Chapter 1484: Laufey Disappeared?
Chapter 1484: Laufey Disappeared?
The battle between Noel and the supreme devil and the third prince was something beyond anyone’s imagination.
A single slash from them was enough to destroy the entire wall, even with their protection. There were countless sword marks on the ground. The demon king was in the form of a beast in the past, but that was the reason he lost.
As a result, he had become a human to find a way to fight another human by understanding them. It included an understanding of the sword.
Due to his memory as the demon king as well as the experience of fighting Alex, the demon king’s attainment in the way of the swords was incredibly high.
In fact, it looked like he was on par with Noel. On the other hand, the supreme devil, as the disciple of Alex, had sword skills that surpassed Noel.
He might have been outshined by the Sword Saint, but he could be the third strongest, especially with all the experience he had accumulated over the past one thousand years.
Even though Noel managed to fight these two on equal ground, he still had a hard time injuring them. After all, Noel would have a hard time even killing one of them in a battle, let alone both of them at the same time.
Anna was probably the only one who could fight toe-to-toe against them among all the remaining spirit transcendences they had.
Due to the lack of numbers, Noel was getting overwhelmed on the battlefield. When he blocked the supreme devil, the third prince would strike him from the opposite direction, and vice versa.
Noel had been fending off their attack with a combination of his sword and element, but there was a limit to what he could do.
To his surprise, instead of using the ancient demon to create a distraction, the two ordered the ancient demon to attack the city instead.
This was actually a bigger distraction for Noel since he was responsible for his subordinates’ lives.
Noel began to lose his ground against the two.
On the other hand, the soldiers were having a hard time fighting against the demons, especially the ancient demon.
"Tsk!" Tristan gritted his teeth. "We can’t really stop the ancient demon with only one advanced rune. We need more, but my skill level hasn’t reached that point yet."
Rose was racking her brain, trying to find the solution. "It doesn’t look like we have any other choice. We need all airships to gather in our position and try to overwhelm the ancient demon with our firepower."
Tristan agreed with Rose’s suggestion. "Captain Garner. We need all the airships in our position. Since the ancient demon is focused on us, we have to hold on and let Marquis Ardagan fight without worries."
The captain acknowledged the order and instructed his soldiers to send the signal to other airships.
Once they recognized the signal, the airships began to move toward the main battleship.
"Attack!" One of the airships shot out a few Meteor Runes.
The ancient demon, although wounded, charged forward. It raised one of its arms and blocked the meteors, leaving only a small scratch.
It might not be able to gather any energy in its mouth anymore, but the ancient demon changed the way it attacked. Instead of gathering the energy, he let out that massive influx of energy and spread it like a breath.
"Not good!" Tristan shouted. "Barrier!"
The power of that energy cracked multiple spiritual barriers, both on the wall and on the airships. The airships got pushed back a bit by the shock wave produced by the collision, while the soldiers on the wall fell to the ground due to the ground shake.
Tristan gritted his teeth. ’My master cut one of its feet so easily?’
Tristan finally understood what kind of threat an ancient demon possessed. No mid level runes were effective against such a thing. The only thing that could hurt the ancient demon was the advanced level rune, but the demon was wary of it. Every time it fired the rune, the demon would do its best to dodge it.
They managed to stop the ancient demon for a bit, but the ancient demon would reach the wall sooner or later and crush it. If the demons entered the city, all hell would break loose.
"We can’t let this continue... We need to do something. How are we supposed to defeat this demon?" Tristan gritted his teeth.
"I can’t find a way either." Rose shook her head.
"How about we ask that person?" Sandra, who was accompanying Tristan, couldn’t help but suggest.
"That person?" Tristan tilted his head in confusion.
"Ah! Yes. That person might have the answer." Rose turned around and called that person out loud. "Cat Mask..."
Rose suddenly fell silent. Earlier, he was in the control room, observing everything. In fact, he was more like Noel’s assistant than Rose.
But Laufey actually disappeared.
"Did he leave?" Rose furrowed her eyebrows. ’If I’m not mistaken, the Cat Mask is Laufey Ardagan, the infamous traitor. Don’t tell me he’s betraying the Ardagan family again?’
Tristan couldn’t find that person either. However, they all knew that Laufey was a spirit grandmaster. Although two of the captains were spirit grandmasters, Laufey was still the strongest, second only to Noel on this expedition.
He should have known how to deal with an ancient demon, but when they needed him the most, he disappeared.
"This..." Rose gritted her teeth. She swore to report this matter to Noel.
Due to the ancient demon’s suppression, the soldiers had a hard time repelling the demons. More and more demons climbed onto the wall.
Noel was worried that the city would be destroyed. If this city were destroyed, the trust of the citizens would decrease. The soldiers would also bear the shame, which lowered their morale. More importantly, losing a lot of people, including Tristan and Rose, would be a big blow to the Ardagan family.
"You are getting distracted now, Noel Ardagan!" The prince hit him from above.
Noel clicked his tongue and raised his sword, barely blocking it.
"It’s useless to wait for reinforcements. All of your reinforcement has been sealed. Whether it’s your wife or Oscar, no one will come to your aid. You have grown too arrogant, Noel Ardagan. This will cause your downfall!" The supreme devil grinned.
