Chapter 1712: Who Is Behind It All

Chapter 1712: Who Is Behind It All

Through Eris, Arad could sense a bit of what happened. He did feel her distress, worry, and eventual relief. Gojo, who could directly communicate with Lucy through his dreams, came to Arad’s in the middle of the night to inform him of what happened.

How Greed took over Mira, and how she came back safely after having resisted the portfolio’s drive, and how her father had become a demigod, but still hasn’t fully recovered. Even though he gained too much power, his body and mind would still need some time to adapt and acclimate.

But the part that made Arad mad was when Gojo told Arad that it all started because Amaterasu triggered Mira’s greed. Amaterasu did later explain to Lucy that if left untended too, Greed would’ve slowly taken over Mira’s mind, so someone had to bring it to light. But that conversation happened after Lucy already told Gojo everything.

But now, everything was already done, and Arad had to let go. At least, until he returns to the mortal world, and then he’ll deal with Amaterasu. From what Gojo told him, she seems to be living in her church in his city, having turned the nuns there into her personal servants.

For a moment, Arad questioned why Amaterasu herself would go and settle in the mortal world, but then, he had no way of understanding how a goddess like her thinks.

When Gojo left, Arad returned to Haru and rested by her side, looking at the cold ceiling of the cave. The yetis have retreated to their cavern, and Gojo has built a wall just to be safe. Now, they had to reach the ruined city and set a base there.

“So… Mira is safe?” Haru leaned on Arad and he looked at her with a smile. “Yes, she had a similar bout to what Eris once experienced.” Arad could remember clearly when Eris was first taken over by murder and tried killing him. Luckily, he was nearly immortal at the time and managed to let her vent everything out.

Haru leaned on him and asked, still worried. “Really? I don’t think Eris was ever fine. I wouldn’t call getting an urge to kill, then cutting you apart several times, a healthy mindset.”

He smiled. “A god of something has to embody that something in some way. That fact can’t be changed. But that doesn’t mean the god has to make his whole existence about that one thing.” He looked at Haru. “A god must be able to control their power. A goddess of greed should be able to be greedy, or turn off her greed at will.”

He then shifted his gaze toward her, “And, what about you and Amaterasu?”

She smiled a bit, then rested her head on his chest. “I didn’t finish the shift yesterday. As long as I get in the sun tomorrow, the shift should be done in an hour or two.”

She pulled the fur hide over them and took a deep breath. “Usually, it would take months to switch gods, even if the two gods were friendly or working together. But now, I must have a direct link to the sun to accelerate the process.”

Arad looked at the ceiling, then frowned. “Doesn’t that mean that Amaterasu owns that sun? I thought it was a fake one made by Yog or Entropy’s magic.”

Haru looked at him and then smiled. “I thought the same too because that was the truth. Entropy didn’t have any sun here, and those stars in the sky were the distant worlds.” She then hugged him tighter, “But when Yog created this world, Amaterasu threw a sun above the world, and neither goddess tried to go against it.”

She shivered a bit. “Asmodeus told me that Entropy is madly in love with Amaterasu, as the stars, the suns, are the biggest driver of entropy.”

“Hold up, can’t she just get us out then?” Hearing Arad’s question, Haru frowned. “That’s what I wanted to know, and Asmodeus told me that even she doesn’t know what Amaterasu is thinking.” She looked around, then crawled up to whisper in Arad’s ear.

“I think Amaterasu is the one who asked Entropy to seal us here, but I can’t be sure.” Those words sounded less and less strange when Arad considered that no abominations were found, the entire chaos started from hell, the domain Amaterasu owns, and that she was one of the first to react and took Eris to train, then settled in his city to meddle with his wives.

In fact, many things were strange. Yog is looking for a new Overgod? Where is the current Overgod? Why does it seem like Amaterasu is controlling the entire universe on her own?

She was definitely up to something, and Arad didn’t know if that something was good or bad. He was certain that Amaterasu had the universe’s best interest in mind, but that didn’t mean Arad’s best interest.

Arad then stood, and Haru shifted. “Where are you going?”

He looked at her for a moment, then turned away. “To Gojo, I’ll have him warn everyone through Lucy. They should stay alert and keep an eye on Amaterasu.”

As Arad left, Haru remained in the bed, thinking about everything that had happened, and it was then that she heard a voice ring in her head.

[You think I planned everything, how cute.] It was Amaterasu, and Haru almost shat herself.

“No…I didn’t… It was just…”

[No need to be afraid, you’re right. I asked Entropy to seal Arad and Gojo in Limbo to protect them.] Amaterasu sighed. [The reason is that someone powerful is trying to kill them.]

Haru was a seer, and she had just felt the deep concern and worry in Amaterasu’s voice. The goddess wasn’t lying, and even she was afraid of what was after Arad and Gojo.

“Who… is it that monster Nyar?”

Amaterasu remained silent for a few moments and then spoke. [No, that would’ve been easier to deal with. It is an even bigger threat.]

Amaterasu then remained silent for a long while, then spat those words out.

[The current Overgod, Cain Lisworth, has gone mad and is trying to find Arad and Gojo to kill them.]

That was the last thing Haru expected to hear, and it was horrifying. No wonder Yog was looking for a new Overgod; she must’ve known what happened. But, if the being who controlled the entire universe is what went rogue, how could they hope to stop him?

“You’re powerful, you can stop him, right?” Haru gasped and she could hear Amaterasu burst laughing.

[Me? Defeat him?] She then went silent, [Last time I fought him, and ended up getting clapped and pissed on. When he gets serious, he is far stronger than me. So don’t get your hopes up.]

[The situation is bleak, but I want you to do one thing: keep this a secret from Arad. Cain feeds off knowledge and madness. If Arad knew about him, Cain would know about him back.]
