Chapter 4016: Good Luck

Chapter 4016: Good Luck

Lu Yin was not surprised that the Great Master knew about Wu Er. She was a ferryman of the River of Aeons, and she had lived even longer than Greater Sancte Awe Gate. It was likely that the passage of time meant little to her. In fact, she was essentially an Immortal already; she just lacked the combat strength of one.

Lu Yin was more interested in which branch of the River of Aeons that the Great Master oversaw.

“I found her, but she escaped. The Netherfiends’ method of fusing with multiple spirit seeds comes from her. Finding her won’t be easy, which is why I need some luck.”

“How should I help you, Mr. Lu?” a soft, melodious voice asked as another figure appeared on the communication device’s display. It was Xiang Siyu.

Her beauty surpassed the mortal world. She was one of the most beautiful women that Lu Yin had ever seen. Her eyes were especially distinctive, as they were bright and lively in a manner unlike any other Dukkhan’s that he had ever encountered.

It was as if she had never endured any kind of hardship, as though she had simply walked down her path of cultivation without ever suffering.

Lu Yin had not expected Xiang Siyu to be beside the Great Master. He coughed lightly as he met her curious, beautiful eyes and said, “We’ll have to find out, as I’m not entirely sure myself.”

She responded with a small smile. “Alright. I’d be honored to help you. But please, don’t call me a ‘wandering lucky bag’ again. That makes it sound like everyone is after me.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Mr. Lu, Wu Er is by no means simple. Her combat strength is at the very limit of what is possible beneath the Immortal realm. Do not underestimate her,” the Great Master warned.

Lu Yin nodded. “I’ll ask Greater Sancte Awe Gate to bring you over right away.”

In the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, between the gap between Immortals and peak Dukkhans were the very few who had reached the limit of power beneath the immortal realm.

Those select few individuals possessed tremendous combat strength, as well as the potential to one day break through to the Immortal realm. For this reason, they were all closely observed as candidates for future Immortals.

People like Qing Xing, the Great Master, Dan Jin, Gu Duanke, Xing Fan, Xue Lou, Bai Xia, and Ku Deng, who was in the Mindscape Megaverse, as well as Greater Sancte Mi Jin’s missing disciple Wu Shang, were all peak Dukkhans who either possessed power at the limit, or very close to it.

In terms of cultivation, they were the ones closest to Immortality.

They were the ones most likely to break through to the Immortal realm.

The Nine Odysseys Megaverse did not have a lack of such experts, and whenever one had a breakthrough, they would become the next Greater Sancte Awe Gate or Master Qing Cao.

However, until that happened, all of them were overshadowed by Lu Yin’s power.

He could no longer be regarded as someone who had merely achieved the limit of power beneath the Immortal realm; his combat power was sufficient for him to face off against Immortals themselves. Regardless of whether he won or lost, he was at least qualified to stand against them.

If he made another breakthrough, things would not remain nearly so simple.

For Greater Sancte Awe Gate to regard Wu Er so seriously, and for the Great Master to make a point to warn him, Lu Yin believed that the woman had to be at least as strong as the Great Master. It was possible that Wu Er was slightly stronger than even Qing Xing, which would place her close to Lu Yin’s combat power. That would place her equal to the Insect Lords. This was an opponent whom Lu Yin would only get one chance against. He could not afford to be careless.

Soon, Xiang Siyu arrived before Lu Yin.

“Where is the Great Master?”

“She didn’t come. She has her own matters to handle. You’ve exposed so many Netherfiends, Mr. Lu, that she has plenty to take care of,” Xiang Siyu stated with a gentle smile. She gave the impression of being soft and mild. There was nothing about her that resembled a peak Dukkhan, or even of someone who had lived for so long. This woman was about as old as Xing Fan.

During the time that Lu Yin had been disguised in the Blackmarsh, he had heard tales about this woman.

