Chapter 1760: Bloodline of Royalty
Chapter 1760: Bloodline of Royalty
In the Tomb of Heroes, Amanir was working as quickly as possible.
He had one specialty, and he was not going to fail.
Empress Morgana was in his way earlier, and there was no way he could go through her forcefully, as she was stronger and also wore powerful artifacts that made even attempting to fight her futile. But he has a window now.
Rex got in the way and took Empress Morgana with him.
It was unclear whether Rex recognized Amanir’s situation or if he simply had another thing in mind.
Either way, this was an opportunity for Amanir, and he wasn’t going to waste it.
Through the hammering shockwaves from above—waves the Tomb of Heroes did little to blunt, Amanir dragged the heavy chests with his ears. One, the longer one, contained the Maw of Oblivion, while the other held the Phoenix Feather Rex so desperately needed.
He dragged it to the dome where the Angel Origin’s corpse was.
Rex somehow broke the barrier earlier.
He saw it with his own two eyes, but the dome still has protective capabilities.
Being in there was a lot better for Amanir than being out in the central platform.
Once inside, he immediately went to lockpick the one containing the Phoenix Feather.
“If this escalated, Rex wouldn’t be able to get his hand on the Phoenix Feather again,” Amanir thought aloud, shaping his ears into two picks to force open the chest. “Even if he killed that Archangel, there’s still Empress Morgana.”
Amanir knew that this wouldn’t end with the Archangel of Knives’ death.
And Rex couldn’t hurt Empress Morgana badly lest he trigger something on her that’ll make him the enemy of the empire. The answer was to either incapacitate Empress Morgana—or Amanir, stealing the Phoenix Feather right now.
From the two options, the latter was far easier to do.
Blitz!
Upon putting the picks into the lock, a current of energy zapped Amanir’s ears badly.
It scorched his ears despite them being coated with enough life energy.
“I need something strong enough to protect my ears from that energy,” Amanir gritted his teeth, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to endure it long enough to lockpick the lock. “The Angel Origin… The Angel Origin!”
Frantically, Amanir moved to the golden shrine where the Angel Origin’s corpse lay earlier.
No protection remains after Rex forcefully took the sanctified corpse.
Amanir’s eyes ignited—there, draped beside the bier, was a cloak of woven silk.
Its very threads hummed with a dense confluence of life and holy energy.
“I knew it!” The exclamation tore from him in a rush of vindication. His hand shot out, snatching the fabric. It felt warm—like captured sunlight. “No chance the Angel Origin’s rest would be without its guardians.”
Going back to the chest again, he did the same thing.
But this time, the silk cloak covered his ears.
Blitz!
Just like earlier, the energy currents zapped his ears hard, but the cloak blocked most of its power.
It was still painful, but manageable.
Amanir immediately went to work, fully focused on opening the chest.
…
A few miles away from the Tomb of Heroes, the Shade Shaman and about a dozen Shade Crawlers were traversing through the Black Rift—following the scent of the mysterious figure. It has been about two minutes since the Black Rift cleared away.
Not having the chaotic wind around made them feel uncomfortable, but they pressed forward.
Of course, the Shade Shaman knew about this place.
In the past, this place was once sacred for many, but its hard-to-reach location made it hard to maintain the place.
Every maintenance was a sacrifice; a cost paid in lives their dwindling population could not afford.
And as expected, the place was soon abandoned.
Regardless of the significance this place bears for the Spirits, the mysterious figure’s scent was thick here.
Moreover, the ground was shaking multiple times—the Shade Shaman counted at least eleven times in the last two minutes. A battle was clearly happening ahead, and it was certainly the mysterious figure who was fighting against someone.
She couldn’t quite determine his opponent as the energy was odd.
But it was familiar, an energy that she had sensed in the past, especially with the golden sky above.
’Now… Let me see what kind of being you really are. Either way, you’re going to co—’
BOOM!
A thunderous explosion resounded.
It shook the ground so hard that the entire world felt like it was collapsing.
Two Shade Crawlers immediately spawned right before her and stabbed their claws to the ground.
Both of their bodies turned into shadowed silhouettes, blocking the oncoming rush of shockwave that threatened to push the Shade Shaman back. Having to deal with Voidal Princes and Voidal Monarchs on a daily basis, this was nothing for the Shade Crawlers.
However, it did surprise them to see such a cataclysmic explosion.
After all, the mysterious figure and his foe have an aura that amounts to the early Eternal Spirit rank.
Not nearly strong enough to produce this kind of explosion.
All of them tensed their bodies, preparing to advance through the rushing shockwave, assuming it would soon be only the fading echo of the blast. They were wrong. The first shockwave was merely a herald, an exasperated sigh before the scream.
A heartbeat later, the true cataclysm arrived.
It erupted.
KABOOM!!
Each one of them watched as the air crystallized into a wall of pure force, striking with a thunderous crack that was less a sound and more a physical annihilation. The pressure was a hammer against their bodies, and the deafening roar popped the delicate bones in their ears.
Silence flooded the void left behind, ringing not with sound but with pure disorienting pain.
Growl!
Painful growls tore through their throats.
Some of the Shade Crawlers reached for their ears to cover them, and others were slightly pushed back.
