Chapter 1549 - 1549: Amicable Conclusion
Rosa tried to remain calm, but she couldn’t.
Almost two days ago, the three heirs who were teleported back home suddenly.
All of them told her what happened.
The Singing Lady was stronger than anticipated, capable of even surviving Rex’s strongest attack.
Even though Crimoria and Viora were still with him, Rosa wasn’t worried, the two of them could handle themselves and return back safely. If Rex somehow died in the battle against the Singing Lady, it would be a shame, but not necessarily a bad thing.
If Rex died, then that means he wasn’t strong enough to make a deal with someone like her.
End of the story.
However, moments after that, Viora reported to her that the Singing Lady turns out to be a Favored, attracting the Black Rain to appear. Naturally, Rosa felt a little bit guilty as the test shouldn’t be that hard, and it was unfair for Rex.
Despite that, Rex was able to take the Singing Lady down.
Rosa was taken aback and laughed inwardly at the news.
It seemed as she expected, Rex was someone capable, beyond good enough to make a deal with her.
But the surprise didn’t end there.
Viora came with another news—telling her that Rex was attacked by an unknown entity that was even stronger than the Marquess. Crimoria died, and April was almost killed. Someone that powerful being attracted to Rex was already a flag that Rosa couldn’t ignore.
From the start, she knew that Rex was shrouded in mystery.
She wasn’t quite able to put a finger on it, but Rex was different, special.
And her assumption was reinforced when Viora shockingly said that Rex was able to fend off that powerful being, and was now going to train—inside the Forsaken Tower, which turns out to contain a fragment of the Time Echo.
Rosa told Rex to go to the Mahkam Ruin to test him.
But now, with each shocking news, it was almost as if she was the one being tested.
Tested whether she was capable of making a deal with someone like Rex.
Initially, Rosa was taking Rex lightly, but the moment she got Viora’s report, she took him seriously.
‘Even the second favor, to give my daughter a gift, was an excuse,’ Rosa thought inside as she stared at Rex with shaky eyes. Her throat was as dry as a desert—forcing her to swallow her saliva discreetly to avoid Rex sensing her anxiety. ‘I asked him to do that because I’m not ready, I haven’t even started to do my end of the deal.’
‘I needed the time,’ She pinched the edge of her dress. ‘And he came way faster than I thought.’
Since she implied that the gift was for her beloved daughter, she was expecting Rex to take days.
Finding a suitable gift for her daughter should be hard.
But Rex did it in an instant, and she was barely able to make it in time with her end of the deal.
She utilized her elite forces to gather these locations.
And now, as if the universe wasn’t on her side, Rex got his hands on that news.
On the fact that the Marquess Hadrian was having a small problem, a considerable problem with Duke Lorcan.
It was a disaster for Rosa.
Rex, with his highly sensitive senses what she was experiencing inside.
He could easily sniff her anxiety through her strong front.
“What do you say?” Rex asked, tilting his head. “My generosity is surely worth an honest answer.”
“I do not want things to escalate between us—Lord Rex,” Rosa finally opened her mouth once she was able to form the appropriate answer inside her head. “However, refrain from the use of threats. I am still the lady of the house, and if threatened, the house will retaliate with full force.”
“Then we have an agreement,” Rex finally put on a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
Rosa nodded her head before she reached out her hand.
“Since I’ve fulfilled my part of the deal, it’s time for you to show me yours.” She demanded.
Upon hearing this, Rex nodded his head and sat back on the sofa again, where Amanir was rubbing his face with his ears, grateful that things didn’t go entirely south. “I don’t know which daughter you were talking about, so I’m not quite sure if this will be compatible with her or not, but I got her this.”
From the inventory, Rex summoned the Sea-type Nine-kindred Dragon Echo.
Seeing this, Rosa couldn’t hide her shock.
Rex was actually giving her a Unique Echo, one that even the older generations would kill to obtain.
Even the people inside the room, loyal as they were, couldn’t help but steal glances at the Echo.
For a brief moment there, Rosa couldn’t quite reach for her words—she kept staring at the glowing orb of light that swirled with incredible power. It swirled like a ball of water, and the sound of the waves in it crashing against each other soothed her ears.
It was undoubtedly a Unique Echo, a considerable one, too.
Blinking her eyes, Rosa eventually fixated back on Rex.
“Then, I accept this gift,” She finally said, pulling the Echo her way. “And from today onward, I assure you, Lord Rex, I will be in good faith. No more surprises. No more underhanded methods. I’ll fulfil the deal between us exactly and make sure everything goes smoothly for you.”
Sensing that she was being genuine, Rex smiled and stood up again.
He reached out his hand for a handshake.
Rosa stood up too, but she stared at Rex’s hand in confusion, not knowing what he wanted.
“Shake my hand,” Rex clarified. “It’s a good gesture back in my realm. A gesture of trust.”
Returning the smile, Rosa accepted Rex’s hand, bonding their teamwork for good.
“Finally, it ended well…” Amanir commented from the side, sighing in relief.
But then, as he turned to Kraken, Amanir was surprised to see him crossing his tentacle arms, pouting.
“Really? You’re mad because things ended amicably?” Amanir shook his head helplessly. “You really are a monster.”