Whatever she desired, she obtained. Nothing had ever been out of her reach. She had always been able to advance her cultivation within mere days if she chose so. It was as though fate itself favored her.

But despite all that, she had been stuck as a peak Dukkhan for far too long, unable to find her next step.

On the path to Immortality, every other peak Dukkhan had made greater progress than Xiang Siyu. She was unable to even see her own future.

That was why she had joined Deathmound. She wanted to temper herself, witnessing the pain of those who violated the edicts of the megaverse while seeking her own suffering.

Those who were willing to risk certain death by defying the rules must have experienced something profound.

Despite already overcoming Dukkha, Xiang Siyu still sought suffering. This indicated that she was aware that whatever she had endured could not be considered her true Dukkha. Lu Yin had only understood this after he performed a divination for Yuan Huo and Kui Niang.

But understanding was meaningless. If one could not determine what their Dukkha was, they simply would not find it.

If everyone was capable of determining what their Dukkha really was, Immortals would not be this rare.

Qing Yun had spent her time observing life in all its forms, while Greater Sancte Mi Jin had directly experienced them. Xiang Siyu sought to read them. That was her only path forward.

There were times when Lu Yin wondered if people were capable of seeing others clearly and simply remained blind to themselves. Could there be something blocking their vision?

“How do you want me to help, Mr. Lu?” Xiang Siyu asked curiously, blinking her large eyes at Lu Yin.

She was quite curious about Lu Yin, while also carrying a great deal of respect for him.

He had entered the Nine Odysseys Megaverse entirely alone, rising up from the Tianyuan. He had risen up to the point where he now stood invincible in all of human civilization. Clearly, he must have suffered greatly along the way.

Countless people in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had heard of what Lu Yin had done in the Spirit Nidus, but the more that they learned, the greater their respect for the man became. He was a powerhouse who, in an impossibly short time, had gained the strength to challenge even the High Seraph. That speed of progress was simply terrifying.

Even if Lu Yin had not sought her out, Xiang Siyu would have gone to him.

She lacked suffering and longed to see herself clearly, while Lu Yin fought alone for the sake of the Tianyuan and humanity as a whole. He was exactly the kind of man she wanted to understand.

Was Greater Sancte Blood Tower perhaps right?

Xiang Siyu’s eyes lit up even further as she stared at Lu Yin.

Lu Yin asked, “Have you ever tried to help someone improve their luck before?”

Xiang Siyu thought for a moment. “Yes.”

Lu Yin’s eyes lit up. “How did you do it?”

He had been thinking about how he would go about borrowing the woman’s exceptional luck. Originally, he had been thinking of karma, and he had only idly asked the question. He had not expected the woman to have lent out her luck before.

Xiang Siyu extended a flawless white hand. “By holding hands.”

Lu Yin blinked. “Holding hands?”

She nodded. “Yes. One of my friends lost something, and when she held my hand, she was able to find it.”

“That simple?”

“How complicated should it be?”

Lu Yin was speechless. Luck was an intangible concept; could it really be that easy to borrow? Still, if it was a complicated process, how would he attempt to do so, even with karma?

“Mr. Lu, regardless of whether it works, we can just try. Why dwell on such things?” Xiang Siyu asked.

Lu Yin felt that the woman made a valid point. He raised his right hand, bringing out his die. At the same time, his left hand reached out for Xiang Siyu’s.

She readily clasped his hand.

With their hands joined, Lu Yin’s heart trembled at the softness he felt. Flustered, he quickly focused on his die and rolled it.

It spun slowly, and when it stopped, he was staring at six pips.

His eyes went wide. That easy?

His mind entered the strange dark space, only to find nothing but pure darkness.

Without Xiang Siyu, he would have proceeded to take his time searching. However, it appeared that her luck was already helping since he was rolling Possession more frequently. If he repeatedly entered and exited the dark space, he might eventually find Wu Er.

“How was it?” Xiang Siyu asked.

“I want to try again,” Lu Yin replied.

