I took a glance momentarily from the small gap between us and saw Chii pull back slightly, her eyes glinting with mischief and control. An-rin’s head tilted up just enough to peek at me.

But then, An-rin mumbled, “Yeah, yeah, everyone’s great. Can we, like, chill for a sec? I need to… process all this science.”

With that, we all burst into soft laughter, washing away the tension into something warmer, more comfortable. The movie playing on the TV was already rolling its credits. It only served to give us a source of light because An-rin decided to watch earlier with the lights off.

My arm tightened around An-rin, keeping her close. Then my other arm did the same on Chii, while Kushii slid forward and settled down on my chest without even bothering to pull up my pants.

A momentary silence ensued as everyone seemed to be processing what we all just did.

An-rin’s fingers traced idle patterns on my arm, her chaotic energy simmering down into something softer, while Chii’s head leaned against my shoulder, her usual boldness giving way to a quiet contentment.
