Chapter 1217: A Case
Chapter 1217: A Case
“I think I read that somewhere. Give me a second.” Melissa raised her hand and took out her notebook. She flipped page after page, looking for the notes she had taken from all the reading.
After a while, she finally got it. “This is it. There was a person who had a mutation in the past. That person had a large summoning link to one particular familiar, which made him able to become a crystal fusion stage summoner when he was only 21 years old, becoming the greatest genius of this continent.
“Even on our continent, I never saw something like that, but more importantly, due to this mutation, this person was unable to use another familiar.
“This is not the lifebound link, but a mutation. You might wonder what the connection is, but the key here is mutation.
“If we are thinking about the black cell, especially on mutated aliens, I think you get the idea of what I’m talking about.
“The black cell might cause a mutation on the summoning link, which makes it equal to the lifebound link.”
Nathan remained silent for a while. “I can see the connection. It might be the reason they are able to have black weapons and lifebound links at the same time. How about Bell Crusher? He is able to use more than two weapons? I don’t know about the others, but he certainly can.”
“I’m not so sure about that. It might be another mutation, but we don’t know about it yet.” Melissa paused as though another thought had appeared in her mind. “I can try finding such information, but I can’t guarantee anything.
“However, there is actually something you need to know about this case. According to history, this person is influenced by the summoning link.
“You can think of it as the lifebound link. The familiar gives us a lot of things through the lifebound link, such as their talent, their element, and so on.
“Thanks to this case, I know that it’s not that simple. The familiar might also send their personality and something. If you think about it, have you noticed any change after making a lifebound link, especially in your character?”
Nathan obviously didn’t know about this because he hadn’t created the lifebound link. However, Bella and Vivian noticed it.
“Now that I think about it…” Bella looked up. “Although I didn’t feel it at that time, I remembered Evelyn mentioning something about me being more playful than usual.”
Vivian confirmed it. “I have made two lifebound links. With my fath… I mean, with my first familiar, being surrounded by nature was peaceful, which made me want to study a lot.
“However, after making my second lifebound contract, I didn’t have that urge to study in nature. I thought it was my trauma, but I still enjoyed nature.
“Still, there was an urge to create something more practical. No, it’s more like doing something, and it just happens to be making something practical.”
Nathan crossed his arms. “Why aren’t they known yet? I’m sure someone has noticed it, right?”
“That’s the problem. The change is subtle. You can say that this particular desire will be transferred to the person because they originally had it. So, it’s more like amplifying that desire, and no one studies it. I mean, it’s kind of useless.”
“That’s fair, but what are you trying to say about this case?”
“Ah. What I’m talking about is the fact that it transfers a lot of things. Because of the black cell, the familiar mutated. And that mutation might be transmitted to the summoners.”
“!!!” Nathan connected another dot, this time with their personality. “Now that I think about it, there was a drastic change in their behavior after joining the Death Society. Don’t tell me, their psychopathic tendency is transferred from the black cell to them.”
“I don’t have concrete proof, but that’s my theory right now.”
Vivian squinted her eyes. “After listening to Cthulhu, I know one thing. The aliens are neutral, even though they are not exactly our friends. On the other hand, the black cell is hostile to everything that can become a threat to its existence.
“The black cell recognizes humans as their enemies, so they’re killing them, and in the most brutal way? Although the explanation is somewhat lacking, I think we’re on the correct path.”
Nathan also agreed with her point. “Still, there is this Godfather. Even though they hate humans, they don’t hate each other. In fact, they are obeying this Godfather.”
“True.” Melissa raised two fingers. “From what I can see, there are two possible reasons. The first one is that the black cell amplifies their desire, which is to kill other humans who have mistreated them. This will exclude the people around them.
“The second reason is that it’s the power of the Godfather. He might be able to control the black cell to a certain degree or maybe mutate the black cell personally before transferring it to them.”
“A human is able to control the black cell?” Nathan widened his eyes in shock. “I mean, I think it’s possible to a certain extent, but this black cell is connected to that singularity, right?”
“I don’t think so. The black cell attached to these aliens is more like a clone of that singularity. They’re the same, but not connected.” Melissa shook her head.
Nathan still couldn’t get a full grasp of their condition, but a few dots had really been connected.
“For now, investigate it. Don’t forget about your own improvement since we know our opponents are much stronger than anything we have faced so far.” Nathan sighed. “I will be visiting you guys soon.”
“Got it. We will be waiting for you.” Bella ended the call.
Nathan contemplated for a few minutes, absorbing the information he had just received.
If the theory were true, he could figure out their behavior and take advantage of that behavior to trap them.
As much as he wanted to take his time thinking about it, Sonia was still by his side.
“Ah, sorry, Sonia. I was too absorbed in that topic. How about the members of the Death Society?”
