Chapter 518 - 516: Why, Why Is This Happening?
Chapter 518: Chapter 516: Why, Why Is This Happening?
Aeron held her and said, "With your cultivation, you could have forcibly broken the array to get out, but you didn’t. That just proves my judgment wasn’t wrong. My wife is a truly good person, so I’m willing to trust you."
Meeting his smiling eyes, Nerida’s heart couldn’t help but skip a beat.
"You really... trust me."
’He trusts me that much.’
Taking Aeron’s hand, Nerida said in a low voice, "That’s a Divine Artifact. Aeron, aren’t you afraid I’ll take it and leave? You shouldn’t think so highly of me."
That was a Divine Artifact.
Who wouldn’t want one?
’It’s a good thing it was me. If it had been some sanctimonious hypocrite, Silvanis might have met a very different fate. After all, in the Cultivation World, the strong prey on the weak. To grow more powerful, those kinds of people are capable of anything.’
Aeron squeezed her hand in return.
"You wouldn’t."
Nerida smiled.
"No, I wouldn’t."
She said it with frank honesty.
’Silvanis is his home, with his people. If I’m going to be with him, then his people are my people. I will do my best to protect them, too.’
"I’ve been stuck in Silvanis for over half a year. It’s time I got out and saw what’s going on. I wonder what Madam and the others are doing right now."
Having been in the Upper Realm for so long, it was about time she explored the outside world.
The thought of seeing Madam and the others soon made Nerida break into a smile. "Right, what do you need me to do to open the array here?"
Aeron looked up slightly, smiling as he shook his head. "You don’t have to do anything. I’ll take care of the preparations."
Suddenly, he asked, "Nerida, are you very eager to go home?"
Nerida glanced at him. "Yes. I really want to see Madam and the others."
Aeron reached out, hugged her, and then smiled. "Alright, we’ll go together. I just wonder if Madam and the others will like me."
Nerida said in a low voice, "They will. Aeron, you’re so wonderful. They’re sure to like you."
Aeron nodded slightly.
But his eyes held a resolute look.
’Nerida, as long as it’s what you want... I’m willing to do it for you.’
...
After she and Aeron had confessed their feelings for each other, Nerida went with him for a formal meeting with his parents. The ruler and Queen of Silvanis were a dignified middle-aged couple. They were very kind to her, and Nerida had prepared plenty of gifts for them, providing a generous supply of various Elixir Pills and Spiritual Medicines.
Aeron didn’t mention their plan to leave.
And Nerida didn’t bring it up either.
For the next half a month, Aeron was constantly clinging to Nerida, even more so than before.
The two were as thick as thieves, completely inseparable.
Now that Nerida understood her own heart, she followed its desires. Because of this, she often found herself pinning him down in various places to do the sorts of things adults do.
「That night.」
Nerida was left so exhausted by Aeron that she didn’t want to move. The man beside her held her, blanket and all, his voice hoarse when he spoke.
"Wife, I love you."
"Mm, me too."
"Nerida."
Leaning against her, he couldn’t help but call her name.
"What is it?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to hold you and talk."
Nerida rolled her eyes at him.
"We see each other every day. It’s not like we’re about to be separated. Do you have to be so clingy?"
He chuckled and held her tighter.
"Don’t you like it? My dearest."
Nerida looked helpless.
"I like it, I like it, alright?"
As she spoke, she closed her eyes and fell silent.
Beside her, Aeron gazed at her with a burning intensity.
He didn’t speak, simply leaning in to kiss her on the cheek and pulling her into his arms.
And so the night passed.
The next afternoon, Aeron took her to The Forbidden Land.
The moment she set foot inside, Nerida felt the fluctuation of an unknown power. It was the same power connected to the array of Silvanis.
She had already guessed.
’This must be the exit.’
Thinking of this, she spoke up, "Is this the exit?"
The place Aeron had brought her to was the burial ground for the ancestors of the Silvanis Royal Clan. It was also The Forbidden Land; no one was allowed to enter without permission.
Aeron, standing beside her, nodded gently.
He hummed in affirmation.
"Yes, this is it."
As he spoke, he pointed to a spot not far ahead.
Nerida looked up and saw a circular altar surrounded by several pillars. The floor in the center was carved with ancient patterns and array markings. She could tell at a glance that it was the core of the array.
"This is the core of the array."
Aeron nodded.
"Correct. This is where our ancestor, Iris Ashworth, passed away."
Nerida was curious now.
"How do we activate the array?" A sudden thought made her ask, "By the way, is it dangerous?"
Aeron gave her a look that said, ’Don’t underestimate me.’ "Of course not. I wouldn’t do anything I wasn’t certain about. I still have to go with my wife to meet your family. Don’t worry, it won’t be dangerous. You shouldn’t underestimate me; I’m very capable, you know."
Seeing that he didn’t seem to be lying, Nerida felt relieved. The thought of seeing Madam and the others soon made her quite happy. ’They’ll definitely be shocked when they find out I have a Taoist Companion.’
At that thought, she squeezed Aeron’s hand.
"Yes, we’ll go back together."
He nodded.
"Okay, together."
As he spoke, Aeron had already led her by the hand to the center of the altar, their figures standing within the core of the array.
Nerida looked at him curiously.
"What do we do now?"
Aeron whispered, "Just a moment."
A dagger appeared in his hand. He raised it, sliced open his own palm, and crouched down to press it against the array markings on the floor.
"What are you doing?"
Seeing him harm himself, Nerida grabbed his hand and pulled him to his feet, snatching the dagger away from him.
Aeron just looked at her and smiled.
"Are you worried about me, wife?"
Nerida gripped his hand. "Of course I am! You’re mine, who else would I worry about? Does the array require a blood sacrifice to activate? Use mine, then. Why would you cut yourself?"
Seeing the blood trickling from his palm, Nerida’s heart ached. For people like them, who fought and killed for a living, a small cut on the hand was nothing—even getting stabbed a few times was a minor affair. But now, seeing him suffer even this tiny injury, she felt that no harm should ever come to him.
She wouldn’t allow it.
Aeron looked at her and smiled.
"That’s wonderful. Hearing you say that is all I need."
She looked up.
"You’re acting strange."
"Let me heal your wound."
Just as she spoke, the array markings under their feet suddenly lit up with a soft CLICK.
At the same moment, the ground began to tremble slightly.
Nerida looked down at where they were standing.
"The passage is opening."
Aeron nodded.
"Yes. You can go home now, wife."
He said, reaching out to embrace her.
Nerida glanced at him.
"WE are going home together."
He smiled.
"Yes... we, together."
The moment the words left his lips, he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
