Chapter 984: Chidori Stream!

At the Arena

Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Sasuke exchanged determined looks as they simultaneously performed the Seal of Confrontation. Although they are close friends, at this moment, facing each other, both shared sentiments to emerge victorious. There were no exchanged pleasantries or cutting remarks; instead, they swiftly assumed their respective fighting stances.

Sasuke, after a final glance at his parents, brother, sister, sister-in-law, and Kakashi-Sensei recognized the expectations mirrored on their faces and quelled any distracting thoughts. His focus homed in on one Uzumaki Naruto, positioned defiantly across from him.

‘Naruto, as the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails, possesses significantly more chakra than me… If the battle extends into a stalemate, I am certain to lose because of my low chakra reserves…’

‘My sole opportunity for victory lies in the initial moments. In the span of the first twenty or thirty seconds, when my Chakra Reserves are not empty, I must secure a swift victory; otherwise, I will definitely be defeated!’

‘Despite the villagers pointing their fingers, Otou-san personally attended my graduation exam. How can I repay him with a defeat? Regardless of the odds, victory must be mine!’

After assessing his current state and taking into consideration Naruto’s performance throughout the day in all his battles, Sasuke quickly formulated a plan for their upcoming confrontation. He was determined to achieve victory in the shortest time possible. The key to success lay in the initial moments of the encounter—whether it would be a swift victory or a regrettable defeat.

“Begin!” With the referee’s declaration marking the commencement of the match, Naruto promptly weaved the hand signs, ‘Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu!’

Bang bang bang!

In an instant, a veil of white smoke enveloped the arena, and within the blink of an eye, hundreds of Shadow Clones materialized from the white smoke. Seizing the opportunity, the original Naruto seamlessly merged with his duplicates, leaving no discernible trace.

Simultaneously grinning, the multitude of clones surged toward Sasuke.

Unfazed and anticipating this tactic, Sasuke swiftly retrieved Shurikens from his Shinobi bag, launching them at Naruto without pause. The number of throws he performed seemed almost impossible to execute from a standard Shinobi Bag—two, four, eight, sixteen, thirty-two, sixty-four, an impressive display of precision and speed.

As Sasuke’s Shinobi bag emptied, a third of Naruto’s Shadow Clones vanished. Observing the effectiveness of Sasuke’s Shurikenjutsu, the onlookers were astonished, raising questions about his strategy. “Is he planning to rely on Shurikenjutsu to handle the Shadow Clones?”

Someone interjected, “No, that shouldn’t be possible… unless he has a method to summon weapons. There’s a limit to the number of Shuriken and Kunai one can hold in their Shinobi Bag; he must have reached his limit!”

Just as this observation was made, Sasuke abruptly halted his Shuriken assault. In a surprising move, he retrieved a lone Kunai and fastened something to its back. He then clenched the Kunai between his teeth and began weaving hand signs.

Monkey → Dragon → Rat → Bird → Ox → Snake → Dog → Tiger → Monkey

As Sasuke deftly weaved the hand signs, individuals with keen eyesight discerned thin metallic wires forming a mesh-like structure on the arena. It became apparent that the Shuriken Sasuke had thrown were connected by these wires, and their other ends were tied to the Kunai clenched between his teeth.

Observing this revelation, a voice in the crowd inquired, “Is Uchiha Sasuke employing the same Jutsu that Uchiha Kiyomi used earlier?”

Dispelling any uncertainties, Sasuke concluded the hand signs, and in an instant, a dazzling display of lightning accompanied by the sound of thousands of birds chirping enveloped his hand—‘Chidori!’

The steel wires, drawn taut by the shurikens and kunai, intersected with precision, creating a meticulously woven net of steel wires that uniformly covered the entire arena.

Holding the kunai anchoring the steel wire in his left hand, and the dazzling light emanating from the Chidori in his right hand, Sasuke stood silently and looked at Naruto with a winning grin, “The one who is going to win, it’s me Naruto!”

As the evening descended, and the ambient light slowly dimmed, the radiant electric glow enveloping Sasuke’s right hand captured the attention of every individual in attendance. Whether it was the three judges, the senior officials and elders of Konoha, the instructors of the Konoha Ninja Academy, the family members of trainees, or the trainees themselves, all eyes were irresistibly drawn to the arena, particularly focused on Uchiha Sasuke.

Many had already deciphered Sasuke’s strategy, and admiration gleamed in the eyes of those who comprehended the intricacies of his plan. The arena had become a focal point of collective attention, with Sasuke’s electrifying display garnering widespread respect.

Unperturbed by the thoughts of onlookers, Sasuke, once the preparations were finalized, acted without hesitation. He pressed his lightning-enveloped hand onto the kunai interconnected by the wires, unleashing the ‘Chidori Stream!’

Chiiirrrrrrppppppppp!

In an instant, the entire arena crackled with lightning. The Chidori emanating from Sasuke’s right hand surged along the kunai and steel wire, rapidly expanding to envelop the entire mesh. The resulting spectacle resembled a power grid, aglow in a dazzling silver light within the blink of an eye.

“Ahh… it’s so bright!”

“What the hell is going on?”

“There’s lightning everywhere, I can’t see clearly at all!”

The unexpected brilliance of the electric light left many spectators on the sidelines in awe. Their vision was temporarily overwhelmed, and they struggled to discern anything clearly until their pupils adjusted to the sudden burst of radiance.

Poof! Poof! Poof! Poof! Poof! Poof! Poof!

Due to the uncontrollable and frenzied lightning on the power grid blanketing the arena, Naruto’s shadow clones exploded into bursts of white smoke and met their demise one after another.

Among the judges

Kakashi widened his eyes in astonishment, “This… this kid!” Even he –– the one who taught Sasuke Chidori –– did not anticipate that Sasuke would devise such a method to counter Naruto’s relentless shadow clones.

It wasn’t just Kakashi; Kuroto too couldn’t help but applaud Sasuke, acknowledging, ‘Uchiha Sasuke’s comprehension of Lightning Release is truly extraordinary. No wonder he can surpass Kakashi in Lightning Release and craft numerous Chidori variations that are not only more effective but also more potent and versatile than the original Chidori.’

While the present Uchiha Sasuke may not employ the multiple Chidori variations crafted during the three-year time skip in the canon, his current strategy of utilizing a power grid for an AOE-type attack is commendable.

Although not identical, it bears similarity to Uchiha Kiyomi’s recent use of the same method combined with a Fire Style Jutsu. Sasuke’s approach proves more effective and Chakra-efficient, despite the distinct objectives both shinobi had in mind for their respective jutsu.

Uchiha Kiyomi employed this jutsu as a distraction to poison Shimizu Mika. In contrast, Uchiha Sasuke orchestrated a comprehensive power grid to obliterate hundreds of Shadow Clones simultaneously. It’s not to suggest that Uchiha Kiyomi is incapable of using the jutsu for an AOE-type attack or that Uchiha Sasuke cannot employ it as a distraction to poison adversaries if he wishes – both are feasible.

However, the crucial point lies in the success of Sasuke’s method, as the majority of Naruto’s Shadow Clones dissipated under this large-scale AOE-type Lightning Release assault.
