Chapter 679: Heaven, Earth, and Man?
Chen Xiao arrived at Huang Hao’s interrogation room.
When the latter saw him, his expression was clearly one of surprise.
"Why have you come to see me?"
From the time Huang Hao was captured to when Chen Xiao came to see him, not much time had passed.
But in that time, Huang Hao hadn’t seen Chen Xiao, leading him to believe he might not have the chance to meet him.
"I have some doubts, so I came to chat with you," Chen Xiao explained.
Huang Hao chuckled, "Still have doubts? Shouldn’t be, I’ve confessed everything I needed to."
"There are actually some things you haven’t confessed. Have you explained about Xiao He?" Chen Xiao retorted, though he wasn’t there for Xiao He.
Hearing this, Huang Hao’s expression paused:
"There’s nothing much to explain about her. She’s a ruthless woman herself, and whatever she’s done will require your interrogation methods to get out of her."
"Well, let the police investigate that. I’m not here for her today, anyway."
"Then go ahead, I’ve said what I should, and I won’t say what I shouldn’t."
Chen Xiao didn’t intend to pursue matters regarding the Ten Demon Sons further.
For someone like Huang Hao, if you don’t put aside other matters to think solely about interrogation, it’s indeed hard to get him to talk about what he doesn’t want to.
"To be precise, it’s like giving you a puzzle to solve. After rounds of interrogation, you must be quite bored, so why not help me solve this to kill time?"
"Alright, go ahead."
"I encountered a locked-room murder case—there’s surveillance outside, and no escape routes inside. But after the deceased entered the room, they were mysteriously killed. I want to know, if you were to look at this from a criminal’s standpoint, how would it be done?"
Chen Xiao spoke, but Huang Hao seemed unfazed, so he shifted his angle:
"Let’s put it another way. You probably want me dead, right? Now I’ve just entered a room, and the door is locked. There’s a window, but it’s sealed and can’t be opened. You killed me inside and left the room safely without leaving a trace."
"Though I’d love for what you said to come true, I have enough self-awareness to know that’s not possible," Huang Hao answered almost immediately without much thought.
After saying this, Huang Hao added, "Are you sure the person didn’t commit suicide? There are some people in the world so idle, they make it look like they were murdered to cause trouble for others."
Chen Xiao couldn’t help but laugh, "That’s quite interesting coming from you, but I can assure you it wasn’t suicide."
Aside from being killed, Yuan Keyu’s body was skinned.
The act of skinning alone proves it couldn’t have been done by himself.
Huang Hao was silent for a moment, his brows furrowed in thought.
But after thinking it over, he still felt incapable of accomplishing what Chen Xiao described.
"No, I can’t do it. The main issue is not knowing the layout of the place you mentioned. If I knew that, it might give me some ideas. You know me, I like to do things with emphasis on timing and location."
Location?
The word did give Chen Xiao some insight.
However, his knowledge of the layout wasn’t extensive, as he hadn’t been to the crime scene personally.
"They say timing, location, and human harmony are key. You’ve mentioned timing and location, so how do you think one could utilize people to possibly accomplish this?" Chen Xiao asked.
Huang Hao appeared irritated.
He felt Chen Xiao was spouting nonsense.
But the next second, Huang Hao spoke, "You want to look at the new case from my perspective, so... I can’t think of any solution right now, so I’ll look at it from your perspective as a detective. If someone in your investigation team has issues, wouldn’t that problem be solved?"
"Like you said about the surveillance, if the person checking the surveillance has issues, then wouldn’t the biggest problem of the locked-room murder be solved?"
"An internal issue?" Chen Xiao muttered and then quickly became alert.
Talking to Huang Hao required constant caution.
This guy always wanted to interfere, possibly trying to plant some dark thoughts in Chen Xiao’s mind.
Whether in thoughts or understanding.
People seemed more inclined to accept darkness, while accepting the positive side often took much longer.
Just like the saying, it’s easy to learn the bad and hard to learn the good.
Chen Xiao watched Huang Hao with interest.
The latter paused for a moment, then smiled, "You’re really clear-headed, even in such an atmosphere of chatting, you’re still constantly on guard against me."
"Alright, let’s talk about something meaningful. You still want to affect my mentality, just hoping I’d fall into it someday."
"Yeah, if you ever really fall because of your mentality, even if I’m dead, you’d still die because of me." Huang Hao’s smile grew stronger.
However, his smile made Chen Xiao lose interest in continuing the conversation momentarily.
Seeing Chen Xiao getting up to leave, Huang Hao restrained himself a bit and said:
"Actually, I think you might want to consider what I’ve said. If what you described is truly an impeccable locked room, then the problem likely lies with the people. Otherwise, who committed the murder?"
"It couldn’t be a ghost, right?"
Huang Hao finished and laughed heartily.
Chen Xiao furrowed his brows, looking seriously at Huang Hao.
He thought Huang Hao’s words weren’t without sense.
If the environment was indeed that flawless, then the issue was with the people.
But who among them had the problem?
That was worth contemplating.
At least, Chen Xiao also felt that it couldn’t be a ghost committing the murder.
And during the initial investigation of a locked-room murder case, the prevailing sentiment seemed to be: it couldn’t be a ghost committing the murder, right?
Chen Xiao quietly left.
As the door of the interrogation room closed, the smile on Huang Hao’s face gradually faded.
His eyebrows furrowed with a contemplative look.
After thinking for a while, Huang Hao grew increasingly agitated:
"This seems impossible, right? There’s surveillance outside; there shouldn’t be any hidden exits inside either."
"After all, this is a case Chen Xiao is investigating. If he says there isn’t any, then there probably isn’t. So what kind of person could achieve such a murder?"
"There must be a problem for sure. It must be some corrupt individual within the police force, otherwise, if someone really managed to create a perfect locked-room murder case, wouldn’t their skills surpass mine?"
Huang Hao wore a look of discontent.
Even his handcuffed hands began to fidget.
His fingers scribbled incessantly on the table, utterly absorbed in the locked-room murder case Chen Xiao had described.
