Chapter 803: Another Miracle?
Chapter 803: Another Miracle?
“Why did you come even after my warning?” was the first word that came out of Jack’s mouth the moment Nox and Eve stepped inside.
“Lie. You’re not happy to see us here.” Nox smirked as he walked toward the bed Jack was lying on. As he got closer, he realized Jack was being treated the same way he had been back on Earth. There were no magic potion healers lying around.
Jack was being treated in the traditional way, with herbs and other medicinal substances Nox had never bothered to learn about.
The person attending to him was an elderly woman with a wrinkled face that did nothing to diminish her beauty. She worked diligently and barely glanced up even after Nox entered the room.
At Nox’s words, Jack did not reply immediately. In truth, he was happy Nox was here. He had thought he would never see him again. At the same time, however, worry gnawed at him. This was unfamiliar territory.
His father, the lord of the island, was already searching for him because of the recent emergency involving beast tamers. If he somehow discovered them within his territory, then both Eve’s and Nox’s lives would be in danger.
“I’m happy to see you,” Jack finally admitted. He wanted to say more, but then he remembered the presence of the medic still in the room.
Sensing his gaze, she straightened, gave a low bow, and quietly left, stopping just outside the door.
Jack turned back to the two of them. “But you can’t be here. My old man won’t hesitate to kill you if he finds out you’re on this island.”
Eve hissed softly. “Your old man is strong, but you’re talking as if we’re some bunch of weaklings who can be dealt with easily.”
Jack bit his lip at her words. “You don’t understand. Staying on this island will only make everything worse. You have to leave.”
“I’m not leaving without you,” Gabriel said calmly. “I’m here to find a solution, and until I do, I’m not leaving this place.”
Jack’s frown deepened. “Why are you even doing all this?”
“It’s simple,” Gabriel replied. “You’ve been a great friend. What did you think friends were for?”
Jack was at a loss for words, unsure of what to say.
Meanwhile, down the corridor outside, two identical figures were approaching.
They were none other than Soren and Serene.
The twins headed toward the infirmary where Jack was being treated and soon stopped in front of the doors.
Soren’s brows knitted together when he noticed the guards standing straighter than usual. Serene caught it as well. It was subtle, but the tension in the air was wrong. This place was meant to be sealed. No visitors. No interruptions. The order had come directly from above.
“There were people here?” Soren asked, his voice calm but heavy.
The guard hesitated briefly before nodding. “Yes, Young Master. Two individuals. They said they were here to check on Jack.”
Serene’s eyes narrowed. “Who allowed that?”
“No one,” the guard replied quickly. “They came on their own.”
That was enough.
Without waiting, Soren pushed the door open. Serene followed closely, her hand hovering near her waist as her instincts screamed that something was wrong.
The door burst open with a loud bang.
Jack lay on the bed exactly where he was supposed to be, eyes half closed, breathing steady. The scent of herbs still lingered in the air. The elderly woman was gone. There were no unfamiliar figures. No movement. Nothing.
Soren’s sharp gaze swept across the room.
“Search,” he ordered.
Serene moved immediately, checking behind the curtains, under the bed, and near the cabinets. Soren stepped further inside, his senses stretched to their limit.
He could feel it.
A faint residue of presence. Someone had been here, but there was nothing left behind. No aura. No footsteps. No trace.
Jack slowly opened his eyes and looked at them. “You’re late,” he muttered weakly.
Serene turned sharply toward him. “Did anyone come to see you?”
Jack paused for just a fraction of a second before shaking his head. “No. Just the medic.”
Soren stared at him in silence. Jack met his gaze, appearing calm, but beneath the blanket his fingers clenched slightly.
Soren finally exhaled. “We were informed otherwise.”
Jack shrugged lightly, then winced from the pain. “Guess the guards imagined things.”
Serene remained unconvinced, but without proof there was nothing they could do.
“Rest,” Soren said after a moment. “No more disturbances.”
The twins turned and left, the door closing softly behind them.
The moment they stepped away, two figures shimmered briefly in the empty corner of the room.
Naturally, it was Nox and Eve reappearing.
Nox’s Ultimate Tier skill [Phantom Cloak] deactivated silently, as if it had never been there.
“That was close,” Jack said. “But you have to leave now. I doubt my siblings are convinced. They’ll be back, maybe trying to catch me off guard.”
“All right, if you say so,” Nox nodded. “We’ll be back.”
They did not linger. Without another word, they slipped through the back window, landing lightly on the corridor below before blending seamlessly into the flow of attendants and guards without drawing attention.
Moments later, they were gone.
As they moved through the halls, Eve leaned closer. “So what’s the plan now?”
Nox did not slow his pace. “We don’t have time anymore. Whatever they’re planning for Jack, it’s already in motion. We have to free him as soon as possible.”
Back inside the infirmary, Jack stared at the ceiling long after Soren and Serene had left.
His chest felt tight.
He knew that look in Nox’s eyes. That calm resolve that only appeared when things were about to turn dangerous. He slowly closed his eyes.
“You idiots,” he thought. “Why did you come back…”
The island would soon become unstable. He could feel it.
Finally, Jack exhaled softly, as if giving up on Nox stubborness. “Let’s see how it goes. Maybe… just maybe… he’ll perform another miracle.”