She smiled. “Whatever you want. I’ll be in your hands for as long as you like.”

Lu Yin glanced sideways at the woman. Why did that sound so strange?

He brushed the matter aside and rolled the die again. Another Possession.

Lu Yin was stunned. This luck was too good.

He had spent nearly two years rolling his die. As a result, it had become far more difficult for him to roll six pips. Despite that, he had just succeeded twice in a row. Even if he did not roll the dice for a long time, back to back successes were far too rare.

This woman really did have good luck.

Once again, his mind entered the strange dark space. This time, he saw a ball of light. It was dim, which meant that it represented a random Netherfiend, rather than Wu Er. Her orb of light would be quite bright.

Not willing to waste any red energy, Lu Yin quickly ended the Possession and rolled the die again.

If he had known that it was possible to borrow Xiang Siyu’s luck in such a manner, he would have exterminated the Netherfiends long ago. He would not have taken nearly this long.

The third roll resulted in two pips, and Lu Yin glanced at Xiang Siyu in surprise.

She just laughed. “My luck isn’t perfect, simply better than most people’s. If it were perfect, I’d already be an Immortal.”

Lu Yin felt that that was reasonable. He had been greedy. Xiang Siyu was not able to control luck itself.

He steadied his heart and continued.

Enhance. Again. Possession. Despite his incredible luck at this moment, he was unfortunately still unable to find Wu Er.

He released Xiang Siyu’s hand. “I’m sorry, I need to rest. We can try again in ten days.”

Xiang Siyu was not bothered. “As you wish.”

Lu Yin felt grateful for her willingness. “Thank you.”

Xiang Siyu simply stared at him, not saying a word.

Her gaze made Lu Yin uneasy. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“This isn’t the first time,” Xiang Siyu said.

Lu Yin frowned in confusion.

“Several times when you spoke with the Great Master, I was watching. I am quite interested in you.”

“Why?”

“What if I married you?”

Lu Yin froze while staring at the woman blankly.

Xiang Siyu giggled. “I’m serious!”

Lu Yin was speechless. “I’m not good with jokes.”

“Then what are you good at?”

“Interrogation.”

“I’m not good at that. We have different interests, but that’s fine. I can compromise.”

“No... Do you realize what you’re saying?”

Xiang Siyu nodded. “I do. My luck’s quite good.”

“This isn’t about luck.”

“Of course it is. If I weren’t lucky, you’d already be married off to one of the Seven Fairies... Or,” She leaned in close, her eyes locking on his. “To all of them?”

Lu Yin was speechless. “Who told you that?”

She smiled. “I’m quite close with the Great Master and also with Greater Sancte Blood Tower.”

Lu Yin shook his head. “Then you should know that I refused because I already have a wife.”

“I don’t mind.”

“...”

“Mr. Lu, am I beautiful?”

Lu Yin glanced at her. “Of course.”

“Then, am I your type?”

“Cultivators can change their appearance freely.”

“This is my real face. I’ve never changed my appearance.”

Lu Yin sighed. “I’m not as impressive as you seem to believe. Why would you marry me?

She replied, “I never said that you were impressive. Does marrying you have to mean that you are impressive?”

Lu Yin looked at her. “Then why? For some sort of benefit?”

Greater Sancte Green Lotus had tried to give him the Seven Fairies, while Greater Sancte Awe Gate had wanted to offer Qing Yun. At this moment, Xiang Siyu was trying to do the same thing. Right, she’s part of Deathmound, which is overseen by Greater Sancte Blood Tower.

That made the set complete.

“Because of Greater Sancte Blood Tower.”

Lu Yin nodded. “I’ve already refused Greater Sancte Green Lotus and Greater Sancte Awe Gate. Naturally, I’ll refuse Greater Sancte Blood Tower, too.”

Xiang Siyu thought for a moment. “Right now, I’m helping you, Mr. Lu. Shouldn’t you compensate me in some way?”
