Chapter 1140 - 1080: The Man Who Won’t Let Go
The son was always close to her, yet Paige saw estrangement and refusal in Dylan’s eyes.
Mother and son hadn’t met for so long, but Dylan would rather stay by Sienna Johnson’s side than hers.
Paige said, "Dylan, come to mommy."
Dylan looked up at his mother, hesitated for a moment, but obediently walked over.
"Dylan, mommy misses you very much." Paige hugged her son and kissed him on the cheek, her love for him undiminished.
Dylan said unhappily, "No, you don’t miss me! If you did, you would’ve come back. I thought you’d never come back."
Sienna Johnson said, "Be good, Dylan. Mommy is back now. Next time mommy travels, I’ll take you with me."
"Dylan, how about we go to the North Pole? You wanted to see the aurora borealis, didn’t you? Mommy’s been there before, and the aurora borealis is beautiful."
Dylan showed a look of longing, glanced at the man sitting next to his mother, then bowed his head and said nothing more.
Paige felt somewhat sad, the sparkle in her eyes disappeared, replaced by a layer of sorrow.
With Shane Albertson around, many things were left unasked. Later, Paige dismissed Shane, leaving the three of them together, talking without reservations.
Adrian Desmond asked, "What’s the deal with that man?"
"Just a painter."
Sienna Johnson asked, "Did you know him since college?"
"Yes."
Adrian found himself unfamiliar with his own sister; he hadn’t known Paige had a short-lived romance before.
"Your ex-husband is Kiya, Sultan of Abyanabad. If you’re thinking of remarrying, find someone formidable enough to rival Kiya. Otherwise, don’t bother," Adrian said.
Kiya’s people had been keeping watch near the Desmond Family in Abyanabad. As soon as Paige appeared, Kiya would be aware.
With Dylan staying at the Johnson Family for so long, Kiya hadn’t sent anyone to take him back, mostly because of Paige.
Kiya realized: as long as Dylan was with Paige, she wouldn’t run away. But if he took Dylan, Paige would vanish without a trace.
"Since he’s an ex-husband, why bring him up?" Paige didn’t want to talk about Kiya.
"Kiya’s keeping watch near the Desmond Family and likely near the Johnson Family too. Now that you’re back, Kiya probably knows.
Your ex-husband doesn’t agree to you remarrying; it’s not easy if you want to get married."
"Brother, who’s side are you on? Why do you always speak for Kiya?" Paige complained.
"I’m just telling you your current predicament. If you’re smart, you’ll understand my words."
Paige’s situation was much like Sienna Johnson’s in the past; Kenneth Brown was too weak to rival Adrian’s power, so Sienna eventually was with Adrian.
"Then don’t get married, just cohabit," Paige said with a hint of defiance.
Sienna Johnson, being the mother, was most concerned about the children. She looked at Paige and asked, "That man doesn’t seem to talk much. If you two get married, can he get along with Dylan?"
"He used to have mild autism.
But he’s a really good person, and we get along great.
Shane is quite slow to warm up to people; it takes him a long time. I believe that for me, he’ll get along well with Dylan." Paige was still confident about her boyfriend.
"What other family does he have?"
"Parents, a brother and sister-in-law, a little niece..."
As the three were speaking, Melly hurriedly came in and said to Adrian,
"Sixth Master, the Sultan has arrived."
The Sultan naturally referred to Kiya, who by now was the Sultan of Abyanabad.
The Royal family of Abyanabad was different from the Brevon Royal Family; Brevon’s Royal Family held no real power while the Abyanabad Royal Family wielded substantial authority.
Kiya wasn’t just the Sultan but also the Minister of Defense, the leader of Abyanabad’s official religion, and to the citizens and the faithful, he was like "a god."
Paige was utterly shocked, "Why is he here?"
Kiya couldn’t go anywhere he pleased; his major engagements needed a month’s advance notice, and his regular activities required at least three days’ preparatory time. Visiting another country needed to be handled with utmost care.
"Speedy, aren’t he?" Adrian joked.
Kiya didn’t give everyone much time to react; he entered with Gary and Gavin, the brothers.
Sally followed closely behind, apologizing, "Sorry, I couldn’t stop them."
Sally didn’t dare to forcefully stop them, knowing that Kiya was the Sultan.
Kiya’s gaze swept across and landed on Paige, where it stayed.
She was still so beautiful, with her slightly frowning brows revealing her displeasure. Kiya coveted her face; he’d almost gone mad missing her.
Adrian waved, gesturing for the others to leave.
Gary and Gavin remained unmoved; their hastily arranged outing violated regulations, and if they left Kiya and something happened, they would be accountable.
"Where did you go?" Kiya asked her with a cold, stern profile.
"Went traveling with my boyfriend... Sultan, aren’t you busy? How come you’re concerned about my private life?" Paige said nonchalantly.
Sienna Johnson stood, saying to Adrian, "Adrian, I’m tired. Help me back to rest."
Paige and Kiya’s relationship issues weren’t something they could resolve; they had to work it out themselves.
"Alright."
...
In the living room,
Paige sat unmoving in a redwood chair, while Kiya stood before her, staring, also unmoving.
"Tell me, what would it take for you to go back with me?" Kiya asked in a low voice.
"I have a boyfriend. It’s calm yet cozy with him. Kiya, there’s no way it’s going to happen between us. Why can’t you just give me a chance to live?" Paige asked sharply.
Boyfriend?
Kiya couldn’t accept it.
"Do you think I don’t want to? If I could let go, I would have long ago."
Kiya stepped forward and hugged Paige; she hadn’t expected him to be so forceful, "Let go of me."
"You left for three months and eight days, not a single word from you, and I felt like I was going mad."
"Sultan, calm down. Let’s talk things over peacefully," Paige said nervously. "You’re not thinking clearly right now; please calm down."
"Call me Kiya!" He clasped her fingers, "I don’t want to hear anything else. I just want to hear you say my name."
At this moment, his eyes carried a frenzy and heat she’d never seen before; Paige watched his slightly parted lips, his constantly moving Adam’s apple, her heart was racing.
"In front of you, I’m not the Sultan or the leader of Abyanabad; I’m simply your Kiya."
He spoke so emotionally that if it were the Paige from years ago, she’d probably be head-over-heels for him.
