from it made one thing abundantly clear.
It was going to be a problem.
Even for Avera’s strongest.
The creature calmly landed beside the cult master, who was currently enjoying the look on the faces of the Grand Dukes and King.
Though, for some reason, the Bishop didn’t look the least bit intimidated...if anything, he seemed curious, but the Cult Master put that aside for now.
"You’ll have to thank me from another timeline for the inspiration," he said with a pleased tone, "though he didn’t send–"
His words were cut off when the space in front of him suddenly cracked as something slammed into it.
"Hm?" He looked at his attacker with a bit of surprise.
"You talk too much," Ignis had a grin on his face, even though his fist had been stopped kid air, "let’s just cut to the fighting part."
The Master looked at him for a while before smiling, "As you wish."
The next second, something crashed into Ignis’s side before he even had a chance to react, launching him straight into the now-empty stands of the arena.
The attack had come so fast that he didn’t even get the chance to sense it.
BOOM!
An explosion went off where Ignis landed as he stood back up, the grin on his face getting wider as he was completely covered in flames.
He then launched himself towards the creature that had attacked him.
In response, the creature slowly lifted its arm and opened its hand just before the Grand duke could reach it.
BOOM!
Another explosion went off as Ignis reached his target, kicking up a smoke cloud.
With a grin, he stepped back, certain that his attack had landed.
But the smoke cloud cleared up to reveal a golden barrier that enveloped both the creature and the cult Master.
They both seemed completely unharmed, which surprised Ignis quite a bit, after all, he hadn’t held back.
"I’ll leave you kids to play with Excidium," the cult master said as he turned back, "meanwhile, I’ll handle our dear anomaly. "
With that, he suddenly disappeared as if he wasn’t there in the first place, leaving the six with the creature identified as Excidium.
Ignis looked at the creature for a while as his grin got wider by the second.
"Finally," he said, "Something worth the evening."
"Don’t be an idiot," Zephir said as he looked at the Excidium before them, "we don’t know what that creature is capable of."
"It possesses the abilities of a Lightbringer." The attention of the Dukes was pulled towards the king, who had a small frown on his face.
"That means–" Zephir started as his eyes widened.
"Hmm," the king nodded as a sword made of hard light appeared in his hand, "it has access to every technique a Lightbringer has ever developed."
"The core spent decades bonded to the Lightbringer bloodline," Magnus continued, "and it has been a catalyst in the creation of most of our techniques. "
"I see," Ignis placed a hand on his chin, as if considering, before his grin returned, "that means it’s stronger than even you."
Before anything else could be said, he launched himself towards the creature with an even wider grin.
"Sebastian," Boreas said, and the butler immediately nodded, completely disappearing the next second.
Dragon-shaped flames were wrapped around Ignis’s fists as he launched a punch forward again, this time without even more force than earlier.
But again, just before his attack could land, he suddenly felt something grab his collar, and the next second, the scene before him suddenly changed.
"What the hell?" He let out as he realized that he had been dragged quite a distance away from the Excidium.
He turned behind, coming face-to-face with the one responsible,
Sebastian, Boreas’s butler.
But before he had the chance to say anything, an explosion pulled his attention back towards the creature.
The spot where he previously stood was now occupied by a large burning crater, one created by a blast of concentrated light that originated from the sky.
Judging by the sheer amount of mana in the air caused by the attack, Ignis was certain that he wouldn’t have come out of that one completely unscathed.
"I apologize for the discourtesy, Grand Duke," Sebastian spoke up, adjusting his monocle, "but Master Boreas felt that your continued survival was preferable to the alternative."
"Thank you," Ignis said as he turned towards the rest.
Unlike him, they were busy observing the creature, staying completely passive.
That is, until the creature made its move.
With speeds that none of them could track, it disappeared where it was and reappeared directly in front of the Grand Duke of the East.
Before Horus had the chance to react, the Excidium’s hand grabbed his face, and then, the next second,
BOOM!
He was slammed into the opposite end of the arena, an attack that inadvertently ended up knocking him out, but it also released him from the strings.
Seeing that one of the six, or rather seven, pests had been knocked unconscious, the Excidium moved towards its next target....Zephir.
Unfortunately for it, the moment it got close enough, vines suddenly burst out from the ground, wrapping around its feet, completely stopping it in its tracks exactly as Zephir had planned.
The creature seemed to be taking out the weakest first, and as much as it was annoying to admit, he was only stronger than the East’s Grand Duke.
So he had made a gamble and set a trap.
Although he couldn’t track the Excidium, he placed the vines in its path and fortunately for him, it worked.
Seeing the opportunity created, Magnus immediately took it, disappearing from his position and appearing next to the creature.
His eyes let out a golden glow as he swung towards its neck, aiming to remove it in one swing.
Before his sword could reach the Excidium’s neck, the creature turned its featureless face towards him.
The next second, Magnus’s sword was cutting through thin air as the creature completely turned itself to light to escape the attack.
The golden light dispersed across the arena before immediately reconverging ten meters away.
"The hell?" Ignis let out with wide eyes, "It can do that?"
Hell, even the King seemed surprised, after all, he was unaware that the Lightbringers were capable of such.
Had he been limiting himself to only what has already been established?
Boreas, who had been silent all this while, suddenly spoke up, "We’re at a disadvantage."
A strange set of words coming from him, especially given how much they outnumbered the creature, but they knew he was right.
The creature before them was going to be a pain to deal with.
