Chapter 1128 - 1068: I Like My Brother-in-law (2)
Mother Phillips’ words were practically driving Adrian Desmond to a dead end.
Adrian looked at Sienna Johnson and found her expression extremely unpleasant. He and Sienna were already tense recently. If Sienna suspected he and Samara had an affair, Adrian felt he might as well drop dead.
"What nonsense are you talking!" Adrian shouted at Mother Phillips.
This vile woman, Adrian really wanted to shoot her!
Curly pouted unhappily and said, "Auntie, my daddy belongs to my mommy, how can you like my daddy? If you like my daddy, you’re a homewrecker, a bad woman."
Samara also realized she had misspoken earlier, "I... didn’t mean it like that..."
Seeing everyone staring at her, Samara was scared to tears, too frightened to even explain, hurriedly saying, "I don’t like my brother-in-law anymore."
The more she explained, the worse it got.
The old lady decisively said to the Phillips family, "Kids don’t know any better, speaking nonsense and making you laugh.
We have matters to attend to, so we won’t entertain you anymore."
The Phillips family also understood that such matters had arisen in the Johnson Family and that they couldn’t stay any longer. They exchanged a few polite remarks and got up to leave.
...
After leaving the Johnson Family, in the car, the Phillips family remained silent.
Mother Phillips gossipingly said, "This Johnson Family is really interesting, two sisters fancying the same man."
Noah Phillips solemnly said, "Mom, Samara is pure at heart and still a child. What she means by liking is definitely not romantic."
"What do you know?
You should stay away from those two sisters of the Johnson Family; neither one is any good." Mother Phillips held a fundamental prejudice against Sienna.
"Mom, Sienna and Samara are both good people."
Old Master Phillips spoke up as well, "What’s this about a diamond necklace?"
Neither Mother Phillips nor Noah answered.
Old Master Phillips sternly inquired, "What exactly is going on?"
Noah took all the blame onto himself, saying, "I didn’t know it was a family heirloom at the time and gave it to Sienna. Later, I found out it was inappropriate, and I took it back."
Old Master Phillips glanced at his daughter-in-law, enlightened and understanding everything. He knew the nature of his grandson well, and knew he wouldn’t do such a thoughtless thing.
"Noah, are you even deceiving your grandfather now?"
Noah pleaded, "Grandpa, please don’t ask anymore."
Father Phillips looked at his wife, noticed her evasive gaze, and understood something, asking, "Did Noah give the necklace to Sienna, and you took it back?"
Both Old Master Phillips and Father Phillips looked at Mother Phillips, who nodded honestly.
Old Master Phillips rebuked with exasperation, "How could you do such a thing? Taking back what was given is like slapping Sienna in the face."
"It was meant for our daughter-in-law. How could it be given to that woman?" Mother Phillips justified herself.
"Foolish!"
The situation was irreversible at this point; Old Master Phillips couldn’t do anything about it.
Mother Phillips saw the men’s accusatory looks and defiantly said, "That Sienna got pregnant before marriage; how could we accept such a woman?"
Noah said, "Mom, stop speaking. It’s all in the past now."
The atmosphere sank into silence, and Mother Phillips felt full of grievances. She did all this for her son, for the Phillips family, yet none of them understood her.
Thinking again about the chubby baby Sheehan that Sienna bore, her heart felt even heavier.
Her son’s stubbornness, once decided, wouldn’t change. When would she ever hold her own grandchild?
...
The Phillips family left, while the old lady had Melly and others take the two children away.
In the reception room, only the old lady, Sienna Johnson, Adrian Desmond, and Samara remained.
Samara cried and cried, irritating the old lady.
The old lady shouted, "Stop crying! If you cry again, get out of here!"
Samara immediately stopped crying.
Adrian’s head was pounding; he couldn’t figure out why Samara would say such things, "Don’t misunderstand, there is absolutely nothing between Samara and me. I only have feelings for you!"
Although the two sisters looked alike, Adrian had no thoughts about Samara whatsoever; he just didn’t like that weak and delicate type of woman.
He liked someone like Sienna, someone smart, cunning, strong, brave... If only she could be a bit more optimistic and not spend every day overthinking.
The old lady lectured, "Adrian is your brother-in-law; how could you like your brother-in-law? How have we taught you in the Johnson Family? Not learning well! Learning from those indecent women."
Samara began to cry again, repeatedly saying, "I don’t like him anymore, I don’t like him anymore..."
Sienna felt heavy-hearted, seeing her sister cry like that was hard to bear. She could only vent all her frustration on Adrian.
"Adrian, what exactly did you do to Samara?"
"I did nothing!" Adrian felt gravely wronged.
Sienna’s gaze suggested that he and Samara had an affair. Was he really so devoid of moral principles?
"If that’s not the case, why do you oppose Samara getting married?"
"Because..." Adrian couldn’t betray his brother, stammering and unable to come up with a reason, which made Sienna more suspicious.
"In Abyanabad, polygamy is allowed, but in Orienta, we practice monogamy. Don’t think you can marry Sister and then marry Sister." Sienna said indignantly.
Adrian shouted at Sienna, "Is that what I am in your eyes?"
Sienna kept a stern face, saying nothing.
"Sienna, you ask me to trust you, when have you ever trusted me?" Adrian said disappointedly.
"Adrian, have you ever trusted me?" Sienna choked up.
The old lady was present and so was Samara, so many things were inconvenient to say. Adrian hoped Night Owl’s flirtatious involvement in the matter wouldn’t become public knowledge.
Adrian grabbed Sienna’s arm, taking her away, as the old lady looked worriedly at the quarreling pair, fearing her heart condition might act up.
"Adrian, calm down. Sienna is pregnant." The old lady exclaimed.
Kathryn supported the old lady, seeing her emotional, and quickly fed her a pill, "Madam, please calm down."
"Oh, the calamity! The calamity!"
Samara cried so much she could hardly breathe, her small body trembling in fear, and the old lady glared at Samara, scolding, "You disgraceful thing, get out of here; we don’t want such shameless descendants!"
"Grandma... I don’t like my brother-in-law anymore, please don’t be angry with me."
"Get out! I don’t want to see you!"
"Grandma..." Samara cried until her eyes were swollen, utterly frightened.
Everyone usually spoke to her gently; no one had ever looked at her this way, as if they wanted to devour her.
Kathryn, seeing the old lady emotional, softly told Samara, "Second Miss, return to your room for now; we’ll talk about it later."
