Chapter 1626: Unhinged Savior (1)
Chapter 1626: Unhinged Savior (1)
As time slowed down, the captain watched as the bubble caved with a dull crack.
Fissures branched outward like veins before it shattered.
Crash!
Magical fragments twisted inward, the pressure snapping them loose before they blasted inward like a rain of bullets. Instinctively, the captain shielded the Seeker, putting his body in the way as the sound of sharp, rushing wind crackled through the air.
Chaos ensued.
Soldiers drew their weapons and summoned their Soul Artifacts.
But the shadow was faster.
A loud hiss reverberated through the air as it twisted violently, swiping dozens of soldiers off their feet and cracking the ground from its march. Screams haunted the area as soldiers were hacked away, thrown far, and crashed hard against the ground.
Dozens died in an instant.
Splinters of their cracked armor scattered around along with their lifeblood.
Glancing over his shoulder, the captain saw a serpent that slithered like a living shadow.
Its scaled body stretched into the Black Rift—even its tail was nowhere to be seen. Jagged spines ran down its back, and its berserk eyes gleamed with cold intent—as it climbed upward, towering, unleashing a hiss that rattled the round.
Almost instantly, the captain drew his sword and summoned a blue chain that coiled around the hilt.
“A Voidal Knight! Prepare to battle!!”
Upon his roar, the soldiers immediately surrounded the entry point, their weapons pointed at the serpent.
A formation of soldiers stationed behind immediately launched their attacks, throwing volleys of Spirit Genesis at the serpent without restraint. Colorful blasts and explosions resounded as the serpent coiled, protecting itself from the assault.
“Can you fix the hole?” The captain turned to the Seeker.
“Yes,” She nodded, eyes already fixated on the breach. “But you need to get that serpent out first!”
Hearing this, the captain nodded his head right when the serpent shifted to attack.
It didn’t care about going on the defense for long.
Attacking the soldiers would ensure its safety.
A simple tail whip would certainly send the formations into disarray, and it did exactly that.
Swoosh!
Its tail whip was halted mid-track.
Confused, the serpent looked down and saw that the captain got in the way.
He anchored himself to the round and took the full force of the tail whip, his boots carving trenches into the earth as he slid sideways. But he held firm. Glaring at the serpent, he sprang directly toward its head, gripping his sword tightly in both hands, ready to strike.
“Spirit Genesis: Brave Thrust!”
Responding to his command, the chain glowed and coated the blade with immense life energy.
Boom!
A concentrated thrust landed squarely on the serpent’s head—the life energy blasted from the tip of the sword, blasting the serpent back into the Black Rift with a painful hiss. It was thrown out of the bubble again, back to where it belongs.
Above, the Seeker had already begun repairing the bubble all she could.
It wouldn’t be a permanent solution, but it would make do by now.
On the other hand, the soldiers on the back row began dispersing the black wind that managed to get inside with their life energy. Now, all of them were looking at the captain as if he were not human. His guts are really sensitive and accurate.
But the chaos hadn’t passed; the captain could feel it in the pit of his stomach.
“More?!” He brandished his sword and charged when he saw the pair of eyes again. “I’ll give it to you!”
“Captain, no!” The Seeker called him urgently.
But it was already too late.
“Spirit Genesis: Brave thru—”
As the captain lunged mid-air to thrust his sword a second time, his pupils dilated—the moment he neared the serpent’s eyes, a chilling realization struck him. He was incredibly… small. He had already felt so tiny before the serpent’s towering form, but now, in the shadow of this unblinking gaze, he felt utterly minuscule.
Not to mention, this pair of eyes… it was different than the one he saw earlier.
Regardless, he gritted his teeth and struck.
Clang!
His eyes widened completely when the sword in his hand snapped like a twig against rock.
Just the sheer rippling force from the impact sent a spark up his arms, stunning his nerves as if he used his blade against solid bedrock. His muscles screamed, his grip faltered, and a very sharp, numbing pain rattled his bones—knocking the sword out of his hands.
’It’s—It’s not the same serpent?’ The captain looked up in horror. ’It’s not the same one?!’
Boom!
Like flames, the serpent’s aura sizzled across its form, lighting what was hidden by the darkness.
A massive titan capable of coiling around a small mountain layered with glinting obsidian hide.
Its head alone was the size of a medium-sized house, crowned with horns and lashing tentacles.
Upon seeing this, the captain’s expression immediately lost all color as he realized what he was dealing with right now. It wasn’t a mere Voidal Knight like the serpent earlier. Perhaps this one had eaten the earlier serpent.
“A Special… Voidal Knig—hurgh!”
Before the captain could react, one of the tentacles struck him with the force of a Master Immortal Spirit rank. His armor immediately caved—and his body inside was crushed as he was hurled like a bullet, flying past the soldiers until he crashed to the outer ring.
Silence enveloped the entire space.
All eyes looked at where the captain had crashed onto in shock and horror.
A Master Immortal Spirit 2 rank was swatted away like he was nothing.
Blinking, the Seeker’s pupils dilated, “Captain!!”
HISS!
Mercilessly, the Special Voidal Knight unleashed a thunderous roar that shook the earth like a localized quake. Cracks spiderwebbed across the breach in the bubble—and the shockwave hurled every soldier nearby like ragdolls, including the Seeker, scattering them as if they were nothing.
Giving no time for them to recover, the Special Voidal Knight entered.
