Chapter 1721: The Mother of the Ice Brood.
Chapter 1721: The Mother of the Ice Brood.
Arad’s fight with the Brood Mother’s mates started, and Gojo didn’t waste a second. He jumped forward and smacked the Brood Mother with one spell, teleporting the two of them away.
In a blinding flash, the two disappeared from the nest as if they never been there before.
It didn’t matter how many times Arad saw his brother use magic; it was always stunning. Even if Gojo had lost all of his draconic power and was just a human, his mastery over magic never disappeared, and he could use what little mana he had with such efficiency that it was terrifying.
Remembering how he found him first in the back sea, floating on an island that he made, Arad was certain that his brother’s maximum output, even without a jackpot, is ridiculously high.
Gojo was a wizard, a mage who studied the arcane arts, mastered spells, and created his own magical circuits and incantations.
In the mortal world, and beside all common classifications of wizards, people saw four different levels of mastery that wizards could have.
The most common one was those who learned spells and used them, which was the majority of all magic users.
Then there were the researchers who used the existing rules to twist magic to their will and create new spells, or optimize the old ones. Arad was at this level, even after all of his efforts.
Then there were those few wizards who had endless knowledge, mastery, and skill, able to birth new spells and even challenge the very will of Yog herself. At this level, Arad only knew one wizard, and he was very lucky to have her as one of his wives. Merlin was at this level, and she never ceased to amaze Arad with her skill.
Then, there were the absolute monsters, those who dared step on Yog’s toes and rip her mana apart with brazen carelessness, those wizards who could create spells powerful enough to kill gods, and those who were so stupidly powerful and talented that the goddess of magic herself had to pester and keep a close eye on them.
Gojo was the only one at that level that Arad knew, and it almost made sense that the Goddess of Magic herself kept sticking around him. He had just demonstrated why she shouldn’t take her eye away from him.
That is why Arad wasn’t worried about Gojo.
Gojo himself didn’t want Arad to get caught up in the chaos, or at least, he didn’t want him to interfere. It was safer for both of them to split, so each could handle their own battle without worry.
The scale of the fight between Gojo and the Brood Mother was bound to be massive, and he didn’t want any of his stray spells to reach or harm Arad, nor did he want the Brood Mother to call for help, so wasting mana on relocating was a must.
As the two landed away, Gojo took a deep breath and looked forward. In front of him was a naked Yog, spreading her legs and calling him in. As he blinked, that scene changed into the Brood Mother’s teeth-filled lower maw.
The ugly horror was there, waiting for him to approach. Her plan was so simple that Gojo could read it like the palm of his hand. She wanted him to get closer, so she could safely paralyze him, then she’ll use him as a seed sack for the coming days, or however long he lasted before dying of starvation and cold.
A bug was bug after all, even at her size.
“Won’t you… Join the Ice Brood?” The massive Brood Mother stared at Gojo, crawling around him as she set her black threads everywhere. With her inescapable net getting laid, she kept trying to taunt him to get closer.
It seems that she can’t deliver a measured, well-calculated dose of her neurotoxin in the middle of a heated fight. Even with her low intelligence, she seemed capable of figuring out how much poison she needed to kill or keep her prey alive.
Gojo looked around, then smiled. “Me? Join your brood?” He looked at her. “That doesn’t sound like a bad idea, but I’m a dragon, do you know that?”
And if she knew better, she would’ve run away before getting the dragon treatment.
He lifted his hands, and magic started swirling around his fingers. He was a dragon, and not just a regular dragon, a void one, a mature adult void dragon.
“I’ll give you three choices. Turn into your humanoid form and submit to me. Die, or stay out of our way.” Walking forward, Gojo’s body started crackling with lightning and light.
Gojo now gave three choices, which should cover all of her needs. If she wanted to be his mate, she must submit. And if she doesn’t want to be his mate, she can choose between death or not getting in his way.
The Brood Mother heard his words and stared at him with a confused flame in her eyes. She understood what he meant and found it insulting.
He had given her three choices.
She can now start fighting him and end up dead.
She can turn around and return to her nest. He would leave her alone, as long as she didn’t attack them again.
Or, she can turn around and shake her butt for him. This is what felt insulting, he is the one who should be submitting to her. She is the queen, the mother of the brood, and he is a nobody, a bald Yeti that showed up out of nowhere with just a bit of talent.
In her eyes, he wasn’t even worth keeping around like her other mates, only to be used and discarded. How dare he challenge her like this? What is this dragon he is talking about?
“A dragon?” The large spider glared down at him, her ugly humanoid face twisting into a mocking smirk. “I’m the mother of this brood, and the ruler of the forest. Do you dare come into my nest and issue orders?”
It was then that the air around them exploded, and the entire place was washed away by a storm. Gojo and the Brood Mother started their fight, and when their magic clashed, it was as if a natural disaster fell upon the world, crushing it beneath their feet.
Not that far away, Arad dodged a massive tiger, then swung his fist down, cracking the monster’s skull open. But then, the tiger regenerated and turned around like a honey badger to bite him.
Arad would’ve been fine if it were the tiger alone, but that wasn’t the case. All of the Brood Mother’s mates were charging at him simultaneously, and all of them were powerful monsters of the same level as the Yeti’s chieftain, if not stronger.
He could see a large bear, a bison, a snake, and a strange mass of flesh that resembled a slime made of intestines, and even a walking pile of rotting bones.
He jumped back with a stern face and then flicked his fingers, sending a blazing [Purple Sun wrath] ball of plasma at the charging monsters.
Purple light washed over the nest, and the shadows violently danced as the ball of plasma flew across, then exploded.
As fire engulfed the nest, Arad retreated a few steps back and lifted his spear up, ready to swing it down at the first horror to escape the flames.
The ground behind Arad exploded into a storm of dust, splinters, and ice, followed by a large maw of teeth and poison. The large snake was after him, and it was a creature of several tens of meters long with a maw wide enough to swallow a camel.
The attack came out of nowhere, and Arad shouldn’t have been able to dodge it with his speed. It would’ve been game over if it were anyone else. But at that moment, his body flew sideways at the last moment, moving at speeds far above what he could normally achieve as a human.
The snake was shocked, and so were all of the Brood Mother’s mates. They all have survived Arad’s blast, but none of them expected him to dodge the snake sneak attack.
Arad landed on one of the largest trees nearby and looked at the monsters with a smile as he started walking up the trunk vertically as if it were normal.
While Arad wasn’t fast on his own, using [Purple Sun Pride] that he got from Eris to create a gravity field, he can pull himself toward objects instead of pulling them toward him as long as they were anchored and he wasn’t.
In result…
Arad disappeared from the tree, shattering its trunk. Before the monsters could reach, one of them exploded into a shower of blood and golden lightning. Arad blitzed past them with a thundering fist, a [Divine Cleaver] had roared through the battlefield.
[Massacre] was already active, and he used [Target] on anyone that he was about to attack to amplify the damage that could be done.
Swinging his arm, Arad unleashed a large, blinding arc of purple plasma for mid-range fighting through [Solar Arc], then used [Purple Sun Pride] for the long-range monsters who preferred to stay away from him, often using [Gravity Well] on those two attacks to throw the monsters all around the nest area.
To add salt to injury, he kept [Skull Hacker] active all the time to crush the monster’s will with an aura of despair and malevolent and murderous intent.
Before long, the monsters stopped feeling like powerful horrors and now felt as nothing more than prey, helpless lambs that found themselves on the butchering table of an emissary of the most vile of gods, an agent of murder, and a paladin of unadulterated savagery.
