The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1764: Hunting the Hunter (3)

Chapter 1764: Hunting the Hunter (3)

In his own way, Stelios had never underestimated Rex.

He meticulously, almost ritualistically, followed the guidebook he himself had authored a long time ago on how to hunt Werewolves. A perfect, cold execution guide that was designed to maximize his winning chance against any Werewolf.

This would be his final hunt, so it’s only right for him to do everything perfectly without a mistake.

Unfortunately for him, perfect doesn’t guarantee success.

Once again, another rule was crossed out.

Rex was supposed to be alone in this realm; his inner pack members, who would influence him the most, weren’t by his side. It was the perfect time to hunt—an Alpha Werewolf… when he is isolated from his beloved pack.

But that blew up on his face.

Even though he was separated, his other pack members had an acute intuition of danger.

The Luna, in particular, has an incredibly sharp intuition.

Evelyn had already foreseen something like this happening the moment Rex departed without saying.

She knew that Rex was desperate for whatever he needed to get in the Spirit Realm, a need so consuming he’d avoided even a farewell to the pack. He feared some of them might change their minds and inflict him with doubts.

Doubts that weakened his resolve.

And from that, Evelyn could already smell the sharp scent of desperation.

Hence, she made preparations.

Aided by the entity inside the moon earrings, Evelyn suppressed her connection with Rex to the point that it was completely severed. A connection between the Alpha and the Luna is the strongest, and thus, she could capitalize on that.

Rex is resourceful.

Being beside him through ups and downs made that quite obvious to Evelyn.

However, the main problem in this instance was that they were inhabiting different realms.

It was probably the reason he needed to work hard on his own.

So, Evelyn decided to sever their connection—and pooled as much moonlight energy as possible inside her for days. Even the corpses from the cities the great army felled, she asked the Alpha Primes to pile them and then told Sintra to convert them to moonlight energy.

All while the great army marched, Evelyn had been amassing as much moonlight energy.

It even came to a point where Sintra told her to stop lest her body explode from containing too much.

But she kept going.

Rex has gone through a lot, and he was dear to him—she’ll do anything to help him.

And when the signal from Rex came, she opened the connection and flooded it with moonlight energy.

At that moment, the connection swelled tenfold.

Coupled with an ancient ritual that was used by the Werewolves to cross over into the Spirit Realm in the ancient era, she, along with the others’ souls, was wrenched away from the Mortal Realm. Of course, getting there was one thing.

Adapting to that realm was another thing entirely.

But this was Rex.

If anyone could forge a path through the impossible, then it was him.

And he did.

Rex found the way, tempered the Spirit Realm’s hostility, and helped them adapt almost instantly.

It was how Evelyn and the others managed to be here at this moment.

None of them would last long, but it should be more than enough to help Rex end this battle.

“Good work…”

Evelyn’s eyes widened for a second when she felt a weight pressing on her shoulder.

She looked to the side and saw Rex’s big hand holding her shoulder.

It was a gesture that caught her completely off guard, and not to mention, the compliment came out of nowhere, too. At most, she thought doing this would only earn her an acknowledging nod, but what she got was beyond that.

Rex looked down at her and smiled a little.

“I would’ve been in trouble if it weren’t for you.” He said with a strained voice.

For some reason, seeing him smile made Evelyn’s heart flutter, and it also made it hard to meet his eyes.

She threw her face away, not wanting Rex to see her reddening cheeks.

“Don’t thank me yet,” She said, her voice betraying a sliver of happiness. “Finish him off.”

Rex turned to Stelios, who was looking around at his reinforcements in horror.

Above, several thunderous violet explosions resounded as a ghostly white Werewolf, along with a fiery serpent, blocked a large chunk of the celestial warriors. Only a few celestial warriors were taken out by the explosions, but none could go through her.

On the sides, celestial warriors plummeted from the sky.

All crashed like comets, shaking the ground with each impact, before another battle-hardened Werewolf rend them to pieces. None of the celestial warriors that were summoned through his sacrifice could help him right now.

It’s almost like he was the one alone and isolated instead of the Royal Black Prince.

“Don’t start running now…”

Stelios’ body tensed when a chilling voice seeped into his ears.

He looked ahead again and saw Rex approaching slowly, deliberately, raising his sharp claws that were polished and ready to tear him to pieces. Beside him was the Luna, Evelyn, who was infusing him with luna energy.

One could already see that Rex’s complexion was gradually getting better because of her.

“Aren’t you supposed to be the one hunting me?”

“G-Get away!”

Pride. Self-respect. Arrogance. All of those things were out of the window when death was certain.

Stelios turned around and ran away.

His divine decree, the sacred power that allowed him to wield the holy knives, was now strained as a portion of it was sacrificed. His holy energy was exhausted as well, and his wings were shattered. Right now, he has nothing to fight back with.

All that remained in him was the raw, animal instinct to preserve his life.

Surviving is best.

One day in the future, he could hunt Rex again and succeed.

As long as he survives… he can repay this humiliation a hundredfold in the future.

“Look at you…” Rex tilted his head and grinned, watching Stelios scrambling away—like a cockroach. No longer dignified and mighty as he was half an hour ago. “Where are your manners? If other Angels saw you like this, where would you put your face?”

Swish—!

Rex chased after Stelios.

He was far slower than he was at peak, but even then, he was much faster than Stelios right now.

Glancing over his shoulder, Stelios’ face paled at the sight of Rex galloping like an animal.