Alongside it was the force of a hundred voidal monsters, invading the bubble like a pouring tide, and that number was only growing rapidly. Some of the soldiers bravely stood in the way, but bravery alone wouldn’t be able to stop the charge.
As it slithered forward, the Special Voidal Knight blinked and fixed its eyes on the outer ring.
It could sense a concentrated space of life energy hidden behind the outer ring.
An amount that would surely push it to greater heights.
Rumble!
From atop the outer ring, the soldiers staggered as the ground underneath them trembled.
But falling was the least of their worry right now when they witnessed something horrifying.
Dust rained down from the force of the captain’s body slamming into the outer ring like a tossed ragdoll, followed by a stunned silence. None of them could believe what they were seeing. It was calm earlier, but now, the captain was knocked out of the bout.
Just a heartbeat later, the soldiers looked up.
And every breath hitched.
Seeing the incoming spectacle, their eyes widened, their throats grew dry, and their bodies stiffened.
No one spoke, but the realization struck all at once.
Earlier, they dismissed the captain’s gut feeling as paranoia, but now, what he was worried about exactly happened. A Special Voidal Knight was coming their way—with extreme speed, slithering like a living nightmare.
An armored titan, its serpent body weaving through the landscape like a train of doom.
Its movement split stone and devoured the earth in its path.
Realizing how dire the situation was, with the Special Voidal Knight that was at least at Master Immortal Spirit 1 rank, possessing physical prowess beyond normal means—ten soldiers broke into motion with no hesitation.
All ten of them leaped from the outer ring in perfect sync, cloaks whipping in the wind.
Crash!
Despite landing hard against the cracked round below, they recovered quickly.
From their belts, they drew cross-shaped artifacts and stabbed them into the earth with purpose.
Swoosh!
A shockwave of light burst from the contact point.
One after another, the artifacts ignited, coming to life with power.
A low hum began to vibrate through the air.
Then, the earth pulsed.
All ten artifacts flared, firing a beacon of light skyward, forming a new dome of shimmering energy around the outer ring. A second bubble in case of an emergency. But this wasn’t a simple bubble; the cross-shaped artifacts were a part of a single artifact split into ten.
It came from a powerful artifact passed down from their ancestors.
One of the Insarka Bubble’s trump cards.
Quickly, the cross-shaped artifacts sank deeper into the soil, latching onto the buried veins of power from the Obelisk of Life. The bubble thickened, wrapping the air around it, sucking life energy directly from the land.
Still, it wasn’t enough.
Against a Special Voidal Knight, it wasn’t enough.
Every soldier gritted their teeth and stretched their hands forward to the glowing barrier.
Sparing nothing at all, they poured their own life energy into the second bubble, their skin paling visibly, but none of them stopped. Not when this was their final stand to protect their lives, their families, and their home.
Swoosh!
Noticing the second barrier, the people within the outer ring began to realize that something was wrong.
It didn’t take long before they realized that they were under attack.
Some were panicking, but a huge chunk of others lifted their hands and infused their life energy into the second bubble, helping the military with whatever they could. No matter how small their contributions were, it was still better than nothing.
The Special Voidal Knight saw the barrier.
And it only moved faster.
With a shriek like grinding metal, the titan blurred into motion—a streak of shadow and fury tearing across the plain. Its voidal aura surged violently, dark energy pulsing in waves as its coiling tentacles spiraled inward—twisting its entire serpentine body into a whirling lance of pure annihilation.
Time seemed to slow in the eyes of the soldiers, until the impact happened.
KABOOM!
Despite pouring their all, the initial impact immediately cracked the second bubble.
Half of the soldiers stationed on the outer ring vomited blood and hurled away, drastically diminishing the second bubble’s durability. And hardly a few seconds later, their last line of defense broke, and the Special Voidal Knight broke through.
Crash!
Some of the soldiers who held on looked down the outer ring and screamed.
Not even stopping for even a second, the Special Voidal Knight drilled into the outer ring’s body and emerged on the other side, right within the heart of the Insarka Bubble. People screamed when the head of a titan serpent emerged.
Countless people nearby passed out as its aura was too dense for them to bear.
Atop the outer ring, the soldiers saw that the Black Rift was approaching closer like a tide of dark smoke.
Inside the confines of the Insarka Bubble, the Special Voidal Knight’s power was restrained—but once the Black Rift reclaimed control, its full strength would return. And when it did—the bubble, along with its people, wouldn’t stand a chance. No… perhaps, their end had already begun.
“Raagh!!”
“I’ll kill you, monster!”
Soldiers dropped down from the outer layer in a frenzy.
Rage had consumed them as they tried attacking the Special Voidal Knight’s body that was still mostly outside, to no avail. One pulse from its aura—and the soldiers were burned into bones, drained of their life energy.
None of them could stop the Special Voidal Knight from getting all the way inside.
Until suddenly, the soldier who was watching helplessly with a broken sword dangling from his grip noticed a disturbance to the side. Within the approaching Black Rift, the voidal monsters had begun to squeal, their cries sharp and pained, as if something within was tormenting them.
A pair of crimson eyes eventually appeared.
Swoosh!
Before the soldier could blink, a shadowy figure reached the Special Voidal Knight’s tail.
It was pulled along as the Special Voidal Knight was still too strong.
However, it stopped when the shadowy figure planted his feet against the outer ring.
And now with a firm anchor, it yanked hard.
Crash!
