Chapter 509 - 507: I’m Right Here, Where Are You Going?
Chapter 509: Chapter 507: I’m Right Here, Where Are You Going?
Aeron looked up slightly, his gaze fixed on the roaring flames before him, an indescribable expression on his face.
Now, hearing what Nerida said, he couldn’t help but blush. ’It really would be better if she just kept quiet,’ he thought abruptly.
Aeron stood where he was.
He was still holding a cooking spatula behind his back.
Glancing at the woman who had walked up to stand beside him, he came to a decision. ’I absolutely cannot let her know I set the kitchen on fire trying to cook.’
He was the Young Master, for heaven’s sake; he couldn’t afford such a loss of face.
’Father said the way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach, but it seems that advice doesn’t apply to me.’
’It’s fine... I have other ways.’
Just as he was about to hide the spatula behind his back, he felt his hand go empty. The next moment, the spatula was in Nerida’s hand.
She held it, a puzzled look on her face.
"Is this... a cooking spatula? What are you doing with a cooking spatula?"
’My spatula.’
He flexed his empty hand, his expression freezing for a second.
Aeron didn’t say what he was doing with the spatula, changing the subject instead. He turned to look at the woman standing beside him and said in a low voice, "Why are you here?"
Hearing this, Nerida replied, "I just got back and saw flames lighting up the sky over your manor, so I came to check. I thought some of King Reynard’s lackeys were causing trouble for you." As she spoke, her gaze shifted to the spatula in her hand.
As if a thought had occurred to her, she murmured, "You were holding a spatula because you were planning to cook? And then you set the kitchen on fire?"
Aeron: "..."
It would have been better if she hadn’t said anything; now that she had, Aeron felt his face burn with embarrassment. But since she’d already figured it out, there was no point in hiding it anymore.
He said softly, "Yes, I just wanted to eat something different." ’I absolutely cannot admit I was learning to cook for her.’
"So that’s how it is." Nerida glanced at him. "The Young Lord’s Manor has so many people. Did you really need to do it yourself? If you wanted to eat something, you could have just had the servants do it. It looks like you’ve never cooked before."
Aeron turned slightly, his gaze landing on her face. "Are you implying I’m clumsy, wife? Not fit for domestic duties?"
’Domestic duties?’ At his words, Nerida quickly waved her hands and said, "I didn’t say that. Don’t be ridiculous."
She looked at the burning flames and said in a low voice, "Let’s drop it. I think we should put out the fire first. It’s strange... with a fire this big, why is there no commotion at your manor?"
Aeron fell silent.
’To get some time alone with her tonight, he had sent all the guards and servants of the Young Lord’s Manor home in advance. Those who hadn’t gone home had been sent into the city to wander around. In other words, the two of them were the only people in the entire manor right now.’
Of course, he wasn’t about to say that. Aeron glanced at Nerida and said with a perfectly straight face, "I sent them all away. There’s no one else here. I wanted to see if King Reynard’s hidden associates would use this opportunity to show themselves. It proves they’re not fools, at least."
Nerida let out an "Oh."
Aeron raised an eyebrow and asked softly, "What’s that ’oh’ supposed to mean? You don’t believe me?"
Nerida gave a slight nod.
"I believe you."
"This fire can’t be allowed to keep burning," he muttered, taking a charm out of his Storage Ring.
He tossed the charm into the air and, channeling Spiritual Power into his finger, pointed at it. The next moment, with a loud RUMBLE, rain started pouring down.
This was a Rainfall Charm.
Perfect for putting out a fire.
As the rain fell, the raging fire began to die down. Nerida and Aeron were Cultivators, so the rain couldn’t touch them.
The rain was perfectly contained to the grounds of the Young Lord’s Manor. This was an ordinary Rainfall Charm, the kind that creates rain over a small area. If he had used a High-level Rainfall Charm, the entire nation of Silvanis would be getting rain. As you can see, in the Cultivation World, making it rain is quite easy.
Nerida stood beside Aeron, still holding the cooking spatula.
She watched the curtain of rain before them.
The two of them stood there for a while until the fire was extinguished by the rain, leaving only an unpleasant, burnt smell.
Aeron raised his hand and gave a light wave.
The rain stopped.
He looked at the wreckage before him and couldn’t help but sigh. Suddenly, his mood was ruined.
"Agh."
Nerida glanced at the man beside her, assuming he was upset because he hadn’t gotten to eat. She gave him another silent look.
She handed the spatula back to him.
"Here."
Aeron took it.
When he looked back at Nerida, he saw her hands weaving signs as she cast a spell of magic. Instantly, the destroyed kitchen began to restore itself before his very eyes.
Looking at the brand-new space before him, Aeron subconsciously craned his neck to get a better look.
"Whoa, wife, what kind of magic is that? It’s incredible."
Nerida said softly, "The Recovery Technique."
As she spoke, she lowered her hands.
She reached out and took the spatula from his hand again.
"What do you want to eat? I’ll make it for you."
She had often cooked for her own wife in the past, so she was quite adept in the kitchen.
Aeron stood there stunned, watching Nerida walk toward the kitchen door with the spatula. He hurried after her. "Wife, you know how to cook?"
She stopped and glanced back at him.
"I do."
After a brief pause, she added, "You should just call me by my name. It feels awkward when you call me ’wife’."
Aeron said nothing.
’She still doesn’t want to be my wife,’ he thought.
But he still called out to her.
"Nerida."
Her gaze fell on him.
"What do you want to eat?"
Aeron marveled.
’Wh-what... I can even make requests?’
’She’s incredible.’
’This wife of mine can do anything. She has a powerful Cultivation, fair skin, stunning beauty, and she even knows how to cook. She’s exactly the perfect wife I’ve always dreamed of.’
’So with such a perfect wife right in front of me, how could I not fight for her?’
"Anything’s fine," he said in a low voice.
Nerida nodded.
"Alright, got it."
As soon as she finished speaking, her figure vanished on the spot.
When she reappeared, she was holding a rabbit in one hand and a chicken in the other. He heard her say simply, "Wait here."
After saying that, she walked into the kitchen.
Seeing her enter the kitchen, Aeron followed.
What he witnessed next was the birth of a master chef.
She butchered the chicken and the rabbit.
She began to cook.
Her knife skills alone were exceptional.
As for him, there wasn’t even a chance for him to help.
Nerida bustled about the kitchen.
Before long, a fragrant aroma drifted out of the kitchen.
Soon enough, she was placing the finished dishes on the table.
At a glance, it was clear the dishes were perfect in color, aroma, and presentation.
They looked even more delicious than the food made by the palace chefs.
"These dishes smell amazing."
"You’re amazing, wife. I’m completely useless compared to you."
Nerida: "..."
She gestured with her hand.
"Sit down and have a taste."
Though Aeron wanted to feign indifference, his body was far more honest, and he immediately took a seat.
