Chapter 516: Breakthrough
Chapter 516: Breakthrough
“Now then, what do we do?” Quinn looked at Almond. “The fifty of us Grim Outlaws are ready, but the rest of the Regalons who are Grim Residents need to continue their lives.”
“We can’t keep them in the Spirit Voiderran Realm while we are in some academy. They won’t be able to progress inside.”
“Let’s leave the event first and contact Levi. We’ll hand the other Grim Residents to them,” Almond said.
Everyone nodded. That was the best course of action.
And so, Golden Void Outlaws suddenly vanished from the leaderboard.
“Huh? Did someone finally kill them?”
“Impossible. They got a perfect build like those top crews. It’s not just possible to truly eliminate them in this event.”
“What happened? Why are they gone?”
Meanwhile, Almond and Lily exited while the others stayed inside the Spirit Voiderran Realm.
Entering a restaurant, the trio ordered food, and then Almond contacted Levi.
[Levi: So you finally exited. I suppose you reached the peak of Grim Outlaws.]
[Lily: Yep. So before we proceed ahead, we wanted to hand over the Regalons who are Grim Residents to you.]
[Levi: Yeah. I’ll act as their paid guide. Don’t worry about it. But more importantly, the academy you are going to has been decided.]
[Almond: Oh?]
[Levi: Yep. Once you break through, which is just an evaluation of your potential, you will be directly redirected to the Grimverse Examinations for your tests. The result from these tests will give you ratings, and depending on your ratings, you will have options to choose the academy.]
[Rudra: You said something like that before. What’s the rating we need to be able to enter the academies owned by Grimlords?]
[Levi: The minimum rating required to enter their academies is X-rank. If you can take X-rank, you will join Paradox Paradise Academy, owned by Grimlord Paradox.]
[Levi: As for the reason why you will join this….haha, Master John escaped from the trouble just four days ago. Now, he is a teacher at Grimlord Paradox’s academy.]
Everyone was startled.
[Almond: So we will be studying under him, eh? That sounds fun.]
[Levi: Cough…well, good luck.]
[Natalia: Why do I feel like you are hiding something?]
[Lily: Indeed. Not just anything, but something important.]
[Levi: How perceptive of you. Haha, it’s a surprise for your future selves. Just make sure you continue to survive.]
[…]
[Levi: Anyway, let’s meet in the forest next to the capital where you are. Hand me over the current Grim Residents. As for the others, I’ll take other Regalons out from Spirit Voiderran Realm when they break through and become Grim Residents.]
[Almond: Alright.]
…
Soon, Almond and Lily arrived deep in the eastern forest. Levi was already there, having teleported this far in a blink.
Almond took out the other Grim Outlaws and the sixty-five Regalons who were Grim Residents.
Levi decided to make a proper contract with the Regalons to make sure things stayed smooth.
The contract was simple.
Levi would act as a general guide for Regalons. In exchange, she would take 10% of their monthly earning, and they would have to complete tasks she gave them without complaints.
She would have to follow the contract without showing bias, so those tasks could be dangerous, but beneficial nonetheless.
After Levi left, Almond and others initiated their breakthroughs without further ado.
There was no difficulty in this breakthrough.
All they had to do was to mentally press the new tab in their status that just appeared when they reached 100% experience as Grim Outlaws.
[ Breakthrough ]
As they pressed it, they vanished.
Each one arrived in a separate space.
[ Beginning potential measurement. ]
And it began.
In the dark space where they floated, a screen appeared before them, showing [ 000 ] in dark gold font.
A second later, the numbers began to roll.
Almond looked at the screen as the number already reached a hundred thousandth.
He pulled the potential chart that Levi had shown before from his memory.
Average Potential: 100 – 1000
Elite Potential: 1001 – 10,000.
Heroic Potential: 10,001 – 100,000.
Legendary Potential: 100,001 – 1,000,000.
Grim Potential: 1,000,001 – ??? (Record: 88.4 million)
Almond looked at the numbers. They were close to breaking one million.
’Grim potential again, it seems.’
A couple of seconds later, it broke past it.
After crossing two million, the numbers started slowing down.
In the end, they stopped at 3.8 million.
[ Your potential rank is Grim. You have successfully maintained your nascent potential rank.]
’Nascent potential rank? Is it referring to the first potential measurement when one becomes Grim Resident?’
[Based on your potential rank, you are given 1,000,000 stat points.]
[As you have maintained or surpassed your nascent potential rank, you are given a Special Reward selection.]
[ Choose one. ]
1 — Grim Tree Nourishment Dew: This will awaken one branch of any of your Grim Trees.
2 — Limited Revival: If you die while you are in a Tier-2 position, you can revive once at the location you designate from your memory. This will expire once you break through to the Tier-3 position.
3 — Grim Wipe: This will restore your Grim Power consumption so far.
Almond blinked.
’Interesting.’
He had to think about this.
According to what Levi told them, there were only very few ways to awaken the branches of Grim Trees.
First, one branch of the existing Grim Trees, and the first branch of the new Grim Tree, would awaken when one breaks through to a higher position.
So Almond would have his second branch of his first Grim Tree awakened alongside the first branch of his new Grim Tree that would soon gain.
But there were only nine tiers of positions. In short, solely based on this, only their first ever Grim Tree’s all nine branches would awaken.
Each Grim Tree had nine branches maximum, and they were the main and strongest source of powers one would have, so awakening branches was very important.
But according to Levi, that was the most difficult part of this path to power.
Because, aside from that first method, the other methods were extremely difficult.
The second method was to empty their Grim Power, which would trigger the Grim Trial that boasted extreme difficulty, which increases as per the number of Grim Trials they pass. Passing the Grim Trial would awaken the branches as a reward.
There were even rare cases where those who had performed very well had two of their branches awakened.
But according to Levi, even her master, John Wicked, managed to get double awakening three times only in his eight Grim Trials.
Nine Grim Trees, 81 branches.
In fact, not all Grimlords had all of their branches awakened.
Relying on Grim Trials was dangerous because each next Grim Trial had higher difficulty, and the chances of dying were higher than lower.
In fact, the maximum Grim Trials one could have was ten, and there was a rumour that no one had cleared their tenth Grim Trial.
Or those who did clear their ten Grim Trials never told anyone.
In any case, neither Grim Trials nor breakthroughs could awaken all 81 branches.
So that left the last method, which was volatile and random.
Events rated as Grim Nightmares.
These events were of the highest difficulty, restricted to tiers. Meaning that if there was a Tier-2 Grim Nightmare difficult event, only Grim Students and equivalent could enter.
The appearance of such events was rare, and it depended on luck because Grimverse was vast and filled with territories owned by Grimlords.
Moreover, even if one such event appeared, not all people would enter because there were cases more common than not in which not a single participant would return alive.
So taking everything into consideration, Almond made his choice.
