Chapter 222: Zi Is a Little Panicked
This gave Chen Qingdi the confidence to gain the upper hand in their conversation, even to flirt with her.
"You see, how could a refined gentleman like me possibly know the secrets of assassins like you?" Chen Qingdi said with a confident smile.
Zi frowned, her eyes betraying a stubborn resolve. She was displeased by Chen Qingdi’s "refined gentleman" act, yet she couldn’t refute it.
After all, the man before her truly didn’t seem to know the secret they were after.
"Well then, say you’ll be my girlfriend. That would make us family, and I’d consider helping you keep this secret," Chen Qingdi said, a faint smile playing on his lips. He knew he had successfully changed the subject.
Zi was taken aback for a moment, then gave a bitter laugh and let the matter drop.
"You’d have to hand over the secret manuals of Medical God Island for me to even consider it. You know that’s our assassin organization’s greatest secret."
Chen Qingdi shrugged. "Alright, that is a big problem. But if you were willing to be my girlfriend, we could figure out a solution together."
Zi was silent for a moment before nodding. "Fine, I understand. I’ll consider your proposal."
Chen Qingdi smiled, satisfied. He felt he had already won this conversation. However, he didn’t anticipate Zi’s next move.
Zi suddenly clapped her hands. A servant appeared at the door, holding a tray of food and wine. This servant was one of Zi’s subordinates, waiting here for her orders.
"This is the best food and wine on our island. I hope you like it," Zi said with a smile, her tone suddenly softening.
Chen Qingdi smiled back. "Thank you for your hospitality. I look forward to it."
They began to drink and chat. Zi asked many questions about Medical God Island, and Chen Qingdi answered as best he could, though his replies were a mix of truth and lies.
He found that while this female assassin was a bit socially awkward, she had a unique charm.
However, Chen Qingdi hadn’t forgotten his objective. He began to steer the conversation, trying to make Zi believe he genuinely liked her.
He praised her beauty and intelligence, making her laugh. As he did, Zi gradually let her guard down, starting to believe that Chen Qingdi’s feelings for her were real.
After a few rounds of drinks, Zi was already a little drunk. She started revealing some of the deserted island’s secrets to Chen Qingdi, telling him its location, how to get there, and some information about its defense systems.
But just then, Zi suddenly stopped herself mid-sentence. She looked at Chen Qingdi, her gaze hazy and filled with doubt. "Are you being sincere?"
’This is bad,’ Chen Qingdi thought. He knew he couldn’t let her sober up. He immediately interjected, "Of course I am! I genuinely want to be with you. If we’re together, we’re family, right?"
Hearing this, Zi smiled again. "Right, we’re family now."
However, this "family" logic was clearly flimsy.
Chen Qingdi didn’t dare continue this topic. He suggested they send the servant away so they could go drink and chat somewhere else.
The servant left the room, leaving Chen Qingdi and Zi alone. They started drinking more and talking about more things.
However, Zi’s tolerance for alcohol was clearly much lower than Chen Qingdi’s. Once drunk, she began pouring out her innermost secrets and worries to him.
Chen Qingdi used this opportunity to pry more information about the deserted island from her, until finally, Zi passed out completely drunk.
On this desolate island, a brutal war had left behind countless casualties. The Evil God Sect had sent their soldiers, wounded on the battlefield, to this deserted island to fight another group for a legendary "City of Miracles."
Although intense bombardment had wiped out many of their enemies, their own soldiers had been hit by a minefield, suffering horrific injuries.
Zi had sought out Chen Qingdi, who was imprisoned on this deserted island. She knew he was a man of superb medical skill, one who had saved the lives of many wounded people before.
Now, Zi hoped Chen Qingdi would use his medical skills to save these injured soldiers.
"Chen Qingdi, what you need to do is save these injured soldiers," Zi said coldly.
"If I heal these men, will you let me leave this deserted island?" Chen Qingdi asked doubtfully.
"Of course, we’ll let you leave," Zi replied.
"Alright then, I agree to treat these soldiers. But I’ll need five hundred thousand US Dollars as payment," Chen Qingdi stated his demand.
"Five hundred thousand US Dollars? Why don’t you just rob someone?" Zi said furiously.
"If you’re not willing to pay, I can choose to refuse to treat these soldiers," Chen Qingdi said nonchalantly.
"Fine. I agree to give you five hundred thousand US Dollars," Zi said, defeated.
Chen Qingdi got busy, using his medical skills to save one wounded soldier after another. But in reality, he left hidden internal injuries in each of them.
However, as time went on, Chen Qingdi’s demands grew. He asked for more medical equipment, medicine, and commission. Zi started to grow dissatisfied and angry.
"Chen Qingdi, your demands are getting more and more excessive!" Zi said furiously.
"I’m just doing what I must to survive," Chen Qingdi said lightly.
"You’ve already gotten the five hundred thousand US Dollars we promised! You can’t make any more demands!" Zi roared.
"You people from the Evil God Sect don’t keep your word. Why should I believe you?" Chen Qingdi said with contempt.
Zi completely lost her temper. She drew the gun from her waist and aimed it at Chen Qingdi.
"If you dare make one more demand, I’ll kill you!" Zi said coldly.
Chen Qingdi wasn’t afraid of the gun in Zi’s hand. He just smiled calmly.
"I’ve known for a long time that you Evil God Sect people don’t keep your word. I’ve completed my task and treated these soldiers. Now you must fulfill your promise and let me leave this deserted island!"
Enraged by Chen Qingdi’s attitude, Zi pulled the trigger.
However, at that critical moment, a member of the Evil God Sect suddenly appeared behind Zi. He quickly snatched the gun from her hand and pinned her to the ground.
"What are you doing?" Zi asked in terror.
"The leader ordered us to stop attacking Mr. Chen," the member said. "We need his medical skills to save more people."
Zi couldn’t believe her ears. "You bunch of idiots! He’s leading you all by the nose!"
The member ignored Zi’s roaring and turned to apologize to Chen Qingdi. "Dr. Chen, I’m sorry. We won’t bother you again."
