The Evil Bastard of Murim

Chapter 27 - 26: Arrival at Mount Hua (1)

The next day...

The Golden Escort Agency had already gathered in front of the Alliance Branch gate with a huge carriage. There were twenty members of the agency present and most of them were at least first rate martial artists.

“Ohho! Quite the escort you prepared, branch leader.”

“Haha, you flatter me, young master Wolryung. This is nothing.”

Though Yoon Jong said that with a polite smile, inside he was screaming, ‘Just leave this place already, you devil!’

As they gathered near the escort agency Yoon Jong took out a small pouch. Then he extended it toward Wolryung. Wolryung, not understanding why Yoon Jong was giving him a very small pouch, asked with a blank face.

“What is this?”

“It’s a treasure.”

Hearing the word ‘treasure’, Wolryung’s face instantly lit up in excitement. It was clear that he was thinking it was for him. Seeing this, Yoon Jong cleared his throat.

“Ahem, it’s not for you. It’s a treasure of Mount Hua sect. Since you are going there, please deliver it to the leader of Mount Hua on behalf of me.”

“Huh? A treasure of Mount Hua?”

Now that Wolryung gave more attention to it, he noticed that there was a strange scent coming from the pouch. The scent was refreshing though. Well, that wasn’t important.

“But why should I do that? It’s not like we are going to Mount Hua.”

“Huh?”

At the reply of Wolryung, Yoon Jong’s face went stiff in shock.

What was he talking about?

Didn’t Baek Han say they were going to Mount Hua?

Yoon Jong glanced at Baek Han in confusion. Troubled by this, Baek Han cleared his throat, turning his head toward Jin Ho.

“Ah, warrior Jin Ho? Didn’t you say you guys were going to Mount Hua? Is there some misunderstanding?”

“Uh, pardon me.”

Apologizing to Baek Han, Jin Ho approached Wolryung and started whispering in his ear.

“Umm, young master. Since you lost your memory, you might’ve forgotten about it. We were supposed to go to Mount Hua sect to bring your younger sister to the clan.”

“Uh?”

Wolryung looked puzzled by this.

Was there a sister of Wolryung in the novel?

‘I don’t remember anything like that though.’

Wolryung was struggling to recall details from the novel he had read as Kang Junho. In the novel ‘Sword of The Dark Heaven’, Wolryung’s family was hardly mentioned. Since all the core family members died in the very early Chapters the author didn’t even bother to explain much about this family. In fact, it was like the author just used this family as sacrifice material for the Main Character, Ma Jin Ho’s motivation to rise.

“!!!”

Suddenly Wolryung realized something.

‘Ah, now that I think about it, there was a name mentioned about a girl from the Dark Heaven Sword Clan who was a disciple of the Mount Hua Sect. What was her name again...?’

Yeah, right. That’s it.

Looking at Jin Ho, Wolryung said in a tone which sounded like he solved some kind of mystery.

“Are you talking about Ma Soo Ah?”

‘Oh, at least he didn’t forget his sister’s name.’

“Yes, that’s right, young master.”

“I see.”

Wolryung gave a broad smile as he rubbed his neck and looked toward the branch leader Yoon Jong.

“Haha, I’m sorry. I forgot about that.”

Then, he took the pouch from Yoon Jong.

“I’ll deliver it safely to the Sect Leader of Mount Hua. Please rest assured.”

“...”

Though it was good that Wolryung accepted the request. But for some reason Yoon Jong felt like he shouldn’t have given it to Wolryung.

‘Did I make another mistake?’

Despite knowing what Wolryung could do, Yoon Jong had made another mistake.

Well, not that anything could be done now. The pouch had already been handed over to Wolryung. And if Yoon Jong tried to take it back it would seem rude. No matter how much of a trouble Wolryung was, he was still their benefactor. And Yoon Jong couldn’t be rude toward a benefactor like that.

‘Sigh... Let’s just hope that nothing bad happens.’

Yeah, the only thing he could do now was hoping that nothing bad happens which seemed almost impossible.

Qinling Mountain...

“The day of the tournament is almost here. How is the preparation going?”

Inside the sect leader’s hall, all the elders and sect leader Hyun Song were discussing the matter regarding the tournament that wasn’t far away.

“The preparations are all done. But I’m just a bit worried.”

Elder Hyun Mu who was sitting right beside the Sect Leader Hyun Song said in a worried tone.

Hyun Song asked in reply.

“What is the matter?”

“You already know that, Sect Leader. We are all gonna lose this tournament anyway. So, I was thinking why not just cancel it? At least the kids’ morale won’t fall.”

“Indeed.”

The other elders nodded in agreement with Hyun Mu.

“Losing this tournament is bound to happen. We are witnessing it every year. And every year we witness the kids’ morale go down and down. At this rate, forget about recovering our fame or past glory, the sect might face its greatest downfall.”

Hearing those words, Hyun Song couldn’t help but clench his fist to suppress his anger.

What the elders were saying wasn’t wrong. During the great war with the evil faction, Mount Hua sect had suffered the most out of other sects. They lost their former sect leader, all former elders and several first and second generation disciples. Since the Evil Faction held a deep grudge against Mount Hua, they targeted the sect relentlessly even at the cost of losing the war itself. As a result, the Evil Faction also put fire on the library pavilion where the sect’s secret techniques were kept. And since Mount Hua lost all the previous elders along with several first and second generation disciples, those secret techniques couldn’t be restored again.

Hyun Song, without saying anything, looked toward the window from where the sunlight came through and let out a deep breath.

‘What should I do, ancestor?’

He was the sect leader of Mount Hua sect now. But in truth he was far from capable of what a sect leader should be. At least that’s what he thought. A true sect leader never breaks down. But in the case of Hyun Song, he couldn’t find the strength at all. In fact, he never wanted to be the sect leader in the first place. Since he was the only one left strong enough, he had no choice but to shoulder this burden. A sect leader’s burden is to take his sect to the top. But forget about the top, the situation they were in now was a complete mess.

‘I don’t know, what should I do?’

Couldn’t a miracle happen for once?

It would’ve been nice if that happened.

But Hyun Song didn’t know. A miracle was already making its way from Western Sichuan.

No, could it even be called a miracle?

It would fit the word ‘Great Misfortune’ the most.

A great misfortune in the face of a great miracle.
