Chapter 121: Entering the Second Round
Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Entering the Second Round
"You could always jump in and fight them," Mo Xuan said flatly, pushing him away with his arm.
"Nah, forget it. I’d just ruin the integrity of the competition if I joined," Gu Kaiwen said with zero humility. "After all, I’m incredibly strong." He flexed an arm as he spoke, showing off his powerful muscles.
Mo Xuan couldn’t help but roll his eyes at the sight.
The guy had been doing non-stop push-ups during his night watch shifts lately, busting out thousands at a time.
In just a few short days, Gu Kaiwen had packed on a lot more muscle.
Perhaps their job cooking and delivering meals was too cushy. The five of them had nothing better to do, so they spent their days either digging for medicinal herbs or exploring caves for ore.
They ran into plenty of wild beasts along the way, but they handled every single one.
Watching them navigate the Primitive Forest so effortlessly on the live broadcast, Beisang started to wonder if the location they had chosen was too easy.
Otherwise, why would these people be moving about so freely, as if it were their own backyard?
"Could you take on five at once?" Shi Feng chimed in.
’One against five...’
’No, I can’t do that.’
Gu Kaiwen shook his head honestly. "Not yet, but I’ll train until I can."
"You’re not just talking big?" Lin Jingjing asked, glancing up at him.
Gu Kaiwen immediately thumped his chest. "When have I, Gu Kaiwen, ever been all talk?"
"You can do it," Feng He said simply, giving him an encouraging fist pump.
The Second Corps and Third Corps were locked in a brutal struggle over the final fragment, and the surrounding jungle had been torn to shreds by their fighting.
"They’re fighting dirty," Shi Feng commented, watching the brawl from beside a tree trunk.
Every blow was meant to be lethal. If you weren’t dead, they’d just keep hitting you until you were.
A Single Pilot Mecha had been knocked to the ground by a punch from God-knows-who, its mechanical body occasionally sputtering sparks. Shi Feng’s heart ached watching the black mecha.
"That’s the latest model Single Pilot Mecha! How could they just wreck it like that?" Shi Feng said, pained. He desperately wanted to go over, drag the mecha back, and repair it.
Even if it couldn’t be repaired, its components were still extremely valuable to him.
"Are they short a Single Pilot Mecha?" Lin Jingjing retorted, then immediately answered her own question. "Nope."
"That’s why they could afford to smash it to pieces with a single punch."
"Tsk. Must be nice to be rich." All Gu Kaiwen could see was money going down the drain.
The Second Corps proved to be more skilled. They not only snatched the fragment but also "helped" the Third Corps withdraw from the competition.
The captain of the Second Corps pressed a button on the remote in her hand, then casually tossed it aside. "You’re out," Captain Si Tian said, her voice icy as she looked down on the man she had just defeated.
The Third Corps’ captain, Shi An, clutched his chest. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, and he looked utterly defeated.
’To think I’d lose to a woman,’ he thought, ’and so pathetically, at that.’
"If you’re this weak, you should’ve just stayed home," a guy from the Second Corps piped up. He had blond hair, a grin plastered on his face, and a massive hammer in each hand.
He was tall and brawny, looking every bit as strong as he was.
"Wen Ye, shut up," another girl said, frowning with displeasure.
The girl’s name was Yan Chu, also from the Second Corps.
"Don’t be arrogant in victory—" Yan Chu started, but Wen Ye cut her off, finishing the proverb. "And don’t be discouraged in defeat."
"I know, I know. Can’t I gloat a little? Besides, we really are stronger than them," Wen Ye said with a shrug and a grin.
"Captain!" A girl from the Third Corps rushed over to help Shi An up. She looked up at the victors, her voice filled with righteous anger. "A fight is a fight! Why did you have to be so brutal?"
"You injured our captain!"
"Hah..." Wen Ye let out a cold laugh. "Be glad we didn’t kill him. This is a competition. What did you think this was?"
"If you’re so afraid of getting hurt, why bother competing at all?"
Seeing that a real argument was about to break out, the onlookers rushed over to intervene.
"Alright everyone, fight’s over, right? Time to eat," Lin Jingjing announced as she stepped out, offering them a cheerful smile.
At the sight of Lin Jingjing and her four companions, everyone present fell silent.
Wen Ye put away his giant hammers and rushed toward them with a grin. "What’s on the menu today?"
Mealtime was the highlight of everyone’s day; the food this group made was just that good.
Lin Jingjing took out several meal boxes from her Space Ring and handed them over. "See for yourselves."
Then, she turned to Si Tian with a smile. "Congratulations on advancing."
"Thanks." Si Tian had a cold personality, and her response to Lin Jingjing’s congratulations was just as frosty.
After handing over the meals, the group departed. The next event was starting tomorrow, which meant moving to a new competition site. Time really flew.
At the stroke of midnight, a mechanical voice echoed from the sky, announcing the corps that had advanced to the second round: the First Corps, Second Corps, Fourth Corps, and Sixth Corps.
The five of them were surprised to hear the Sixth Corps mentioned; they hadn’t expected them to be that strong.
The Third Corps was eliminated. The Fifth Corps had been just one fragment short of the five thousand needed and was forced to withdraw.
"I didn’t think those guys from the Sixth Corps actually had it in them," Gu Kaiwen mused, his hands clasped behind his head.
The military starship sent to pick them up was already waiting nearby. They had to board it now and head to a new site for the next round of the competition.
’They really don’t give you a moment to breathe.’
’I wonder where the next competition site will be.’
The five of them boarded the starship, each found a seat, and sat down. The moment they were seated, they closed their eyes and were out like a light.
The audience watching the live broadcast was left speechless at how fast they fell asleep.
Captain Li stared at the blue screen in front of him and took a deep breath. ’These little rascals really don’t give a damn about their public image.’
’This is being broadcast across the entire galaxy!’
"You bunch of little good-for-nothings, stop sleeping! Get up and talk or something!"
"Give the audience something to talk about! Don’t you realize how boring you’ve all been these past few days?"
"Show off a little! This is a golden opportunity for advancement!" Captain Li was beside himself with anxiety. He had to return to the Capital Star after this competition, and then there would be no one to look out for these kids.
Beisang and He Shian certainly wouldn’t look after them. With such low spiritual power levels, who would stand up for them if they got bullied in the future?
The five of them, however, were completely oblivious to Captain Li’s worries. They slept soundly.
They didn’t even stir until a robot woke them, informing them that they had arrived at their destination.
