Chapter 503 - 501: Is It Really You?
Chapter 503: Chapter 501: Is It Really You?
A cold scoff echoed.
The sound was tinged with impatience, yet it was familiar, falling clearly upon his ears.
’That voice... it’s her.’
’It’s that woman.’
’But... am I really just hearing things?’
His muddled mind cleared slightly at that moment. The blood-soaked Young Lord Aeron moved his hand, propping himself up to lift his head. And there, in his line of sight, he truly saw her.
Her figure appeared in the sky, shrouded by the night and wreathed in Demonic Qi. She held a whip in her hand, her body radiating a powerful aura.
Just moments ago, facing King Reynard’s palm strike, Aeron had thought he was going to die.
It was this woman who had appeared and saved him.
In stark contrast to Aeron’s rescue, King Reynard’s mind was just buzzing.
Just a moment before, she had been laughing maniacally, believing everything was under her control. King Reynard had been reveling in her own power, thinking she could easily end his life. But she never expected this nephew of hers to have backup.
’What is that power? That aura is so strong.’
Just moments ago, she had been about to finish him with a single palm strike. But in the next instant, a sudden chill ran through her, and an immense power froze her in place. Before she could even react, her body was sent flying.
The force carried her away, carving a path through the mountains as easily as snapping dry twigs. It left a deep, trench-like clearing in its wake. All the trees in its path were instantly reduced to ash. She, meanwhile, was slammed heavily into a distant mountainside, embedded so deeply she couldn’t pry herself loose.
King Reynard spat out a mouthful of blood.
Her eyes widened as she mumbled to herself.
"No... this is impossible."
"COUGH, COUGH... No... I don’t believe it... How could there be such a powerful Cultivator in Silvanis? It’s fake. It must be fake." Even at this point, she couldn’t believe someone could defeat her so easily. She was supposed to be the strongest Cultivator in Silvanis. Where did this person come from?
Her blood roiled in her chest.
King Reynard spat out more blood.
Nerida merely shot the beaten King Reynard a single, indifferent glance before looking away.
"I’ll deal with you later."
She muttered, turning her head to look at the man lying on the ground.
When Nerida’s gaze fell upon him, her pupils constricted slightly.
She saw Young Lord Aeron lying on the ground, on the brink of death. His hair was a mess, his clothes stained with blood. Despite his wretched state, he stubbornly propped himself up to look at her, his eyes as clean and pure as ever. It made her, a female demon with blood on her hands, feel as if sleeping with such a man was a kind of desecration.
Nerida’s figure flickered, and in an instant, she was standing before him.
She lowered her head slightly to look at him.
In that moment, their eyes met.
Seeing him in such a state, Nerida couldn’t be bothered with embarrassment anymore.
"How are you?"
As she spoke, she hurried forward and knelt beside him. She took out a bottle of Elixir Pills from her Storage Ring and poured one out. She pinched his chin and put the pill directly into his mouth.
Looking at the weakly breathing man before her, a trace of anger she herself didn’t notice flashed in Nerida’s eyes.
She remembered their first meeting. He had been so high and mighty, so noble, like a proud little peacock. How long had it been for him to end up like this? Several of his meridians were severed. ’That must hurt so much.’
His face was pale, and he didn’t speak. Aeron obediently swallowed the Elixir Pill she fed him. Then, he just watched her quietly until he felt himself starting to recover.
"Is it really you?"
His voice was hoarse and dry when he spoke.
A trickle of blood remained at the corner of his lips.
Nerida lowered her head slightly, meeting his eyes. An inexplicable guilt pricked at her. Especially after learning that in Silvanis, it was the men who married into the women’s families; she had gone numb at the realization.
’What I did before is still vivid in my memory, but now isn’t the time to talk about it.’ Thinking this, she said, "Don’t talk for now."
After feeding him the pill, Nerida reached out and pulled him into a half-embrace. She looked at the bottle of Elixir Pills in her hand and said, "Keep this. You can take one a day to help your injuries recover." As she spoke, she pressed the bottle into his hand.
Aeron was held in her half-embrace, his body leaning against hers. The tips of his ears couldn’t help but turn red, and a faint blush crept onto his previously bloodless face. He had the distinct look of a beautiful, tragic, yet resilient young bride.
"I can manage."
His voice was very soft and weak when he spoke.
Seeing him try to push himself up and out of her arms, Nerida grabbed his arm to hold him down. She glanced at him and couldn’t help but say, "You can barely even move. How are you going to manage on your own?"
She added, "Don’t try to be strong."
He lowered his head and said nothing.
But his eyes secretly sized her up.
’She just left last time.’
’So why come and save me now?’
Nerida remained in a half-squat, one arm holding him. She gently raised her other hand, twirled her fingers slightly, and opened her palm. A surge of power gathered in it.
She placed her hand above his head and directly channeled her Cultivation to mend his grievously injured body. Combined with the effects of the Elixir Pill he had taken, after a short while, the wounds on Aeron’s body began to heal. Color returned to his once bloodless face.
Aeron’s face was filled with shock.
He couldn’t help but wonder, ’What level is her Cultivation? To be able to so casually heal my body...’
Nerida glanced at him, only to see the man who had been staring at her quickly lower his head.
Once she was sure he was out of danger, Nerida said, "Alright. You can regulate your breathing and recover your Cultivation on your own now."
"Mm."
Aeron could feel that he had truly survived. He circulated his Cultivation, feeling the Spiritual Energy flow smoothly through his body as his power began to recover.
He was really okay.
Aeron was quite happy, and a slight smile couldn’t help but appear on his face. But as soon as he looked up and saw her face, his expression froze, and the smile vanished.
"Thank you."
Nerida nodded slightly.
"It’s nothing. Just regulate your breathing here."
As her words fell, Aeron belatedly realized that he was still being held in her half-embrace.
Aeron froze for a moment, then hastily got up from her arms. His heart was racing, the tips of his ears were red, and his face was full of unease.
’I swore that I wouldn’t let this woman off the hook the next time I saw her. She’s just a woman. I’m the great Young Master of Silvanis; it’s not like I need her and no one else.’ But seeing her now, the scene of them in the carriage subconsciously flashed through his mind. Those memories were clear and impossible to shake.
He blushed profusely.
’I’m being so undignified.’
He glanced around, stood up, and walked over to a nearby tree to sit and regulate his breathing.
Nerida stood up, her gaze falling on the man meditating.
’This man almost died here tonight.’
’If I hadn’t left him that Bone Whistle a month ago, the man before me would have been killed by that woman.’
At this thought, her eyes turned cold.