The Shade Shaman’s body blazed with healing moonlight energy, helping the Shade Crawlers to quickly heal their eardrums. Simultaneously, the edge of the distant formation shattered, turning into rubble as an object shot toward them.
A projectile outpacing its own sound and fury.
It created a sharp, high-pitched sound that irritated the ears before the crash.
Crash!
Every single Shade Crawler froze.
Almost like an instinctual reflex that was summoned from the deepest part of their beings.
Not even the Shade Shaman was an exception to this.
Silence filled the void in the area until a guttural, baritone low chuckle resounded.
It was at that moment that the Shade Crawlers and the Shade Shaman came to a realization.
What they thought was a projectile earlier turns out to be a living being
One of the beings who was fighting, maybe.
But as they took their breaths, their eyes widened when they caught a potent, unmistakable aroma that was familiar. It was the same scent that had drawn them to come to this place in the first place. And that could only mean this being was the one they were searching for.
“How do you like that, Kaiser…?”
“I can even summon your pets now. Does it anger you? It’s only a matter of time before I replace you.”
Slowly, the silhouette that crashed to their center rose from the ground.
’I came to see the kind who slipped into this world.’
Feeling the aura coming from the figure a few steps away from her, the Shade Shaman’s eyes widened completely. Her entire body was shaking from head to toe. It was involuntary, like something deep in her recognized the danger she was in right now that her senses could not.
’His scent was different. There was a flaw to it that doesn’t belong to us.’
Her body tightened; she was actively trying to remain as still as possible, exactly like a statue.
Even taking in another breath was no longer within her capabilities.
All her instincts were screaming at her to stay still.
Absolutely still.
’But this… this ferocity, this fury… this is no impostor.’
Smoke from the crash still loomed over them, covering the being that crashed not too far away behind her. It was growling. Chuckling. And there was also the disturbing sound of flesh knitting back together. It was regenerating.
That explosion from earlier hurt this thing, but it was now regenerating.
Everyone could hear its body stitching back together.
It was the kind of regeneration speed that was unfathomable for many of their kin.
“Look at us now, Rex. This is what no restraint really gave us.”
“Anger has always been our friend, but you have always unconsciously suppressed it. Now that the restraint is off, we’re unstoppable.”
Once the smoke cleared, the view of the monster that crashed amidst them was revealed.
A massive Werewolf that towered even in comparison to the Shade Crawlers.
Claws of black steel that could cut through the heavens.
Eyes so red they looked like two pearls of blood.
Canine fangs so sharp that they could rend the flesh of Demigods easily, for certain.
And curving horns adorned its head to signify royalty.
The Shade Shaman looked up at the two Shade Crawlers before her—like her, they were also trying so hard to remain as still as possible. Neither dared to move, but their bodies were shaking visibly, teetering on making a move.
She looked to the side with her eyes alone and saw that the others were also in the same state.
A single, primal instinct had gripped them all that made their bodies tremble.
It was at that moment; the Shade Shaman gave the other Shade Crawlers one instruction telepathically.
Don’t move.
Thud!
She kept repeating that same instruction, hoping that the others would truly listen to her.
Like a mother telling their children something that they shouldn’t do.
Don’t move.
Don’t any of them dare move.
Thud!
The Shade Shaman saw the creature walking past her, ignoring her and the other Shade Crawlers.
Like they weren’t high enough for this creature to see.
Many would be furious if someone didn’t even bat an eye at them, treating them like air, like they were not someone worthy enough to be recognized. But at this moment, the Shade Shaman was grateful that this creature didn’t bat an eye towards them.
She could feel the moonlight energy stored within her was shuddering.
If she tried using it to attack this creature right now, it wouldn’t work.
The moonlight energy wouldn’t listen to her.
And that alone made one thing clear for the Shade Shaman.
’The kin who stumbled upon our world isn’t random kin,’ She thought inwardly. ’He is from royalty.’
’A royal bloodline coursed through his veins.’
Crack!
Rex propelled himself skyward like a launching rocket, heading straight towards the heavens.
His claws sank deep into the hovering bubble, a sphere swollen—with the energy of millions sacrificed, a sacrifice demanded by the monster who wore an Archangel’s title. For a fleeting moment, his crimson eyes softened at the sight of her condition.
But it was drowned an instant later, swallowed by the scorching tide of anger and determination.
Bam!
A clawed strike rammed onto the barrier, fueled with the Inevitable Death.
Crack!
Another followed; it was harder this time, cracking the surface of the bubble.
Rex kept going and going, striking the bubble dozens of times in a matter of seconds.
He clawed, bit, and even headbutted the bubble like a lunatic while watching the energy points shown through the System dropping significantly with each strike. Now that his Blood Moon Echo was active, there was no longer a limitation on the Inevitable Death.
Blood was endless from the Blood Moon Echo.
And right now, he could use the Inevitable Death repeatedly—as much as he wants.
Rex charged his right arm back, and with a guttural growl, he slammed his claws against the bubble for the last time and shattered it into countless fragments that evaporated instantly. He gently caught April’s body and stared hatefully at the chaos sword piercing her chest.
“Unlike Rex, seeing you like this only made me angrier,” Rex said raspingly. “And unlike Rex, I won’t pull anything back. I will make him pay.”
