Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 88: A Little Sour

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Little Sour

The professor lectured nonstop, and towards the end, he started calling on people to answer questions.

The moment he started calling on people, everyone sat bolt upright, their heads bowed as they stared at their notebooks.

They were terrified the professor on the stage would call on them, and even Lin Jingjing and her friends were no exception.

No matter how much time had passed, the fear of being called on by the teacher was practically etched into everyone’s DNA.

The professor pushed up the reading glasses perched on his nose, scanned the students below, then pointed a finger and called out the name of Gu Kaiwen, who was sound asleep in the corner.

Mo Xuan turned to look and saw the guy had fallen asleep against the wall. ’No wonder the professor called on him.’

He reached out, nudged him, and whispered, "Get up. The professor wants you to answer a question."

Still groggy, Gu Kaiwen heard the words and shot to his feet. His eyes weren’t even open yet, but his mouth was the first thing to react.

"I choose D."

The rest of the class was speechless.

Impressive.

The professor, exasperated by his antics, said, "Gu Kaiwen, you’re to copy the question I’m about to ask ten times and hand it in."

Then he added, "By hand."

That snapped Gu Kaiwen wide awake. ’I have to write lines!’

Gu Kaiwen hurriedly pleaded, "I’m sorry, Professor! Please give me one more chance."

"Just one more chance."

Seeing Gu Kaiwen’s plea, the professor, not being entirely heartless, relented. "Fine. Answer the question correctly, and we can forget about it."

He only managed to pass thanks to Mo Xuan feeding him the answer. Sitting back down, he heaved a long sigh of relief.

His gaze then fell on Mo Xuan. He grabbed him by the neck and hissed, "Why didn’t you wake me up properly?"

Mo Xuan, caught by the neck, felt completely innocent. He *had* warned him, but the guy was sleeping like a log. ’And he’s blaming me for it!’

Soon, the bell rang, signaling the end of the evening’s class.

Everyone got up, gathered their notebooks and pens, and slowly filed out of the classroom.

The five of them walked across the training grounds after coming downstairs. Shi Feng rubbed his stomach, which was starting to feel empty. "I’m starving. You guys?"

"Same here."

The five of them exchanged a look and decided to go hunt for some food.

When they got to the cafeteria, a few of the food stalls were still open. The group went inside, each ordered a bowl of noodles, and sat down to wait.

They were the only ones at the noodle stall, so the owner served their orders quickly.

They were about halfway through their meal when two people walked in. They went up to the owner and also ordered two bowls of noodles.

The pair chose a secluded spot to sit, and at first, no one in the group paid them any mind.

That is, until the group heard a strange animal noise.

The sound was vaguely familiar to Lin Jingjing. She glanced over and saw that one of the two was cradling a completely white-furred animal.

Lin Jingjing couldn’t get a clear look at it, because the moment the animal made a sound, the person holding it frantically tried to cover it with their jacket.

Though she was curious, Lin Jingjing quickly looked away.

The two people in the corner had already managed to cover the pure-white animal with a jacket.

"What are you looking at?" Shi Feng asked, glancing at her. "Want the chili oil?"

"Yeah, these noodles are a little bland," Lin Jingjing said, playing along.

The other three remained silent, but they also sensed something was off. Feng He peeked over out of the corner of her eye and was startled when she recognized one of them. ’We’ve seen those two before.’

After listening carefully to their voices, Feng He was sure of it. They had definitely heard them before.

She remembered it so clearly because they had woken her up that one time.

Feng He discreetly signed to the others.

Feng He: [These are the two who woke us up under the big tree.]

The others watched her sign, surprised. If it was really those two from under the tree...

That would mean...

’Then... the animal that person is holding must be the hidden mutant beast?’

Hearing the strange sound again, all five of them grew curious about the mutant beast.

’Weren’t they supposed to hand it over? Why didn’t they?’

’And they’ve managed to raise it this long without getting caught. Now they’re bold enough to just carry it around openly.’

’Aren’t they afraid of the punishment?’

After finishing their noodles, the five of them left in a hurry, only daring to discuss the matter in hushed tones once they were outside the cafeteria.

"Do those two have a death wish?" Feng He asked.

"I guess they’re not afraid anymore," Mo Xuan chimed in. "They’re already carrying it around in the open. What’s left to fear?"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk," Shi Feng clicked his tongue, saying nothing else.

"That person probably couldn’t bear to part with it," Lin Jingjing said, carefully recalling the conversation from that day. "The mutant beast hatched from an egg."

"And that egg was a gift from his late mother. The sentimental value is obvious."

"Still, keeping a mutant beast here in the First Corps... Isn’t that too dangerous?" Gu Kaiwen asked, rubbing his cheek.

No one could answer that, because none of them knew whether this particular mutant beast was dangerous or not.

"Whatever. Let’s just pretend we didn’t see anything," Lin Jingjing said. She didn’t want to be a busybody; reporting it wouldn’t do anyone any good.

Once back at their dorms, they grabbed their toiletries, dashed to the bathhouse for a quick shower, and then rushed back to their rooms to sleep.

’Time for sleep!’

’Finally, a chance to rest after such a long day.’

The following days fell into a monotonous routine, which included being spectated by commanders from the various corps while they cooked.

These commanders were no longer content with the standard mess hall fare. Not after Lin Jingjing had a moment of weakness and cooked a special meal just for them.

Once they realized the vast difference between the regular food and a private meal, they started asking the group to cook for them from time to time.

However, the five of them weren’t willing to cook just for the asking. But these commanders weren’t lacking for money; the moment the group showed any reluctance, they would immediately offer to pay.

They offered tens of thousands at a time. In just over a month, the five of them had made a small fortune.

Now they had no worries about money at all.

Today, they were once again cooking a private meal. After glancing at the commander’s request, Lin Jingjing called the others over to help prepare it.

"The mutant beast tide is almost over, and our training is nearly finished. Doesn’t that mean the inter-corps competition is about to start?" Shi Feng had been counting the days; he was just eager for a break.

"Yep, it’s all wrapping up. Special training ends in one more week," Gu Kaiwen added.

’Almost there!’

’Special training is finally ending!’

’I’m getting excited just thinking about it.’

Just then, Captain Li walked in. Seeing them cooking a private meal again, he knew exactly why.

"Which corps’ commander put you up to this today?" Captain Li asked, walking over for a look.

"Seems like every commander wants a turn."

Hearing this, Captain Li felt a pang of jealousy. They cooked for these commanders every day.

’And he, their own captain, hadn’t gotten to try it even once.’
