SSS Awakening: I Can Class Change at will

Chapter 168: Magma Queen’s Death

Chapter 168: Magma Queen’s Death

The notifications flashed across Selene’s retina, making her smile brightly. But with the situation at hand, she decided to deal with them later.

“Yara! Try hitting only the solid stone parts of their bodies, break through their obsidian shells first!” Selene shouted advice over the sounds of combat. “Don’t waste arrows targeting the flowing lava portions directly!”

Yara nodded her understanding, immediately adjusting her strategy. She closed one eye to focus her aim, her breathing slowed and her hands steadied as she drew her bow string.

WHOOSH!

The arrow struck true to her intended target, piercing cleanly through the Magma Spirit’s stone rather than getting caught in molten liquid.

The creature shook violently, clearly dazed and disoriented from the penetrating damage. But it recovered quickly, leaping aggressively toward Yara once more while simultaneously exhaling a gout of flame from its mouth.

At the same time, Yara was already nocking her next arrows.

WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

Two more shots struck in succession, both finding gaps in the creature’s damaged rocky armor.

The Magma Spirit’s cohesion finally failed. Its body crumbled and collapsed to the mountain floor, the internal lava spilling out across the volcanic rock surface.

Yara smiled happily, satisfied with her kill before immediately pivoting to engage the remaining two opponents still threatening her position.

The battle continued intensely.

Moon’s lightning crackled with relentless intensity. The Magma Queen roared in pain and fury. And slowly but inexorably, the tide of battle began turning decisively in their favor.

Within ten minutes of the battle erupting across the volcanic summit, all the emerging Magma Spirits had been systematically eliminated. The Magma Queen had been completely unable to witness the slaughter of her remaining offspring, too desperately distracted by Moon’s constant barrage of elemental attacks and his perpetually shifting combat position to spare attention for anything else.

Moon’s observant eyes briefly landed on Selene’s group, who were watching his engagement from a safer distance. Selene appeared momentarily distracted by something hidden from the eyes of others—her eyes had that distant, unfocused look that meant she was reading system notifications.

Moon instantly understood that she’d accumulated sufficient experience to reach her class advancement evolution threshold.

Moon returned his full attention to the severely injured beast before him.

Lava kept pouring continuously from multiple wounds across the Magma Queen’s massive frame. Many of the protective obsidian rock plates covering her body had been completely shattered by his elemental assault, exposing vulnerable molten flesh beneath.

’Alright. It’s time to end this fight’

Moon had been deliberately prolonging the fight for two reasons that benefited him greatly.

The first was because he was improving his Elemental Body proficiency through repeated exposure to pure fire attacks. The second reason was because he was gradually wearing down the beast to ensure the killing blow wouldn’t risk damaging the precious core.

The Magma Queen had actually been severely injured and hovering on the brink of death for several minutes already—but Moon had been carefully managing his damage output.

Unfortunately, that proficiency growth had finally plateaued. Moon could feel internally that fire element tempering was no longer a limiting factor for advancement. He needed diverse experience with the other three classical elements—water, earth, and wind—to push his skill mastery higher.

BOOM!

A massive gout of flame and magma erupted directly beneath Moon’s position.

This time, Moon dodged the attack perfectly. The attack did not hurt him in the slightest, he was already accustomed to the pattern of attack the Magma Queen had been deploying in their fight.

Moon used the brief window while the Magma Queen prepared for her next attack to launch his own counter attack.

Concentrated lightning charged through the air, traveling at insane velocities before striking the beast’s exposed chest squarely. Simultaneously, Moon sent a massive wave of water crashing against the Queen’s incoming attack. The attack had barely launched a meter away from the Magma Queen before it was met head on by Moon’s attack, creating an enormous cloud of hissing steam that billowed across the battlefield.

After that, Moon channeled another lightning strike directly through that conductive steam cloud, using the water vapor as a medium to spread his attack across a wider area and deal additional accumulating injury to the beast.

Although steam wasn’t an ideal electrical conductor compared to pure water or metal, it conducted electricity nonetheless and that small advantage was exactly what Moon needed at the moment.

Within approximately one minute of his relentless attacks, which Moon exploited every opening, the Magma Queen finally succumbed completely to her catastrophic injuries that had slowly built up during their fight.

Her massive rocky body collapsed with earth-shaking impact, molten lava flowing freely from her destroyed form and spreading across the mountain floor in glowing, crimson rivers. The entire volcanic peak seemed to tremble and shake at the death of its elemental guardian, as if Tagul Mountain itself was expressing pain at her demise.

As the dead body finished collapsing, the brilliant glowing orb that had been embedded within her chest cavity began rolling free from the cooling remains.

Moon’s eyes immediately widened with alarm as it began accelerating sharply.

“Oh shit!” Moon couldn’t help but curse.
