Chapter 875 - 875: Encryption
“Still, I plan to focus on the magic circle instead of incantation.” Nathan raised his hand, stopping her from further explaining about the incantation.
“Certainly.” She nodded. “Basically, the first thing you do when creating a new magic circle is let your ability to flow and track that pattern before putting it into the magic circle.
“By putting it into the magic circle, you will then figure out what you want to tamper from that pattern. Of course, this is a trial-and-error process. You can add the conductor line or resistance line depending on what you need. If there’s even a single ena blocked from entering one line from the element line, it will create a different effect.
“As a result, a mage who researches magic circles will need a lot of time to complete even a single magic circle, especially to make one that matches their desire completely.”
Nathan looked down, falling into deep thought. “I understand the concept. Basically, the center will be the brand of the magic circle and from it flow several lines that will be connected to the element lines. If we want to tamper with the magic circle, we will add the resistance lines. It can be to slow down or block completely, which can also create the complexity of the magic.
“And all these lines are supported by Circle B. Meanwhile, Circle A only consists of the brand as well as the conducting lines. Last but not least, Circle C will act as the wall and the completion of the circle. This alone has made the magic circle be considered complete, but it’s not usable yet.
“That’s because it lacks ena to function properly. As a result, the outer layer will be filled with… I don’t know… Maybe the conducting lines act as the supplier. Circle D will act as the support pillar, while Circle E will become the outer shell.”
Charlotte nodded. “You are correct. The conducting lines in the outer layer are much bigger than the inner layer so that more ena can flow. And you have to adjust their path so that the inner side gets activated first before the ena from the outer side comes in, which will fully complete the activation sequence.”
Nathan crossed his arms. “I get the gist of what to do. I can see why it’s going to be hard to create an original magic circle. After all, you first have to create a new way of utilizing the said magic before projecting it into the magic circle. In other words, the magic circle is a way to use magic that matches you perfectly.”
“Exactly!”
Nathan squinted his eyes. After listening to her explanation, he couldn’t help but think of several magic circles that would actually become a new trump card.
Of course, he had at least three magics that he wanted to craft. The first one was to speed up the flow of his body with this magic circle. In the past, he had used it, but it had a side effect, which caused his body’s aging to follow the speed of the magic.
There must be a pattern that causes that body’s aging. If he removed that part and created this new magic circle, he could use that magic without the side effect. He thought it was only necessary for him to get a time element source, but it appeared he needed a magic circle to solve that side effect.
“Now that I think about it…” Nathan examined his space bracelet. “Why does the magic circle for this bracelet remain active when I use it? Shouldn’t it disappear after the activation sequence is done and just let the effect do the rest?”
“That’s the pattern I’m talking about. You will have to read and memorize them. Unfortunately, that book is in the ancient library right now.”
Vivian raised her head. “Is it that important? I have a manual for 280 patterns.”
“Mine has 533 patterns. I don’t know if a few have been created, but I have tried to add all the new patterns whenever a magician comes to my library.”
“Oh!” Vivian nodded in understanding. “In that case, we can bring it back and let him learn the more complete one.”
Nathan thought for a moment. “There’s one more question I have in mind. The flow of the magic circle is like… in all directions. Meanwhile, a magic circle can be drawn on paper. The difference between two dimensions and three dimensions is huge. In that case, why not make a three-dimensional magic circle? Won’t it be easier?”
“That’s not a good idea.” Vivian shook her head. “By creating a three-dimensional magic circle, you’re basically telling your opponents how your element works.”
“That’s right. By projecting that three-dimensional pattern into a two-dimensional pattern, you will be able to create your own interpretation of that magic as well as a measure to hide the real flow of your magic.” Charlotte agreed.
‘So, it’s like encryption but for magic…’ Nathan thought.
“Of course, basic elements like fire, water, and other elements in that category have been researched by a lot of people and deciphered. That’s why someone with a higher rank element, such as light and dark or even snow and ice, will be more appreciated. It’s even more so for absolute elements or unique elements like life, death, or even space or time. Not many studies have touched that area because of their rarity.”
“So, that’s why they have a higher ranking…” Nathan nodded in understanding. “Actually, I have a few utilizations of my element that I want to have immediately. It’s just… I don’t have the experience for this. Can you help me?”
“This is not good. This is a record of a time element. You should be the only one to know this information.”
“But if I do it myself, it won’t be ready before the next trip.”
Charlotte looked worried. She couldn’t help but turn to Vivian, asking for her opinion.
“In that case, why don’t you make a few first magic circles together? This will serve as an experience in making a magic circle. However, you have to create your circles by yourself next time. It’s not just about trust or whatever. Showing how the time elements work will create a lot of problems in the future, even if Charlotte isn’t going to tell anyone about it.”
“I understand.” Nathan nodded.
“In that case, I will help you in making those few magic circles. But that’s all.”
“Yes.”
Vivian sighed. “In that case, let’s head to your library and bring it here. It’s better to get the book so that he can learn as well.”
“Agreed.”
Nathan took off both of his space bracelets. “In that case, please take these two bracelets as well. I don’t know if that one bracelet is enough or not, so it’s better to bring more.”