“Hey, he’s not a monster,” Rex argued, glaring at Amanir. “He’s only different.”
“Whatever you say…” Amanir waved his ears, clearly not wanting to entertain this conversation.
Just like that, Rex and Rosa finally came to an amicable agreement.
Rex didn’t trust her initially, but for some unknown reason, his guts told him that she could be trusted.
Her expression changed for the better when she saw the Sea-type Nine-kindred Echo.
I think I made the right choice in going back to grab that Echo.
Inside, Rex was pleased as that seemed to do the trick with Rosa.
Of course, that didn’t shake the bad news that Marquess Hadrian has a problem with Duke Lorcan, but at least Rex could trust her with these locations. He didn’t need to care about reaching the Eternal Spirit rank, or at least not now.
All he needed to do was amass as many Nightfall Stars as he could to prepare for his next breakthrough.
That’s the perk of having an Imbalanced-type Spiritual Vein, he could dedicate one moment to reach the next rank, as long as he has the resources to do so. I’ll think of a way to ask for that favor from the Duke later. Now, I’ll focus on marrying Princess Davina.
“Oh… Before you leave,” Rex called, stopping Rosa at the door. “Can you keep our meeting a secret?”
Rosa paused, then, one corner of her lips curled, “Of course, I have no plans on telling this to anyone.”
“Not even to the Marquess.”
“Lord Rex, that’s quite a demand. The Marquess needed to know everything that was going on.”
“I have my own reasons. The Marquess can’t know about this meeting, and about me.”
For a second, Rosa stared at Rex, studying him.
But eventually, she nodded her head, “Very well. I’ll silence the people who were present, too.”
“Thank you,” Rex nodded in gratitude. “Oh, also, April did a lot better than the others.”
Rosa paused again, but then her eyes flickered with a mysterious gleam.
“She has a heart. In the face of danger, she’s the only one who could remain calm enough to react, and she’s also the most active compared to the others,” He continued, deciding to help April a little in this bubble of family politics. “She’ll surely be a great noble from your house.”
“I understand,” Rosa nodded and turned away. “But please, keep your distance, Lord Rex. After all, you are not staying in this realm for long, and cultivating a relationship would only be harmful for you and those involved.”
“Now, excuse me. I have to arrange for your departure.” She added and stepped out of the room.
Rosa left Rex standing at the center of the room behind.
“She’s not wrong,” Rex scratched the back of his head. “I have to keep my distance.”
From the way Rosa reacted, it seemed she knew that Rex and April spent some time in the tower.
It wasn’t clear whether she knew that Rex and April spent ten years together inside the tower, but she certainly knew that they spent a considerable amount of time. She wasn’t surprised, and she was also quick in reminding Rex about his position.
Above all, Rosa was only helping Rex because he wasn’t going to stay here permanently.
And she made that really clear.
No need. I have to focus on what matters. All of them are waiting for me back in the empire.
Rex went back to his seat and exhaled roughly, deciding not to think about April too much.
His mind then trailed to what he said to Rosa earlier.
Naturally, there was a reason for him to ask her to keep their meeting a secret.
I can’t have the Marquess know about this meeting or me, since I’m afraid he has ears everywhere. I’m sure he knew about Princess Davina trying to find the culprit who destroyed Arcalen House—and that Sea-type Nine-kindred Echo could give me away.
Even though he got Mira on his side, it’s still better to be safe than sorry.
Backed by a house that had trouble with Duke Lorcan was akin to a knife to his chest—but if Princess Davina knew the fact that he was the one who massacred the Arcalen House would be equivalent to a nuke exploding directly on him.
Rex would have no chance of marrying Princess Davina then, so he needed to trace forward carefully.
It’s going to be a delicate matter from here on out.
Just as he was waiting for Rosa to arrange his departure for his hunt, visiting every spot marked on the map, he raised an eyebrow when he noticed something. On the floor, the small eating knife that a maid placed there in case he wanted to eat trembled a little.
“Did you see that?” Rex pointed at the small knife and turned to Amanir in shock.
Amanir looked at the knife in confusion, “See what?”
“It’s moving a bit, but I can’t sense any energy moving it!”
“Are you serious? If there’s no energy moving it or a damn string, then you must be seeing things.”
“Do I look like someone who likes to play around?”
Rex pointed at his own face exasperatedly, putting on a serious look to show Amanir that he was being serious. But seeing that Amanir didn’t believe him at all, he tried scanning the knife with the System, and found that it was only a regular knife.
He was confused when he saw this.
“Am I really seeing things…?” He mumbled aloud.
Glancing at the other maids and even the guards, Rex also found the same look.
None of them seemed to see the knife moving.
But then, as the entire room’s focus was fixated on the knife, it trembled a bit, creating a clinking sound.
For a second there, all of them looked at the knife in shock.
It was not that Rex was seeing things, but he was the one who saw the knife move the first time.
Suddenly, without warning, the knife trembled harder, and under everyone’s gaze, it flew straight at Rex, but Rex managed to catch it before it could puncture his eyes. Seeing that, the room turned silent, their eyes couldn’t break away from the small knife.
“What the fuck…?” Amanir muttered, cutting through the silence like a blade.
