Chapter 368 - 368: Virian’s revelation
ChatJK4, can you create a spell that will temporarily make me as small as a Fairy?
[Understood Michael. Synthesizing a new spell…]
A new magic theory washed over his head, giving him the exact mana ratio needed to create the [Reduce] spell, which could reduce his size to be as small as a mouse.
As he raised his hand, a magic circle appeared above his head, slowly scanning his entire body before…boop…he turned into the size of a normal finger.
So this is how Fairies see the world.
Now that he saw their village in a smaller size, he could finally appreciate its architecture. The mushrooms all looked gigantic and there were a lot of smaller mushrooms they used as their furniture.
He slowly floated down towards the large house smack dab in the middle of the clearing.
Virian’s name was written right next to the door, so he knew he was in the right house.
Knock knock
He knew she was busy reading books, but he thought that she should know about the Flarecorp army coming towards her.
“Hey! It’s me, Michael. I’m just coming to warn you that some people will try to enter this pocket dimension.”
There was no response.
Michael decided to go for now. The Mushroom King was strong enough to defend against those elite soldiers from Flarecorp anyway. He was just going to leave behind his shadow clone so that he could come here if things got too dicey.
Just as he was about to teleport away, he suddenly heard a CREAK from the door.
He turned around and saw the door open to Virian’s house. But she wasn’t there.
“Hello?” Michael asked.
Seeing as the door was open, he decided to enter her house.
As he went inside, he saw a quaint one-bedroom interior that looked the same as any other house in this world. The living room was on the right, the kitchen was on the left, and the bedroom/library was in front.
It looked like a normal house except for the fact that all the furniture was made out of mushrooms: chairs, tables, and even desks. The walls were ridged just like a mushroom’s undercap and everything was illuminated by these glowing tadpoles that sit perched on top of short pillars.
Virian’s bed was surrounded by tall shelves that housed books and scrolls alike. These shelves were so tall that Michael had to look up, as it had extended far out towards the very top cap of the mushroom house itself.
Near her bed of grass, he saw Virian looking over a scroll at her desk, with a glowing tadpole right next to her.
“Um…”
She was unresponsive for about a minute before she finally rolled the scroll back up and returned it to the shelf.
“Michael. What brings you here? Have you acquainted yourself with the village?” Virian asked.
“Umm…yeah? Everything looked the same as it was when I left?”
“You left?” she asked, genuinely confused.
“I did…a few weeks ago.”
“Huh…I guess I was too engrossed with my reading,” she said, shrugging. “Anyways, it’s good timing that you’re here. I wanted to talk to you about your strange powers, the power to control all eight mana elements: Unity.”
Michael had never heard that word come out of anybody before. This was the first time anyone mentioned the power of Unity besides ChatJK4.
“Do you know what it is?” he asked, enthused at the prospect of finally knowing more about Unity.
“Yes. As a matter of fact, it was what I was researching all this time. The power of Unity is something that your human ancestors once wielded, and it was what made them the apex creatures of this world.”
Unity was widespread among humans? Why was I the only one who was able to wield it then?
Michael guessed that something must have happened back then that made humans lose the ability to wield Unity mana. And the fact that this was the first time he had heard of this fact meant that the truth was probably obscured from humans through the years, either intentionally or unintentionally.
“Why was it lost? Did something happen?”
Virian shrugged, disappointed as well. “The scrolls in my possession do not talk about the reason. It only says that one day, humanity lost their greatest power.”
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the GodForge pieces are all broken up. I seem to remember that a catastrophe happened that caused the destruction of the relic into different pieces.
But of course, this was just conjecture. He would have to do more research to find out the truth.
Virian walked over to Michael, amazed as she observed the way all eight elemental mana surged towards him.
“You are an anomaly in this world. You are a natural maugnetic,” Virian said, with wonder and amazement in her tone.
“Maugnetic? What does that mean?”
“That is the phenomenon in which a person receives the blessing of the GodForge piece!”
Michael’s heart almost skipped a beat as he heard that.
She knew about the GodForge piece?
“Maugnetic?”
“Yes,” Virian nodded. “Back in the ancient era, people with the power of Unity could interact with the GodForge at will. They were not rejected by it. But after they lost this ability, so did the blessings of the GodForge.
But this did not stop humans from trying to get this power back. They have forcefully implemented a GodForge piece into their bodies, even if they risk their own lives.”
Michael’s eyes widened as he realized that this was what people have been doing with their GodForge pieces!
“What do you mean that they’re forcefully implementing into their bodies? Is it through surgery?”
Virian nodded. “That is correct. Through the hands of a skilled healer, GodForge pieces are surgically placed into their hearts to gain its hidden power. Those that are lucky enough to survive this operation are called ‘Maugnetics’.”
Michael remembered how he obtained the GodForge piece in his heart. It was very different from what Virian described.
For him, the GodForge piece forcefully entered inside his body even before he could react.
But it seemed that for others without power over Unity, they would have to undergo surgery to implement a GodForge piece in their bodies.
“As a natural Maugnetic, this means that you will be accepted by a GodForge piece immediately without any problems!”
Virian looked at Michael as if he was a museum art piece, a perfectly preserved relic from the golden age of the past.
“And what happens after people receive a GodForge piece in their bodies? Does something happen?”
The Fairy nodded. “Humans may take months or even years of practice to do this, but they will be able to awaken what is called Aubilities.
These special powers transcend even that of normal magical spells. It will not use mana nor be affected by mana. It can only be affected by other Aubilities from other Maugnetics.”
Michael looked at his own heart, which had partially been replaced by the GodForge piece.
He began to activate his [Unity Gun] on the tip of his fingers. This was what activated the GodForge piece in the first place.
“And there’s something more,” Virian added. “Once you are able to master the GodForge piece within your body…”
As Michael’s finger began to glow with a bright light, a projection of a mechanical, robotic hand slowly appeared on top of him.
