Chapter 1308: The Day Of Reckoning [Part 1]
Chapter 1308: The Day Of Reckoning [Part 1]
As days stretched into weeks, the Defenders and the Rebels repeatedly confronted each other on the battlefield.
The most brutal among them were the ones fought underground, but the exchange of bombardments above ground was nothing to scoff at either.
Castor’s Engineers had modified the cannons of each airship to weaken the shields protecting the city as much as possible, allowing the next bombardment to push through.
Their efforts soon bore fruit, and the main cannons of Castor’s flagship finally managed to pierce through the defenses, hitting several buildings within the capital.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the spot where the beam had hit was deserted.
The people living in the city had long been sent to a shelter far from the battlefield.
And that place was none other than the Arcanis Mountain Range, which the Jinns had used as their Main Headquarters before they moved to the capital.
Since it was near the easternmost region of the continent, it was relatively safe, and those who took refuge there wouldn’t have to worry about being involved in the battle for the throne.
Only the Defenders remained in the city of Velgrande, allowing them to focus on fighting the enemies without having to worry about their loved ones.
Of course, it wasn’t only the Rebels who had also evolved through the past few weeks.
The great minds of Velgrande also developed their own strategy, creating drones that made the post-fighting extremely difficult for the Rebels.
Whenever the battle ended, the airships would retreat fifty miles away from the city.
And every time, the drones made their presence known. Not only could they use kamikaze attacks to explode, but they also had loudspeakers.
What were the loudspeakers for?
They were meant for Pica and Pico, who specialized in dealing emotional damage to their enemies.
It got to a point where Castor had been so enraged that he ordered all Archons to obliterate the pesky drones flying around the airships like flies.
“Castor, if I had a face like yours, I would sue my parents!” Pica’s voice spread in the surroundings as one of the Drones hovered near the flagship. “You know why no one has ever seen God? It’s because after creating you, he’s too ashamed to show his face!”
“Regulus, you can’t make everyone happy. You’re not a taco,” Pico’s voice joined his sister in dealing emotional damage to their enemies. “I am not insulting you, I am describing you!”
The soldiers, the staff, and the engineers on the airships were too busy covering their lips, fearing they would start laughing.
If they were being honest, the antics of the two Pocopocos made their resentment toward the Defenders a bit lower.
Like most employees with a boss, they had many things to say to Castor and Regulus, the majority of which were complaints.
However, since none of them wanted to die, they could only hold it in instead.
The two Pocopocos only targeted their bosses, so they were starting to feel like the pair was speaking on their behalf. If they were being honest, a few of these soldiers wished they could secretly contact the Defenders and seek asylum in Velgrande.
Castor’s crimson face distorted into a mixture of fury and disbelief as the drones zipped through the air, screeching insults with perfect comedic timing.
“You call that a strategy? My grandma fights better in her sleep!” Pica’s voice echoed from the drone above the flagship. “Grandma, I wish you were here. We could have both pooped on two Celestials’ heads. That would have been a story for the ages!”
“Seriously, Regulus, I’ve seen more intimidating sandwiches than your troops!” Pico joined in as one of the drones hovered near the deck of the flagship. “I didn’t realize sarcasm could be weaponized until I met you both!”
The insults kept coming, which frankly taxed the two Celestials more than fighting on the battlefield.
“Castor, you’re like a wifi signal in the mountains—weak, inconsistent, and disappointing!”
“Even a confused hamster would pity your planning skills, Regulus. What did you use when you tried learning how to read? A milk carton box? Whoops! You almost hit my drone. Hahahaha! You dumb old man. Can you even aim properly?! Sucks to be you!”
Although this might sound like something that wouldn’t really bother the two esteemed Celestials, this psychological warfare indeed worked on them.
The reason? It was because, aside from the snarky comments, the two Pocopocos hit the two Celestials where it hurt the most.
And what weapon were they using?
The answer is simple.
The truth.
The truth hurt more than anything, and Pica and Pico were using it to their advantage.
“Imagine wanting to be king because you covet the King’s wife, Queen Miriamele,” Pica said in disdain. “Yuck! Do you also covet Regulus’ wife? Bro, your strike zone is really troublesome.”
Castor flinched when he heard these words. After all, no one knew that he truly desired Queen Miriamele.
Of course, the two Pocopocos were just spouting nonsense. Who could’ve guessed that their ramblings would accidentally hit the spot?
“If any of you soldiers wish to quit, just tell us!” Pico shouted. “We will take you away from this madness safe and sound, satisfaction guarantee!”
“You don’t have to fear these two old dogs! They can’t even see their tails, let alone any of you!”
Having had enough of their nonsense, Castor and Regulus personally flew off the airship to destroy the drones.
But at that exact moment, Rocky’s head emerged from the ground and opened its mouth.
“Adios, Motherf*ckers!” Pica shouted at the same time the magical cannon opened fire.
This cannon was one Thirteen personally developed and could deal serious injuries to a Celestial if they were hit by it directly.
He had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to deal significant damage to either Castor or Regulus, using the insults of Pica and Pico as bait to lure them out of their flagship.
“Damn you!” Castor roared as he hurriedly activated a barrier at the last second.
The cannon’s strike blasted him toward one of the airships, destroying its shield and piercing through its body.
Rocky didn’t wait to see the outcome of his sneak attack and hurriedly buried itself in the ground, closing the path it had taken.
“You’re not going anywhere!” Regulus dove down from the sky and unleashed a palm strike on the place that Rocky had burrowed into.
The land shook, and a mile-long crater expanded at the point of impact.
However, Rocky was no longer there because Thirteen had summoned it to his side.
The teenage boy knew that Rocky wouldn’t be able to escape a Celestial once it had locked onto his body.
As a preventative measure, he made sure to connect his consciousness with Rocky and teleported him back as soon as the cannon inside its mouth had been fired.
The airship that had been pierced through crashed toward the ground.
The attack had hit its main engine, destroying it completely.
Castor had activated one of its artifacts to prevent the ship from exploding and guided it toward the ground.
The soldiers inside of it hurriedly escaped to safety, and when all of them had properly abandoned the ship, Castor also flew away.
A second later, the airship exploded, leaving them with one less asset to use in the war still being waged between them and the Defenders.
’Four more days,’ Castor clenched his fists. ’After four days, your day of reckoning will come! Let’s see who will be the one who will laugh last.’
The Celestial glared hatefully towards the North, where the city of Velgrande was located.
He made a vow that when he defeated the Defenders, he would make sure to personally torture the ones responsible for all of their suffering.
