Chapter 1037: Agreement?
“I hadn’t intended for them to attack you, their task was to find you… regardless, I am glad that you did not die in their hands…”
Hearing Kimimaro’s words, Sasuke became a bit confused, “What do you mean by that?”
“Killing you was my mission; I do not wish for anyone else to complete it…” answered Kimimaro as he slowly raised both his arms from which sharpened bone blades started to appear while tearing through his flesh.
Noticing the bone blades, Sasuke’s grip on the hilt of his Kusanagi Sword tightened, though Kimimaro’s response did surprise him, and he couldn’t help but chuckle, “Is that so…? It seems you haven’t forgotten the agreement we made back then…”
“Agreement?” muttered Kimimaro in confusion. He couldn’t understand what Uchiha Sasuke was talking about. Did they ever make such an agreement?
“Yes… the last time we fought, we made an agreement, don’t you remember? Although we agreed upon three years, and it’s been six years since then, it doesn’t matter…” explained Sasuke, helping Kimimaro recall the details of the agreement they made.
“Whatever…” shrugged Kimimaro. He couldn’t care less about any agreement, what’s important to him is the current mission of assassinating Uchiha Sasuke.
“You–!” Sasuke was annoyed, then smiled coldly as he activated his Sharingan and spoke, “Forget it… Agreement or not, defeating you is something that has to be done either way… if you want to fight, then fight, I am not afraid!”
Looking at Sasuke’s Sharingan, Kimimaro mumbled, ‘It’s the three tomoe? I see… it has evolved in the past few years…’ The last time they fought, Sasuke had just awakened the Sharingan in the middle of the battle so he couldn’t display much of its power. Kimimaro hopes to see its power in order to understand Orochimaru’s obsession with it.
Seeing Sasuke’s intention to fight Kimimaro, Naruto whispered to him, “Sasuke, I have a bad feeling about this… Even Nine-tail is telling me that this guy is very strong, moreover, there are three more people around who are as strong as him if not stronger than him… Should we really fight them?”Mika also added, “Sasuke-kun, think clearly… do we really want to fight them? We already have the Scroll that we needed so there’s no need to confront them, moreover, didn’t you want to corner Deidara of Iwagakure and interrogate him?”
Hearing Naruto and Mika’s response, Sasuke hesitated. Personally, he does want to fight Kimimaro, however, questioning Deidara is far more important to him as he needs to find a way to extract intelligence about Amatsukami’s Homusubi from him.
As Sasuke found himself in a dilemma, suddenly, their bodies began to shiver in the cold, and their breath became white with each exhale.
Naruto rubbed his hands vigorously and asked with clattering teeth, “Why…? Why did it get so cold suddenly?”
Compared to Naruto, Mika–whose legs below thighs, arms, and stomach were unclothed–felt worse, “It’s almost freezing… this is not natural, must be the result of some Jutsu!”
“It must be the work of other two members of his squad…” muttered Sasuke as he also noticed the vision becoming unclear because of the white mist that was starting to cover the forest.
Everyone is in a three-man squad, so it made sense that the cold and white mist must have something to do with the other two members of Kimimaro’s squad. Though Sasuke wasn’t sure about the third person that Naruto mentioned.
At this time, Kimimaro instructed the two members of his squad, “Haku, Guren… the two of you deal with Uzumaki Naruto and Shimizu Mika, leave Uchiha Sasuke to me…” started approaching Uchiha Sasuke step by step.
“Alright!” “Understood…” There were two distinct acknowledgments from the cover of Mist after which the cover of Mist thickened and suddenly Sasuke noticed that he could no longer see Naruto and Mika who were standing just around him a moment ago.
“Naruto?! Mika?!” Sasuke called out for his squad mates but received no response. ‘Damn it!’ He gritted his teeth and wanted to find them, but unfortunately for him, he couldn’t spare any attention to Naruto and Mika since Kimimaro was almost on to him!
…
At a distance
“To think Naruto-kun was able to notice me? Was that because of Uzumaki Clan’s Jutsu or was that because of Nine-tail’s power?” muttered Orochimaru with a thoughtful expression.
Orochimaru knows of the special sensory Jutsu unique to the members of the Uzumaki Clan, therefore, he had to be curious if Naruto used that sensory Jutsu.
