Chapter 442 - 442: Reaching the city
The ship tore through the skies like it was nothing. Unlike where they came from, the skies above had a tone of storms, thunder crackling in the sky, but the ship was able to easily ward it off.
After several hours of flying, they finally came into range of a massive city. The moment they saw it through the ship, their eyes widened in shock, it wasn’t just massive, it was crazy massive.
The city spread out farther than their eyes could see, towering buildings made of black stone and runes were everywhere.
Despite the fact that all the buildings he saw were not made of metal, it still looked very futuristic with an ancient aesthetic.
It was like what if a medieval time had arcane magic technology. He could see towers made of black stone and runes running all around them.
The ship flew them to the city, and then something scanned the ship before they could even reach.
“What was that?” Silva asked.
[Do not fret, that is a standard scan to ensure that the ship is safe and doesn’t pose a threat to the city.]
“So they scanned us in only a few seconds?” he asked.
[The scan is a peripheral scan, deep scans are not allowed into ships without the permission of the owner.]
[The ship will be docking at the landing station.]
After the warning, the ship took a detour, flying over the city, it docked in an open landing space, it was filled with old and new ships of different kinds.
“Why do we have to stop here, is it safe?” Silva asked.
[Master currently has nowhere to stay and is, in theory, a visitor here for the first time, master is forced to use a public landing space.
Master should not be worried, despite the look of the landing space, it is watched over by the Arcane Council, they have the basic information saved of everyone inside the ship before you land.
There is no way for someone who wasn’t in the ship before it was docked to take it out, the landing field has a powerful magical formation that can stop the flight of any ship.]
“Oh I see, it seems the Arcane Council are the big shots as Aris said, they basically run everything,” Silva said, he got up on his feet, “alright, let’s go.”
[Master, I understand that this is your first time in the city, you need some sort of guidance.]
A watch-like device came out from where the orb initially came out from.
Silva walked to it and grabbed it. “What is this?” he asked.
[This device uses an arcane link to the ship, allowing me to communicate with you and aid you with information that you need.]
“Ohh, that’s great, thank you Aota,” he said and put on the watch.
They left the ship and stepped out into the new world, massive and beyond their belief. Every few seconds a ship would fly above, or a man on a flying sword, or a literally flying ship, a boat-type ship.
He looked up in the sky in awe, his eyes following every ship.
“Master, first we need a place to stay,” Lily said.
“Yeah, definitely, we can’t take Snow and Dawn everywhere,” Silva said.
“Master, I’m sure I can follow you,” Dawn said.
“No Dawn, you are Snow’s guardian from now, I understand that you want to follow me around, but your strength, despite how skilled you are, is the weakest among us.
Over time for sure you’ll get stronger, but I can’t risk that for now and I also desperately need someone to watch Snow, teach her and train her.
I’m very sure that I’ll barely be at one place at a time, so you have to do this for me,” he said and walked up to her, placing his hands on her shoulder and looking right in her eyes.
Her heart wavered immediately, there was no way she could refuse him.
“Fine, but only for the beginning, I want to get stronger as well, so you have to make sure you give me the opportunity to get stronger,” she said.
“Yes, for sure,” Silva said.
Finally, they made it into the streets, there were a lot of people walking around, some dressed casually, but with some sort of dystopian touch to it. While some people wore mage robes and cultivator robes.
There was a tone of diversity all around them. They kept their heads low as they walked through the streets.
“Hey! What the hell do you think you are doing, are you refusing the Black Sword Guild? Pay us what you owe!”
Silva heard a yell, he turned around and spotted four young men surrounding an old man. Each one had on ankle-length black robes and a silver embroidered sword on the back.
When he heard them call out their name as members of the Black Sword Guild, his attention was immediately pulled that way.
“I told you already, we don’t have anything to give to you, the Arcane Council is in charge of this area, and I already pay tax to them, I can’t afford to pay to you as well,” the man said.
One of the boys, seemingly the leader, tall with waist-length black hair, shoved the man to the wall.
“What the hell did you just say? You gave money to those good-for-nothing mages? And now you don’t have any to give to us?
Don’t you know that we cultivators are the ones that patronize your business the most? Yet you don’t want to pay us our tax?” he said and grabbed the man, pulling him close.
“I’m sorry, but that’s just how it is, we are already running on a loss and the tax you ask for is outrageous, I can’t afford it at all,” the man said.
“Arghhhhhh, I’ll teach you a lesson old man,” the young man said and stretched out his hands, a black sword appeared in his palm. He thrust forward, stabbing for the man’s eyes.
