Chapter 96: Afraid of Snakes

Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Afraid of Snakes

But the kitten’s meows had a completely different meaning to Lin Jingjing.

[Human, isn’t my chest nice to nuzzle?]

Lin Jingjing couldn’t help but chuckle. This little cat was hilarious.

Feng He stroked the kitten again and again, even holding it in his arms as he slept.

"MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW—"

[Human, you’re too clingy. I don’t like you anymore.]

The kitten meowed while struggling constantly.

Watching this scene, Lin Jingjing couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Her laughter drew the attention of both the person and the cat. Feng He had a puzzled look on his face.

The kitten, however, just looked at Lin Jingjing and meowed.

[Master, don’t laugh at me.]

"Alright, alright, I won’t laugh." She agreed, but watching the two of them, she still couldn’t hold back her laughter in the end.

The kitten’s fur stood straight up. It rushed over and started batting its paws against Lin Jingjing’s body again and again.

Lin Jingjing raised her hand and stroked the kitten’s head, comforting it. "There, there. Time to sleep."

And just like that, peace returned to the dorm. The kitten curled up next to Lin Jingjing and fell asleep.

The other members assigned to the squad had already begun a new round of training. Only the five of them were left with nothing to do.

Captain Li couldn’t stand seeing people idle. He immediately assigned the five of them a series of chores: feeding the pigs, chickens, and ducks, watering the vegetables, and so on.

Carrying buckets of pig feed into the pigsty again, the group was instantly overwhelmed by the stench. One after another, they started to dry heave.

The robots supposedly cleaned the pigsty spotless every day, and there wasn’t any manure on the pigs themselves. So why did it still stink so badly?

Shi Feng was the first to break. He immediately dropped his bucket, rushed out, and started dry heaving by the side.

Where there’s one, there’s a second. Gu Kaiwen dashed out too.

"Fuck, it stinks so bad," Gu Kaiwen yelled, immediately doubling over to dry heave as well.

"Are the robots slacking off or something? Why hasn’t this stench been dealt with?" Shi Feng wiped his mouth with his sleeve, his face full of anger.

The three people still inside walked out, now fully kitted out with gas masks.

"Pathetic," Mo Xuan said coolly, looking at the two of them. "You had gas masks and you didn’t wear them."

Fuck!

’Who knew those three would put on gas masks behind our backs!’

Shi Feng and Gu Kaiwen roughly snatched the gas masks Lin Jingjing handed them and put them on.

With the gas masks blocking the stench, the three of them were able to finish the task of feeding the pigs smoothly.

Before leaving, Lin Jingjing noticed the air purifier was off and fell silent.

Shi Feng saw it too. He stared at the turned-off air purifier and also fell silent.

Finally, the two of them cursed in unison. Lin Jingjing reached out and flipped the switch on.

In an instant, the pigsty, which had been filled only with the sounds of pigs eating, was now filled with a low hum.

The noise wasn’t very loud, so it didn’t stop the pigs from eating their fill and going to sleep.

"Let’s go, time to feed the iron roosters!" Gu Kaiwen called to the two inside, taking off his gas mask.

They spent the entire morning feeding pigs, chickens, and ducks. In the afternoon, they had to water the greenhouses.

By evening, they were finally free. Everyone went off to do their own thing.

Outside the Mecha Manufacturing Room, Lin Jingjing summoned the animals from her Spiritual World. She looked at them and, overjoyed, began to pet them.

The door to the Mecha Manufacturing Room was open, and the two people inside saw the whole scene clearly.

Gu Kaiwen immediately dropped what he was doing and ran out. His eyes were wide with disbelief as he asked, "How did they get out?"

"And what is this Skill of yours? You can summon so many animals!"

Shi Feng came out too. As he looked at the animals, his gaze fell upon the snake, and he let out a loud scream.

Shi Feng was so scared he nearly jumped out of his skin. He reacted quickly, leaping directly onto Gu Kaiwen’s back.

Gu Kaiwen felt a sudden weight on his back. He turned his head and saw Shi Feng clinging to him.

His baby face was filled with terror, his eyes were red, and tears were welling up.

It was obvious he was terrified.

Gu Kaiwen was speechless, but he still raised his hands to support Shi Feng and keep him from falling off his back.

His piercing scream drew the gazes of all the animals.

Lin Jingjing looked over and saw Shi Feng already on Gu Kaiwen’s back. She was still wondering what was happening—

—when she heard a snake hissing as it flicked its tongue. Then Lin Jingjing understood. ’Ah, so it’s the snake.’

Lin Jingjing crouched down and called to the snake, "Little snake, come here."

The small, emerald-green snake slithered up to Lin Jingjing, its shiny black eyes watching her as it flicked its tongue.

HISSSSS—

[Master, what can I do for you?]

"I need you to go back to the Spiritual World for a bit. My friend is afraid of you," Lin Jingjing explained.

HISSSSS—

[What! What! I just got out and I have to go back already?!]

Even though the little green snake was an animal, Lin Jingjing could somehow see the shock on its face as she heard its words.

"Be good. I’ll let you out again next time," Lin Jingjing said, raising a hand to pat its head. Seeing this, Shi Feng’s eyes grew even wider. His mouth opened and closed a few times before he snapped it shut.

’She’s amazing. She actually dares to touch a snake.’

Soon, the little green snake was sent back, and Shi Feng finally let out a sigh of relief and climbed down from Gu Kaiwen’s back.

His feet touched the ground, but his legs were like jelly. He had to lean on Gu Kaiwen to stay upright.

The other animals stood frozen in place, not daring to move, afraid their master would send them back too.

Xiao Lü had been sent back just because that person was afraid, despite having done nothing. The other animals certainly didn’t want the same fate.

"Look, these are the animals from my Spiritual World!" Lin Jingjing stood up, pointing at the animals and explaining with a smile. "I’m going to be the Animal King!"

As she spoke, Lin Jingjing beckoned with her hand, and all the animals swarmed over to nuzzle against her.

Gu Kaiwen stared at the animals. Creatures he had only ever seen in a zoo were now standing right in front of him. He was thrilled.

He completely forgot about Shi Feng, immediately walking over, crouching down, and starting to pet the lion.

After Shi Feng calmed down, he finally asked, "So you get a Spiritual World if your Spiritual Power Level is high?"

"Right," Lin Jingjing replied, but then she thought about it and realized something was wrong. She was Grade F, but she had one too. "But I’m Grade F, so how do I have one?"

Now both of them were silent. They really didn’t know how to explain that.

After a long moment, Shi Feng finally said, "Maybe you’re just special."

"Yeah, you’re just special," Gu Kaiwen chimed in.

Saying that, the two of them ignored the question and went back to petting the lion.

The lion just sat there and let the two of them pet it, not the least bit afraid.

"It’s really become a pet," Shi Feng remarked, watching the scene.

"Of course," Lin Jingjing said with a proud little laugh. "I am their master, after all."
