Chapter 40: Intensive Training
Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Intensive Training
"Forget it. Let’s not get into it with them." Shi Feng sighed, finally pulling Mo Xuan’s arm. "Let’s head back. This kid needs Feng He to take a look at his head."
"No, Feng He can’t fix him," Mo Xuan said with perfect seriousness. "Feng He’s a surgeon, not a neurologist."
"HAHAHAHA, that’s true," Gu Kaiwen chimed in, laughing.
The red-haired boy realized they were calling him crazy, which only made him angrier.
His crimson eyes stared daggers at them.
The oppressive weight of S-Class spiritual power suddenly bore down on them.
The immense pressure instantly drained the color from their faces, but it wasn’t enough to bring them to their knees.
The three looked up, their dark eyes fixed on him, their bodies radiating an intense killing intent.
The red-haired boy felt the killing intent emanating from them, and his brow furrowed slightly.
’It must be my imagination,’ he told himself.
’How could a bunch of losers like them possibly radiate killing intent?’
The yellow-haired boy, who had been silent all this time, finally spoke. He kept his arms crossed as he sized up the trio.
"You’re still standing through that? Not bad."
As he spoke, he unleashed his own oppressive aura. Under the combined weight, Shi Feng was the first to falter, dropping to one knee.
But compared to the pressure Beisang had unleashed that day, this was nothing more than child’s play.
This pressure felt like a massive, impossibly heavy boulder had been dropped on each of their shoulders, threatening to crush them.
But Mo Xuan and Gu Kaiwen grit their teeth, holding on for dear life, their glares turning vicious.
"Apologize to me," the red-haired boy said, "or you’ll die right here."
’He refused to believe they could still hold out with their lives on the line.’
"Drop... dead!" Gu Kaiwen said, the two words forced from between his clenched teeth.
The pressure was already making it hard for him to breathe, but apologizing was absolutely out of the question.
Hearing this, the red-haired boy intensified the pressure, determined to force an apology from them.
Even when the pressure forced them flat against the ground, the three of them still grit their teeth and refused to yield.
"What are you doing?"
A young man’s voice rang out. It was refined and gentle, though it sounded like he was also a student.
The pair looked at the newcomer and immediately retracted their auras, calling out with immense respect, "Young Master Billy."
The trio on the ground heard this and were left speechless.
They scrambled up from the ground, brushing the dust off and picking up their fallen clothes. The three of them then glanced in the direction of this "Young Master Billy."
He had long, golden hair and was dressed entirely in black. He stood a short distance away, his gaze calmly surveying the area.
"Thanks, man," Gu Kaiwen said to him, and then they left.
The trio didn’t dwell on the little incident.
When you’re weak, anything you do or say can be twisted into a crime.
If they dwelled on it, they would only be hurting themselves.
For the next two days, they spent their daylight hours gathering together to learn about the outside world. When the time came, they would head to the kitchen to cook and then serve food in the cafeteria, becoming the "lunch ladies."
As soon as they took on this role, all five of them found their hands shaking uncontrollably.
The way they shook the food from the ladle, you’d think they’d had Parkinson’s for a decade.
The soldiers watched the pieces of meat fall away, their hearts aching at the sight.
The serving ladles were large, so even after a few chunks of meat were shaken off, the plates were still piled high.
Once their work was done, they’d grab the rice they had set aside for themselves and find a corner to eat.
Two days passed in a flash, and their long-awaited training was about to begin.
They were so excited that night that they stayed up half an hour later than usual.
When the horn blared, everyone straggled out of bed to brush their teeth, wash their faces, change their clothes, and head to the training grounds.
They only had twenty minutes to get ready, so everyone had to be assembled by 7:50.
Most were used to a lax lifestyle and paid the horn little mind.
The first to arrive were our group of five. The horn had sounded at 7:30, and they reached the grounds at 7:45.
Their speed surprised the waiting instructor. ’They’re here this quickly?’
He looked over their uniforms; not a thing was out of place. Everything was neat and tidy.
The instructor was pleased, and his opinion of them improved.
But when he saw the others straggling in behind them, his expression darkened.
They ambled along as if they were out for a stroll. But since there was still time, the instructor managed to hold back his anger.
The people sitting behind the instructor were also growing impatient. At this rate, they expected to fight mutant beasts?
If a mutant beast launched a surprise attack, in their current state, they’d all end up in its stomach.
"Hurry up, hurry up!" the instructor began to shout impatiently.
"You’re out of time! How much longer are you going to dawdle!"
"At this pace, if a mutant beast showed up, you wouldn’t even have to fight! You could just slowly walk right into its mouth!"
After he finished speaking, the instructor raised a gun and fired twice into the air. The two loud BANGS from the blank-firing weapon immediately sent everyone scrambling.
Once everyone was finally in formation.
The young man sitting behind the instructor then spoke, his voice carrying an oppressive weight: "Everyone, assume the push-up position."
His voice was gentle, yet it carried an immense, oppressive pressure.
’Judging by his tone, he must be angry.’
Lin Jingjing and her four companions immediately dropped and got ready.
"He’s already this angry first thing in the morning. Is he going to chew us out?" Feng He worried.
Because the young man sitting in the very center was already furious.
"Probably not..." Lin Jingjing couldn’t say for sure. This was her first time meeting this big shot, so she had no idea what his personality was like.
Someone, not taking it lying down, shouted a question at the young man. "Why should we have to do push-ups?"
"We haven’t done anything wrong!"
"Yeah!"
Many of the recruits were insubordinate, having been pampered at home and school.
They were used to being put on a pedestal, not subjected to this kind of treatment.
"One hundred push-ups," the young man said coolly, looking over the crowd.
"Anyone who doesn’t do them can spend two hours in the reservoir."
The reservoir.
Hearing that word, everyone’s expression changed. They hadn’t expected the punishment to be so severe.
While the others’ faces paled, Lin Jingjing’s group had already begun.
The young man took note of their obedience, then picked up a pen and made some notes on their files.
It was impossible to see what he was writing.
By the time the five had finished their hundred push-ups, most of them were on the verge of collapse from exhaustion.
Lin Jingjing, however, sat on the ground and watched her companions as if nothing had happened.
"You’re really not tired?" Feng He asked, seeing her.
Looking closer, he realized Lin Jingjing hadn’t even broken a sweat.
’Is her stamina really that incredible?’
"Not tired," Lin Jingjing said with a shake of her head. To her, it had been a piece of cake.
The young man saw them chatting quietly, as did the instructor beside him.
The instructor then remarked, "These five are pretty obedient."
"It’s just a shame their spiritual power is so low." His voice was filled with regret.
