Chapter 1887: Aquarina Learns Alchemy

Yeah, this life…
I think I’m finally beginning to figure out what I want to do.
“Yeah, yeah, it’s all nice,” Felicia nodded. “However, don’t think that by just saying that you’re going to get easier tests! Also Aquarina, from tomorrow on you’ll start your test as well, so get ready, I am not giving you any time to take breaks!”
“E-Eh? Tomorrow?! So soon?” Aquarina complained. “I thought I was at least getting a week off before that?”
“A week off? That’s a lot of time, you know?” Felicia asked. “A lot of time you could spend doing something productive! And no, mindlessly hunting monsters it not productive at all, so you’ll have to start your test to finally show me that you’re worthy of becoming my apprentice.”
“Ugh… okay,” said Aquarina. “I hope it’s nothing too impossible?”
“Don’t worry, it will be the same test that the rest had,” Felicia said with a confident smirk. “Though, you’ll do it on a different location.”
“Wait, what?” Aquarina was confused. “Where?”
“She isn’t going to clean dust in here?” I wondered.
“Wait, why not?” Celeste asked.
“She should do it in here, master Felicia…” Celica said.
“I understand you’re worried, but Aquarina is strong enough,” Felicia said. “So, Aquarina, you’re going to clean the snow of this entire mountain where my house is using only Alchemy.”
“…Excuse me?” Aquarina tilted her head, without realizing what master just said.
“You heard me right, didn’t you?” Felicia rolled her eyes. “I will not repeat myself. You’re starting tomorrow. And you’ll have a week to do it.”
“…A week?!” Aquarina asked. “Wait, wait a second! Do you understand just how much snow there is in a whole mountain?! And you want me to… to clean it with alchemy? Wait, how do I even do that?!”
“I will show you tomorrow,” Felicia sipped some tea. “What’s wrong? The worst that could happen is that you fail your test and then you can no longer graduate as an Alchemist Apprentice from me, losing all the connections you would gain, which would allow you to join Sylphy in the Magician Academy or the Alchemist Guild… Nothing too important, right?”
“W-What?!” Aquarina panicked again. “I can’t fail the test…”
“A-Ahahah, calm down…” I patted her shoulders as she looked completely defeated over the table. “Master Felicia, this is beyond unreasonable! Why the whole mountain when we only had to clean a floor of the house ourselves?”
“She said she’s strong right? Well, I gave her a challenge fitting of her strength, what’s exactly wrong with what I did? If I give her an easy test then how do you expect to grow from it? Tests have to be modified to adjust to someone’s skill and experience. Especially when you’re learning from me! Don’t worry, if you can actually complete it, you will definitely get stronger.”
“How can I get stronger from just using Alchemy?” Aquarina raised an eyebrow. “That’s not possible, Alchemy is just made to craft stuff…”
“Hah, I guess I didn’t teach you about the basics of Alchemy,” Felicia sighed. “Now, my dear apprentices, can you tell our newbie about them?”
“Ah yes!” Celica nodded. “Alchemy can be divided into three categories!”
“There are actually three branches of Alchemy, the most well-known are the Synthesist, but there are two more,” Celeste said. “There are the Forgers and then the Geomancers too.”
“Master Felicia is all three of them, while we’re still trying to master the other two, we’ve made substantial progress!” I said with a smile.
“Wait, what?! I had no idea there were branches to Alchemy Magic!” Aquarina gasped. “So this entire time, I was just a Synthesist?”
“Hahah, yeah I thought the same thing back then when master Felicia explained to us about them,” I giggled. “There’s Synthesist, Forgers, and Geomancers. All of them are Alchemists.”
“The School of Synthesists is the one that is often taught widely. Most people just teach you the basic spells to get it going and then leave you to develop it on your own. And I can tell you’ve begun to develop your own type of Alchemy, which is quite interesting too, we’ll work into that later,” Master Felicia explained. “Anyway, most people believe that’s all there is to Alchemy. But is that true? No, it’s not!”
She suddenly grabbed a cup of tea, drank all the tea in a single sip, like a dwarf would do with beer, and then licked her lips.
“Do you see this cup, as Synthesist, what do you think you can do with it?” she asked.
“Well… We could change the shape, transform it,” Aquarina said. “Right?”
Yeah she asked the same question to us before, she’s even going to do the same thing with the cup, isn’t she?
Wow, she’s like a script, does she do this with every apprentice?
“Haha, that’s very cute, Aquarina. You’re just like the girls the first time, so naïve! Carefully look what I can do as a Forger first,” Felicia said, focusing on the cup she was holding.
“{Shape Forge}”
FLUOSH!
Magic flowed through the cup, the fundamental materials of the cup itself started to change, transforming into something completely different. From a white cup made of porcelain, it suddenly became…
Yeah, we know about this.
The cup became a knife made of steel.
Nice trick, we can actually do the same now, amazing.
“Wait, how did you…? You turned Porcelain into steel? That’s not even possible with magic…” Aquarina said. “Wait, mom can you even do something like that yourself?”
“Me? Hahaha, yes its possible for me, but that’s because… well, my magic is special,” said Nepheline. “And it’s mostly my high affinity with ores and materials like that… But what Felicia can do is much more different.”
“This is called {Shape Forge}, Aquarina. You use Alchemy Magic to change the molecular composition of an object through the usage of surplus mana. Not everything can become anything though, but this was compatible enough for a low-grade steel shape forging,” Master Felicia once more explained.
