Chapter 1786: Easy Fight
Chapter 1786: Easy Fight
The prince gave a faint smile when he noticed Oleander turn around and face Shara, who had decided to stop hiding herself. He still didn’t understand entirely how she could hide, considering he saw her use no spectral energy in the slightest.
But that was a question for later.
For now, he had an opponent in front of him that he needed to beat.
To him, everything seemed to happen at a speed far slower than it actually did. He saw the world move at a snail’s pace, giving him enough time to react to anything he had noticed.
It was unfortunate that his speed too was at a snail’s pace, but just the ability to start dodging earlier than many expected was an advantage that he couldn’t give up on.
The prince wished he had dropped his current set of powers and taken something new. Because of the necessity back in the war camps, he had kept his new powers. He had thought he would keep them for a long time as well, but now in a life-or-death battle, the powers seemed lacking.
They had no use at all.
’Or do they?’ he wondered.
Maybe there was a chance.
The prince saw the true whip that came for him and stepped to the side. Without Oleander’s threat, he could freely play around with Jema since she was no threat.
He knew about her powers. Her bracelet that could heal her. Her whip that could extend. Her natural ability that allowed her to split into five clones.
The prince saw no other sources of energy, which meant she only had those powers.
Similarly, the prince had seen what Oleander and Shara had as well.
In Shara’s case, she only had her power and a dagger around her ankle. He knew that her spear was no artifact at all, so it could only be a regular weapon.
It was a good choice in his eyes. Any artifact that got into the hand of a Reaper could be rendered useless as they could steal all the power that made it the artifact and destroy it.
But not choosing to bring anything at all in such a fight was also a stupid choice. An artifact was only a weapon after all. It was on the user to protect it or not.
Oleander had two artifacts. He had something around his neck that allowed him the power of teleportation, and his mace that exploded every time it came into contact with something.
Other than that, there was his touch that instantly froze everyone. He kept trying to touch someone with those hands.
The prince was certain that none of those powers could hurt him.
He dodged another flurry of whips, getting closer toward Jema. Each time he stepped forward, however, Jema stepped backward, getting further away from him.
She knew what sort of fighter she was. She was one that overwhelmed the opponent with her many attacks and kept them at bay while slowly whittling them down with her ranged whip attacks.
Sadly for her, those wouldn’t work on him.
The prince dodged another whip attack and swung his blade.
A heavy splash of water sprayed toward Jema. At the distance, it was barely enough to wobble her at all, but the attack wasn’t meant to hurt her. So long as she was disoriented, it was enough for him.
The prince dashed forward with that opportunity, stepping closer toward Jema.
He saw Jema switch bodies, going from the second one on the left to the last one on the right. The whip came down toward him.
He twisted his body at the last second to dodge the attack and swung his sword again. Another spray of water splashed onto the woman, pushing her back a step. The heavy water also caused her to get pushed back.
The prince rushed for her at the same time, arriving before her just as she got her bearings. He stabbed her through the chest, the sword slipping out the back like butter.
He felt the contact. He felt the flesh.
This was the real body.
Jema gasped in shock, her face pale from fear and shock.
The prince twisted his blade, but before he could hurt her, she disappeared to another body. The one before her changed and his sword fell through. Her body was once again just an illusion.
However, it was an illusion with a wound across its chest.
The prince waited for a moment, checking to see what Jema would do with this one. But she simply started attacking. She was far too panicked to be thinking anything at all.
The prince dodged the whip and pushed his arm into the illusion. He took a breath and activated his power.
Spectral Harvesting. The power to consume anything consisting of or created with spectral energy.
This was one of the four powers of a Reaper, one of the main reasons why they were named that. They reaped the spectral energy out of everything.
The illusion was destroyed, and along with that a portion of Jema’s overall energy dropped as well. Keeping it active would’ve likely taken her more energy over the course of the battle, but the prince could always destroy them again and again no matter how much she created those.
The prince looked back at the other two, seeing them get into deeper battle. The spear swings and the mace slams were the only things that he could hear from them.
The prince shook his head and turned toward Jema, a smile coming upon his face.
“How much longer can you handle?” he asked her.
Jema remained quiet. She had nothing to say to him.
“You must’ve thought yourself smart to think you could kill me if you worked together. You thought the girl would be dead by now, didn’t you?” he asked. “Sadly for you, I am quite lucky.”
“Your luck will come to an end today,” Jema grunted.
“We’ll see about that,” the prince said before pausing. “Sorry, only I will be there to see it. Unfortunately, you’ll be long since dead.”