Different from the previous nine Genins, Kimimaro, Haku, Guren, and the other three ninjas on their way to this location are some of his true subordinates whom he has personally trained and generally relies on. There are also Tenzō and Kabuto, but they aren’t participating in the Chūnin Promotion Exam.
Regardless, Orochimaru was interested to see how Sasuke, Naruto, and Mika would perform against Kimimaro, Haku, and Guren, after all, these three when working together can even kill a Kage without much problem!
‘Uchiha Sasuke, Uzumaki Naruto, and Shimizu Mika… let me see where your true limits are…’ thought Orochimaru as he focused on their battle.
…
Somewhere else in the Forest of Death
As Team Deidara approached closer and closer to the battlefield, they found out that the crackling sound of lightning was getting louder and louder. Heck, it wasn’t just the sound, but the extreme use of Lightning Chakra had affected the air causing the originally clear sky to be slowly covered with dark clouds and lightning strikes on the forest from time to time.
“Deidara-kun… we should probably avoid going there…” suggested Suzumebachi as the Clay bird dodged another lightning strike.
But Deidara didn’t listen causing Kurotsuchi to sigh, “It’s pointless, he won’t listen…” The constant lightning strikes had even made her nervous, but Deidara didn’t seem to care about these lightning strikes at all which made her all the more annoyed since his Clay should be weaker toward the Lightning!
Unlike the two members of his squad, Deidara was more and more curious as he lowered the height of the Clay Bird with an eager expression. He really wanted to get closer to the battlefield and by the way, use this moment to display his art.
Whoosh!
But suddenly, a figure appeared in the clay bird’s trajectory of flight. Quietly standing atop the tallest tree, the figure looked at Deidara and stood in their way.
“It’s the Kunoichi from the squad of Raijin of Amegakure… what was her name? Yes, Samsara!” mumbled Kurotsuchi upon noticing the mask covering the face of the figure standing before them.
Undoubtedly, the person standing in front of Team Deidara is Samsara.
Stroking his chin, Deidara spoke, “Since you are here, then that means one of the people fighting down there should be Raijin of Amegakure… I wonder who the enemy is…”
Samsara answered lightly, “It’s Darui of Kumogakure…”
“Darui and Raijin…? No wonder there’s such extensive use of Lightning Chakra…” muttered Suzumebachi.
“Darui and Raijin, huh?” spoke Deidara with a grin. He suddenly had a very good idea that he was going to try. With that in mind, Deidara controlled the Clay bird to move forward and inserted his hands into his clay-filled Shinobi bag.
But before the Clay Bird could fly forward Samsara hovered into the air and stood in the clay bird’s path causing all three Iwagakure ninjas to stare at her in surprise, ‘A jutsu to fly? Is it a similar Jutsu as the one used by Tsuchikage-sama?’
Deidara spoke to Samsara, “Move out of the way girl, I am not interested in you…”
Samsara responded coldly, “I am sorry… but no one is allowed to interfere in Raijin-sama’s fight, turn back…”
Although she is not completely certain about Raijin’s intention behind fighting Darui of Kumogakure, she knows that he must have some objective, therefore, she wouldn’t allow anyone to interfere.
Deidara chuckled, “It seems I have to deal with you first…” and took out his hand from his Shinobi Bag.
Samsara narrowed her eyes, ‘That’s explosive clay! Can’t allow him to use it…’ Then raised her right hand and released a powerful Shinra Tensei on the Clay Bird.
Boom!
Suddenly, an inexplicable force started to act on the Clay Bird.
Sensing danger, Deidara stopped what he was about to do, and hurriedly instructed Kurotsuchi, and Suzumebachi, “Jump off immediately!”
“Huh? What?” Kurotsuchi and Suzumebachi did not react immediately leaving Deidara with no other choice but to grab both of them and leap off the Clay Bird.
Just as Deidara leaped away from the Clay Bird along with the two members of his squad, it exploded, Boom! and the range of explosion engulfed even Samsara.
Landing atop a tree the three of them stared at the explosion. Kurotsuchi even wondered, “She should be dead, right?”
Suzumebachi had the same thought, “She should be.”
Deidara snorted, “She asked for it!”
Whew!
Suddenly a strong wind blew away the smoke caused by the explosion revealing Samsara still hovering in the air without any signs of injury on her body.