It was frightening.

Clang!

Rex pounced forward, reaching his claws ahead.

Seeing this, Stelios leaped away, but his foot was struck by the claws, which knocked him off balance.

He crashed and rolled across the ground.

Once he opened his eyes, Rex was already above him.

Instinct took over in that moment. Stelios curled his body, aiming both of his feet skyward—and drove them into Rex’s chin in a desperate, powerful kick. The impact met not flesh, but something like forged stone, hurting him more than it did to Rex.

Even though the blow knocked Rex’s head back a little, it wasn’t nearly enough to break the momentum.

Crack—!

Stelios gritted his teeth in pain when his side was struck.

His armor cracked open, exposing his unprotected body inside.

Rex’s eyes flashed at the weak spot.

Panicked, Stelios’ hand shot to the pouch at his waist.

He plunged his hand inside, grabbed a handful of its contents, and flung it directly into Rex’s face.

It was pure enchanted silver dust.

It hit like a swarm of burning needles, searing Rex’s eyes and clawing down his throat.

Not to mention, his regeneration was also still incredibly weak.

“You’re sluggish,” Evelyn used her luna energy to flick the dust away as she stood beside Rex, looking at him in confusion. “You’re fighting like an animal. His movements are riddled with weakness, and I am sure you can see them, too.”

Rex is the best at close-quarter combat.

Nobody in the Mortal Realm was his match due to his sheer experience of countless battles to the death.

Dealing with Stelios in his condition should be easy.

“I’ll kill him how I want,” Rex said, eyes glowing molten gold. “Don’t meddle.”

Hearing this, Evelyn frowned as it felt like she was talking to someone else.

But her attention was pulled to the side, sensing someone on the side.

Rex should also sense this figure coming—but from the looks of it, he somehow doesn’t.

Since Rex was going to do it his way, she decided to step to the side.

Not too far away, Empress Morgana watched what was going on and clenched her fists hard.

It was starting to become bleak for the Archangel of Knives and her.

“I have to intervene,” She muttered inwardly. preparing to make a move. “Even if he curses me later, I have to help him right now.”

“No, you don’t have to help him,” A voice stopped her dead in her tracks.

Empress Morgana turned to the side and saw a figure emerging from the distance, a woman, or perhaps more than that. She narrowed her eyes and realized that it was one of the figures that manifested beside Rex earlier.

One of the members of the Silverstar Pack.

Her walk was elegant, almost like she was floating. Her gaze was steady and calm, like she was purely detached from worldly matters. And the air she carried around her, Empress Morgana felt like both weren’t that different.

It was obvious that this figure was the Luna, and perhaps an empress too in the Mortal Realm.

“What did you say…?”

“I said, you don’t have to help the Archangel. No need to involve yourself further.”

Seeing Evelyn holding her chin high before her, Empress Morgana’s expression was ashen.

Only a few are allowed to do that on this continent, and Evelyn is not one of them.

“Do not be mistaken, I am stronger than the Archangel of Knives in this realm. I can kill you easily.”

Evelyn offered a faint, elegant smile.

“Let us leave the contest of brute force to those who revel in it,” She said, and gestured toward the battle behind with her hand. Her voice was a calm counterpoint to the thunder of the cataclysmic battle. “We, I think, should be more… sensible.”

Hearing this, Empress Morgana’s eyes narrowed.

It seemed Evelyn knew about her, knew that she was the empress of the empire that owned this land.

“The tide is settling,” Evelyn continued, cupping her hands elegantly below her navel. “Would it not be wiser to talk and discuss where you will stand when the inevitable conclusion arrives? You don’t want to be on the wrong side.”

Empress Morgana swallowed her anger.

A thread of cool condescension, fine as silk and just as cutting, was woven through every word.

She could tell that Evelyn was already assuming that Rex’s side was the winning side, and it’s infuriating.

But exploding in rage would be a blow to her ego.

It’s not an empress-like reaction, and Empress Morgana couldn’t have that.

Not in front of another empress.

“What are you suggesting?”

“I’m suggesting you stand down and let everything play out.”

“And why would I do that?”

Empress Morgana raised a brow; she couldn’t even think of a reason why she would want to do that.

Doing that would only benefit Rex’s side, not hers.

“Exactly how are you going to explain this to the emperor?” Evelyn turned to look at the destruction all around them. A kind of scene that couldn’t be explained—especially the remnants of energy that would be left behind. “If I were to lie to the emperor and were found out, there would be no saving me. And I’m certain it’s the same case for you, isn’t it…?”

“Perhaps the emperor will spare me out of love, but what about the others?” She continued.

Of course, it was true for Empress Morgana, too.

If Emperor Dominar knew that she was lying, then she would be in immense trouble.

And even if she could coax Emperor Dominar to pardon her, what about the others? The nobles? Those who worked for the royal family, like Kaine? She would never be able to retain her position—especially when it hadn’t been that long since she was accepted.

“If you stand down, then I’ll have Rex support you in covering this up,” Evelyn offered.

Empress Morgana raised a brow, “How can you even guarantee that? How can you persuade him?”

Hearing this, Evelyn tilted her head.

Her lips curled a little into a mocking smile.

“I wield real power inside my empire,” She raised her hand—almost like she was holding the empire in her hand. “Perhaps my approach was wrong, and now you misunderstood that we’re on the exact same boat. No, we’re not. Forgive me for not being clear, but I’m not a disposable empress like you.”
